The long awaited sequel was originally set to come out May 7, 2021. But due to real world events movie theatres everywhere were shut down and the release date was pushed back to November 5, 2021. Sony and Marvel had to also push back the new Spiderman release date due to sharing it with Doctor Strange. Soon after, Marvel pushed back the release date for Doctor Strange one more time. Now we’re just hoping that the third time will be the charm and we’ll actually get to see the Multiverse Madness in March.

The movie was originally going to be directed by Scott Derrickson, the same director of the first movie. It has been reported that he wanted to go in a horror direction and the studios wanted to go in a different direction, so they amicably parted ways. In April 2020, Sam Raimi was confirmed as the new director. Like the previous director, Raimi got his start in horror films, but he is better known for his work directing the original Spiderman trilogy. Some fans are upset about the loss of Derrickson, but we are excited to see more from the mind that gave us Willem Dafoe as the Green Goblin.

In October 2019, Marvel brought on screenwriter Jade Halley Bartlett to develop the horror-like Doctor Strange script. When Derrickson left the movie, Marvel wanted to reimagine the whole story. To start they got the new director, then they brought on another MCU alum, Michael Waldron, who was the head screenwriter from the show ‘Loki’. Initially the new creative duo was only given a few months to rewrite the script. But the pandemic shut down production and gave the team a chance to spend a whole year working together.

The events of the Multiverse of Madness are supposed to happen sometime after the events of WandaVision and Loki. After Thanos’ snap in 2018, five years passed before the Avengers learned they can travel through time. WandaVision is set just a few weeks after Endgame. The ending of her story and her confirmed connection to the Sorcerer Supreme has led fans to believe that the Multiverse of Madness will happen in the same year as Wandavision. But now that time travel is possible in MCU, who knows if the heroes will be staying in their own time.

Plus the same creative mind behind Loki is behind the Multiverse of Madness, so we hope the film ends up being a continuation of the show's story in some way.

In the first film McAdams played emergency room doctor, Dr. Christine Palmer. She was a long time friend and an on again off again love interest for Stephen Strange. Parker acted as a teether to the human world for Strange as everything around him got more mystical. Since the premiere of the first movie, there has only been MORE magic coming out the woodworks, from Aliens and time travelers, to witches and more sorcerers, so we’re intrigued to see what kind of role the non superhuman doctor can play in this story.

Fans rejoiced when they learned Elizabeth Olsen will be reprising her role as Wanda Maximoff, also now known as the Scarlet Witch. The head of MCU himself has confirmed Wanda’s appearance in Doctor Strange. Throughout the course of the miniseries, the witch realizes her full potential and in our opinion becomes the strongest Avenger. Waldron, the movie's head writer, stated that he worked closely with WandaVision head writer, Jac Schaeffer, in order to respect Wanda’s ongoing story. We’re hoping to see her on the hunt for her missing children, but in reality we’re just happy she’ll be a part of the story at all.

In October 2020 it was announced that Netflix star Xochitl Gomez will be joining the MCU as the long awaited LGBTQ+ heroine, America Chavez. But because Marvel is so secretive, we don’t know much about what role she will have in the movie. But we do know about her origins in the comics. Chavez first appeared in comics in 2011 as a heroine with super strength, fast as light speed, and the power to travel between dimensions, amongst other powers. Fans have speculated that the appearance of Miss America could mean Marvel has plans for Young Avengers. We hope that’s true!
#2: Karl Mordo Is Going to Cause Chaos
Chiwetel Ejiofor will reprise his role as Karl Mordo. His character is credited with bringing the broken down Stephen Strange to Kamar-Taj, where he learned to be a sorcerer. At the end of the last movie Mordo felt betrayed by the Ancient Ones magic and set out on a mission to strip the sorcerers of their powers. In a casting announcement, a short synopsis was released that stated “an old friend-turned-enemy” was back to serve as an antagonist towards strange. Though that does not confirm Mordo is that friend, we can only assume.

Benedict Wong played the role of one of the most important Sorcerers in the Masters of the Mystic Arts. Since the first movie, he has appeared as Wong in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. And who can forget his Abomination of a fight in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings? However, the Wong appearance that might set up “Multiverse of Madness” the most is in “Spider-Man: No Way Home.” Do you think there’s a reality in the Multiverse where Doctor Strange listened to Wong and didn’t cast that spell? Hmmm… In any case, we are excited to get to see more from the Sorcerer!
