#3: When the Last Film Took Place

“Jurassic World” was essentially a sequel to the original trilogy, taking place several years down the line. It also served as a soft reboot, shifting the focus away from characters like Alan Grant and Ian Malcolm. The story instead centers on Owen Grady, a raptor trainer, and Claire Dearing, the operations manager of Jurassic World. Established on Isla Nublar, this theme park sees John Hammond’s original vision finally come into fruition. Complete with petting zoos, gyrosphere rides, and a Mosasaurus exhibit that would make Shamu blush, everything seems to be running smoothly. Of course, if the previous films taught us anything, it’s that playing God with nature is never a good idea.
#2: Hybrid Dinosaurs
In the first “Jurassic Park,” scientists extracted dino DNA from preserved mosquitoes to create cloned dinosaurs. In “Jurassic World,” Dr. Henry Wu returns to cook up a new hybrid dinosaur. The result: the Indominus rex, which encompasses traces of Tyrannosaurus and raptor DNA, amongst other creatures. The Indominus also possesses abilities such as camouflage and thermal adaptability, which it uses to escape captivity. Clever girl! With this genetically modified predator on the loose, it isn’t long until the park becomes a feeding ground. To make matters worse, the Indominus can communicate with raptors, turning them against park employees. If only there was an even more badass dinosaur that could take the Indominus on... Oh wait!

The climax is easily the best scene in “Jurassic World,” as Claire lets the T-Rex out of its cage. Teaming up with Blue, the only remaining Velociraptor, the Tyrannosaurus manages to feed the Indominus to the Mosasaurus. Fleeing from the island, Claire and Owen hook up, while Claire’s nephews are reunited with their parents. With Isla Nublar abandoned once more, the dinosaurs are left to roam free as the Tyrannosaurus closes things out with an epic roar. The film left several questions open-ended, however. Where did Blue go? What will become of Dr. Wu’s dinosaur embryos? What’ll happen to the dinosaurs left behind? Well, we’re sure life will find a way in “Fallen Kingdom.”
