"Dr. Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness" has our minds swimming with possibilities within the MCU and beyond. For this list, we’ll be looking at the most exciting events and characters we might see in this magical sequel. If you aren’t caught up with all the MCU content released before 2022, beware of a multiverse of spoilers ahead. Our countdown includes an MCU debut for Deadpool, a Tony Stark variant, a Captain Carter cameo, and more! What do you want to see most in Dr. Strange’s next movie? Let us know in the comments below.

#10: A Captain Carter Cameo

When eagle-eyed fans were scanning the Doctor Strange 2 poster, they noticed a familiar-looking shield on the bottom right. The color scheme and flag symbol heavily hint that the accessory belongs to Captain Carter. This strong heroine first learned that there was a Multiverse during the last two episodes of “What…If?” Since she also spent some time working with an alternate Strange Supreme, we could easily see her raising her shield to help our Stephen out in his sequel. But we seriously don't mind if the posters' Easter egg is just setting up an opportunity for Peggy Carter actress Hayley Atwell to make a live-action cameo. We could watch the talented actress play the captain all day.

#9: Zombie Dr. Strange

The animated “What if…?” series also gave us a look at zombified variants of characters like Dr. Strange. It was incredibly unsettling to see him use magic to try to get his next helping of brains. Unfortunately for our heroes, there's a chance this creepy character could make another appearance. Near the end of the first official Doctor Strange 2 trailer, we see a pale version of Stephen surrounded by what looks like zombified hands. It’s completely possible that his ghastly appearance might be a side effect of sinister Magic. But if there’s any chance a zombified Strange is here, we hope the heroes dispatch him by taking a lesson out of Thor’s playbook.

#8: The Merc With the Mouth Breaks the Multiverse Wall

What Comes Next After Doctor Strange Multiverse of Madness

Although he’s extremely hard to make out, fans think Deadpool can be seen in the upper left portion of the sequel’s poster. If our collective eyes haven’t deceived us, the merc with the mouth could make his MCU debut in Dr. Strange 2. We would absolutely love to see him make fun of our favorite heroes and villains in live-action. But why should he be limited to just MCU mainstays? If Deadpool learns how to navigate the multiverse, he could make fun of characters in the Fox X-men films, Fantastic Four movies and older Marvel projects. We’ve seen the merc gleefully mess around with time travel once he got the chance. Imagine the comedy gold this merc could mine if he hops across the multiverse.

#7: America Chavez Will Shake Hands with a Spider Person

Also in:

Origins of the Justice Society of America

Traditionally, America Chavez has the power to travel between realities by creating star shaped holes she can traverse through. We’ve gotten a few exhilarating glimpses at her powers in action during trailers. But concept art revealed that we were supposed to meet Miss America during “Spider-Man: No Way Home”. Although her scene with Peter didn’t make it into the film, maybe she can start a friendship with a webehead in this sequel. Maybe Strange will connect Miss America to Spider-Man so they can look out for each other. The writers could remix their original“No Way Home” plans and have her meet a different spider-person. Either way, we feel like Miss America will be by a webhead’s side very soon.

#6: Wanda Fights for Her Children

Top 10 Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch MCU Moments

Wanda Maximoff had to say a tearful goodbye to her children when she gave up her control over Westview’s reality. Although we thought they faded away, the post-credits scene revealed that they might still be alive. So, we think it’s highly likely that Wanda will try to use the multiverse setting to reunite with Billy and Tommy. The official Dr. Strange sequel trailer hinted at this plot point by showing two Scarlet Witches in the Westview house. Although Wanda’s intentions are pure, her allies might try to stop her from bringing her kids across the multiverse. This could be why she’s fighting a powerful figure that’s covered in energy. But we’re certain that Wanda won’t even let her friends stop her from finding her children.

#5: A New Team of Defenders Will Make Their Debut

Also in:

Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness Ending And Post Credit Scene Explained

It appears that we’ll see Dr. Strange trade in his usual wardrobe in favor of a more exciting costume. He wore that red and black outfit we saw in the official trailer while fighting on the Defenders team in the comics. If we’re lucky, Strange’s outfit change means that we’ll see this superhero alliance in the movie. Over the years, the roster has included everyone from Ant-Man to Hulk. And Marvel also made a show with four heroes creating their own self-contained line-up. Since characters like Daredevil have popped up in other MCU properties recently, it would be rewarding to see his team step into the spotlight. But no matter which heroes appear in this alliance, we’re still eager to see Dr. Strange’s defenders team.

#4: Strange’s Fight Against His Evil Self Isn’t the Final Battle

Also in:

Top 10 Most Powerful Versions of Doctor Strange

Our jaws dropped when we saw an evil version of Dr. Strange staring down the hero we know. It seems like the two are destined to face off in a tense battle of sorcerers. While we’ll definitely have fun watching them duel, we’re not completely convinced that Evil Strange is the film’s final big bad. We’d be willing to bet that Dr. Strange’s old nemesis Nightmare is to blame. This sinister Dream Dimension resident can mess with unconscious minds. He’s also worked with the tentacled being Shuma-Gorath before. Not only is a monster with multiple limbs appearing in the sequel, but Strange also mentions being tormented by dreams. The hero’s evil counterpart might not be the last nightmare he has to deal with.

#3: A Tony Stark Variant Flies In

Also in:

Everything We Know So Far About Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness

After getting arrested by an unknown organization, the former Sorcerer Supreme is escorted by a group of robots. Their mechanical beings looked like a combination of Ultron’s design and the typical appearance of an Iron Man drone. Since Tony Stark’s mind helped bring those two kinds of robotic machines to life, maybe we’ll see them walk to the billionaire philanthropist in Dr. Strange’s sequel. This theory comes after a wave of rumors and speculation that Tom Cruise is appearing as Iron Man in the MCU. Although he was once considered to take on the role full time, letting the superstar appear as a variant here would still be incredibly rewarding. We definitely believe Cruise has what it takes to play a believable superhero.

#2: Enter the Illuminati

While we’re still talking about Iron Man, many fans are suspicious that he’ll return as a member of Marvel’s Illuminati. In the comics, he was part of a group formed by influential heroes to help address threats to the superhero community. The Illuminati has been willing to do extreme things like launch Hulk into space to serve their own ends. So, we can definitely picture a multiverse version of the team arresting Strange for tampering with reality. Since the original group had six members, seeing the sorcerer walk up to six chairs in the official trailer set fans into a frenzy. But there is one other piece of evidence that seems to point to the imminent arrival of the Illuminati.

#1: Professor X Introduces the Mutants

Also in:

Professor Marston and the Wonder Women (2017) - Top 5 Facts!

A brief audio clip in the official trailer all but confirms we’ll be seeing Professor X very soon. Not only did the man sound like Patrick Stewart’s Xavier, but he coincidentally appeared after we spotted Deadpool on the poster. Oh, did we also mention that Professor X is one of the founding members of Marvel’s Illuminati? If this mutant leader is in Dr. Strange 2, he could explain why we haven’t seen any X-Men yet. Maybe this Xavier helped hide mutants from the world with his telepathic powers or has been keeping them in a remote place like the dinosaur filled Savage Land. However, Strange’s reckless actions may motivate Professor X and his X-Men to take a more active role in the MCU.

This... aged surprisingly well. Not perfect, but... actually decent.
