Top 5 Most Exciting Details in the Ms. Marvel Trailer
VOICE OVER: Rebecca Brayton WRITTEN BY: Andrew Tejada
There's a lot to break down in the "Ms. Marvel" trailer. For this list, we'll be looking at the most exciting details we spotted in the first full preview for this groundbreaking heroine's series. Our countdown includes an iconic costume, Kamala's Circle Q headquarters, a tiny peek at her embiggening potential, and more!

#5: A Tiny Peek At Her Embiggening Potential

In many of Kamala’s Khan’s animated and comic appearances, her powers allow her to do everything from elongate to shrink her body. She’s even been able to shapeshift into other people when the occasion calls for it. But the live-action tv trailer and other promo footage hinted she’d be stepping away from her stretchier roots in favor of a different power set. While it looked like we wouldn’t get to see Ms. Marvel fight like she normally does, there was a moment that gave us hope we’d see a version of her classic abilities. During a tense fight, Kamala creates a large glowing energy fist to try and take an enemy down. The big punch looked on par with other versions of the character who can embiggen their hands on command. This small gigantic fist detail was a great sign. Now more than ever, we’re confident the show can remix aspects of Kamala’s story while still staying true to what originally made the character stand out.

#4: Is Kamala Just Fangirling or Foreshadowing?

One of Kamala Khan’s most defining traits is her absolute obsession with superheroes. And we honestly don’t blame her for losing her cool whenever she comes across one of her favorite Avengers. Since Kamala has a track record for stumbling across other heroes, we wondered if a cute Easter Egg in the preview was actually a hint at her future. At one point in the trailer, Kamala gets made fun of for rocking an Avengers shirt we all wish we had. It depicts three incredibly powerful heroines rocking glasses and promoting learning. Valkyrie, Hope Van Dyne’s Wasp, and Carol Danvers’ Captain Marvel all strike poses on Kamala’s shirt. But maybe they’ll stand next to the young heroine in the future. We already know that Kamala will appear in the live-action “The Marvels” movie alongside Monica Rambeau and Carol Davners. So, what if her shirt is also hinting that she'll meet Wasp and Valkyrie soon too? We’d love it if Kamala got a chance to show up the mean girl in the trailer by hanging out with this trio of heroines for real.

#3: Kamala’s Circle Q Headquarters May Not Last

Every true superhero needs a base where they can make plans and prepare for battle. But since Kamala doesn’t live next to an Avengers facility, she sets up shop in…well, a shop. Typically located in her Jersey city hometown, the Circle Q store has served as a reliable base for the heroine. So, we were a little worried when we saw a huge explosion take place inside of it during the trailer. Because in addition to being a convenient headquarters, a significant event happened inside of the Circle Q in one of Kamala’s earliest tales. A comic story sees her arrive at the store only to see her friend Bruno being held up by an armed robber. She initially tries to interfere by shapeshifting into Captain Marvel. Unfortunately, Kamala gets injured during the altercation and has to turn back to her normal form to heal. This scene gave Kamala’s friend Bruno a chance to learn her identity and deepen their bond. Time will tell if a similar scene will take place in the Circle Q before it blows up in the show.

#2: An Iconic Costume Will Make Its Live-Action Debut

The trailer shows us that Kamala will definitely wear a Captain Marvel costume at some point. Even in her fantasies, she imagines herself going to fight crime and getting accolades while wearing a less fancy version of the Avenger’s classic suit. But we also got to see that Kamala will trade in those threads in favor of a costume inspired by Captain Marvel. In the comics, the teen heroine originally used a burkini for her original costume. When Kamala wanted to upgrade her outfit, she kept the look of her first suit while adding a mask, red scarf and lightning bolt. All those design aspects were incorporated into one of the live-action suits. We cannot wait to see Kamala fight crime while wearing a costume that pays homage to multiple aspects of her identity.

#1:A Radical New Origin For Kamala’s Powers

During the trailer, Kamala discovers a pair of special wrist weapons that grant her a wide range of powers. Based on their appearance and flexible abilities we’re going to guess that these are a set of items known as the Nega-Bands. These powerful bands were worn by several different versions of Captain Marvel over the years. Originally, the cosmic items came from a race of aliens known as the Kree. The Nega-Band history with several Captain Marvels and Kree origins are both fitting for this new take on Kamala’s origins. In many stories, her hero’s journey begins after she’s exposed to a mysterious mist. Kamala gains superpowers from it because she’s an Inhuman, a type of human the Kree race created for their own purposes. The MCU may have avoided her alien origins because the “Inhumans” show was a huge flop. While Kamala’s origins may look different, we have faith she’ll still become the same great heroine we know and love.
