VOICE OVER: Rebecca Brayton WRITTEN BY: Mimi Kenny
These videos drew the ire of Mojo fans. For this list, we'll be looking at the WatchMojo videos with the highest dislike counts on YouTube. Our countdown includes Top 10 Songs That Will Make You Cry, Top 10 Needlessly Sexualized Female Movie Characters, Top 10 National Anthems, and more!

#10: Top 10 Songs That Will Make You Cry

Also in:

Top 20 Broadway Songs That Make Us Ugly Cry

We can’t guarantee that all of these tunes will make every listener tear up, but we still think we picked a good crop. On the list were tearjerkers like "Everybody Hurts," "One Sweet Day," and, at number one, "Tears in Heaven." So, why all the dislikes? It might just be that people were expecting certain songs to show up and were disappointed to learn otherwise. Limiting a list like this to just 10 entries means we have to make some tough sacrifices. However, we later did another version of this list, with tracks like “What a Wonderful World” and “Someone like You.” As long as there’s music, there will be sad songs.

#9: Top 10 Music Genres That Died Out

Also in:

Top 10 Most Disliked YouTube Videos

When we say that a music genre has “died out,” we don’t mean to say it’s disappeared completely. It’s only meant to reflect how something can fade from mainstream popularity, which is what happened with genres like crunk and hair metal. Still, some took umbrage with our phrasing, arguing that many of these genres are still alive and thriving. We don’t mean any disrespect to these genres, as they include artists we love to this day. This list was mainly meant to reflect the shifts in cultural taste. And sometimes, a genre that seems all but dead surges to a comeback. Who’s ready for fourth-wave ska?

#8: Top 10 Anime Opening Theme Songs

Also in:

Top 10 Greatest WWE Entrance Songs Ever

If there’s one word that describes anime fans, it’s passionate. Opening theme songs are what sets apart the good shows from the great ones, and we understand some might be disappointed to not see their favorite opening song on our list. We're proud of the list we put together, with songs from shows like "Cowboy Bebop" and "Attack on Titan," but we know there are more than 10 great anime opening theme songs. That’s why we followed it up with another top 10 list, plus a top 20 list. Still don’t see your favorite one? Cue the sad anime outro music.

#7: Top 10 Family Guy Jokes That Crossed The Line

Also in:

Top 10 Times WatchMojo Got it Wrong in 2021

“Family Guy” is a show that thrives on pushing the boundaries of good taste. But there are more than a few jokes on the animated sitcom that just went too far into edgy territory or were just generally unpleasant. We know that humor is subjective, as evidenced by the response to this list. Many seemed to think we were being overly sensitive, but we don’t think these are jokes you’d want to bring up in polite company. We’ve made plenty of lists speaking positively about “Family Guy,” but this one provoked a special kind of reaction.

#6: Top 10 Insanely Racist Moments In Disney Movies That You Totally Forgot About

If you point out offensive moments in popular media, people are going to raise a fuss, but not necessarily about the moments themselves. We know that many of these Disney movies were made in a “different time,” but it’s hard not to watch some of these scenes and cringe at the lack of sensitivity. As with the “Family Guy” list, some simply claimed we were being too sensitive and that they didn’t see any racism in these films. We still love a lot about these movies, but some elements simply don’t align with modern values.

#5: Top 10 Needlessly Sexualized Female Movie Characters

Also in:

Top 20 Sexiest Characters Of All Time

We’re no prudes, but we found how some of these female characters were depicted to just be a bit on the gratuitous side. Sometimes, it was an outfit that was unnecessarily skimpy or form-fitting. Other times, it was the camera lingering on an actress’ body for far longer than was necessary. While there were some compelling arguments made, such as Princess Leia being sexualized by her captor, Jabba the Hutt, we still think it’s good to discuss objectification in media. We tend to not see male characters depicted with the same kind of ogling potential. Of course, when we reworked the list as a Top 20, we singled out male characters like Jacob Black, Johnny from “The Room,” and about half the cast of “Cats.”

#4: Top 10 National Anthems

Also in:

Top 20 Greatest National Anthems of All Time

There are more than 10 countries, and there are more than 10 great national anthems. When we made this list, we meant to uplift by showcasing national anthems we found particularly beautiful. The comments were generally positive. So, those who had negative feelings about this video likely just downvoted without saying anything. However, there were quite a few people who wished we had put the Russian national anthem at number one. Given that it’s been seven years since this video was first posted, we think it might be time for an update. Sometimes, 10 just isn’t enough.

#3: Top 10 Most Hated Songs

Also in:

Top 100 Broadway Songs of All Time

Some songs become wildly popular for no apparent reason and become agony to hear even a few seconds of. That’s how we feel about the songs on this list, including Rebecca Black’s “Friday” and Crazy Frog’s “Axel F.” But not everyone had the same burning dislike we assumed they did. We didn't necessarily mean to say these songs were all bad, just that they had all attracted some level of derision. A few commentators rightly pointed out some of them were simply overplayed. We could go without hearing “Cotton Eye Joe” ever again, but some people feel otherwise.

#2: Top 10 Worst Singers

Also in:

Top 10 NBA Players of All Time

The actual worst singers are people who know better than to record any songs. So, while we might not nominate Fred Durst or Paris Hilton for any Grammys, we feel this list might’ve been a bit mean in retrospect. There were some good points made in the comments, such as how subjective music is and how it’s not really fair for us to compare rappers and singers. Some also took issue with our inclusion of singers like Britney Spears and Lana Del Rey. It seems we just didn’t hit the right note with this particular video.

#1: Top 10 Most Disliked YouTube Videos

Also in:

Top 10 Most Liked YouTube Videos of All Time

This is our most-disliked video, but it’s not because of the content itself. We didn’t take any controversial stances. We simply listed the most disliked videos on YouTube at the time. However, at the beginning, we said we hoped our video never ended up on a similar list. And our viewers couldn’t resist being cheeky, so they headed straight for the thumbs-down button. Maybe we shouldn’t have said anything, but we have enough of a sense of humor to not be bothered by it. Now, we just hope we don’t get too many dislikes on this video.
