#20: Storm Strikes Back
“X-Men” (2000) When the X-Men travel to the Statue of Liberty to stop Magneto and his evil followers, Toad gets the jump on the heroes. He’s briefly able to divide and overwhelm multiple mutants with his disgusting set of skills. During the battle, Toad appears to take out Storm permanently by knocking her down an elevator shaft. But when she makes a glorious return, the evil mutant can’t help but wonder why out loud. Storm proceeds to absolutely wreck Toad with her weather-based abilities. While we loved watching her upset her enemy, we wish she would’ve come up with a cooler comeback to end this great scene.
#19: Jafar Just Can’t Believe Aladdin Made It
“Aladdin” (1992) The sinister Jafar wastes no time using the Genie’s magic to become ridiculously powerful. He soon decides to use his vast abilities to put an end to the heroic Aladdin. Although the hero is sent flying, he manages to survive the unwanted trip and decides to steal the lamp from Jafar. But right before Aladdin can get his hands on the magical item, he’s spotted by an annoyed villain. Jafar’s memorable reaction leads to a tense and thrilling fight scene. And despite the villain’s vast rage and power, he still gets defeated by Aladdin before the credits roll.

“The Tick” (2016-19) Throughout its run, “The Tick” had a lot of fun mocking superhero and action genre cliches. One of their best jabs at a familiar trope came when the blue blunder came face-to-face with Ms. Lint. Once she gets an opening, she blasts the Tick with lightning. But not only does he withstand the electric assault, but he has an amazing response prepared when she asks why he’s still standing. The Tick’s clever retort and incredible endurance in this scene made us huge fans of this blue hero. We were happy to know that villains would have a hard time trying to squash him.

“Smallville” (2001-11) A shapeshifter named Tina was a huge problem for the young kryptonian Clark Kent. She could hide in plain sight, made people let their guard down and was incredibly strong too. After giving Clark kryptonite, she shapeshifted so she’d look exactly like him. But the real Kryptonian was able to get out of his sticky situation and settle the score with his doppleganger. Although Clark offers forgiveness, Tina is overwhelmed with rage and tries to take him down with one attack. Unfortunately for her, he dodges the desperate strike and she ends up losing her life. Tina’s rage at Clark’s survival ironically cost her everything.

"Pineapple Express" (2008) Red was a good name for this movie's most colorful character for multiple reasons. After asking his enemies to just take their shoes off in his house and getting too chatty, he gets shot. While his foes start fighting over this choice, Red wakes up again to complain about where he was wounded. He seems more annoyed than concerned for his life. And Red’s foes look stunned that the wounded man is still alive. Hilariously, he shames his enemies for shooting him after he invited them in...before he gets shot again. Red's lack of concern pays off hugely later on when he miraculously returns to defeat one of the gangsters at the end of the film.

“Batman Forever” (1995) Two-Face planned to burn the bat in such a dumb and needlessly complicated way that it accidentally became a bit of comedy genius. After drawing Batman out, the villain jumps into an underground section of Gotham. When the dark knight tries to follow, random goons force him to fall in a pit that Two-Face fills with gas. The villain immediately sets off an explosion meant to take Batman out. But the hero's fireproof cape keeps him safe. When Batman emerges from the flames unscathed, Two-Face nearly loses his mind. If the villain kept things a little bit simpler he or his ally, The Riddler, might have actually taken down the Dark Knight for good.

“Samurai Jack” (2001-17) We honestly lost count of how many times the vicious Aku attempted to slay Samurai Jack. No matter what the demon tried, he just couldn't seem to put his mortal enemy down for the count. Although Aku usually screams something at Jack during battle, one of the villain’s most quotable lines happened during his downtime. As he uses magic to observe the samurai from afar, the demon becomes more and more frustrated. Aku’s rage boils over until he finally can’t contain himself any longer. The late and legendary voice actor Mako’s delivery as the demon is so perfect and entertaining that it almost made us root for the villain to succeed.

“GoldenEye“ (1995) Near the beginning of “Goldeneye”, we thought we saw yet another Sean Bean character perish when Alec appears to get assassinated during an MI6 mission. But he survives and returns as a full villain. Alec tries to take out his old friend Bond multiple times throughout the film. While the villain tries not to get discouraged, even he has a breaking point. Bond manages to escape being absolutely wrecked by a train at the last second. When Alec sees his nemesis is still kicking, he seems more annoyed than angry. Sean Bean’s fantastic and dry delivery helped make his villain stand out amongst Bond’s stacked rogues gallery.

“The Simpsons” (1989-) Recurring “Simpsons” character Frankie the Squealer often gets in trouble with his mafia allies for doing just what his name suggests. In his first “Treehouse of Horror” appearance, his associates are prepared to permanently remove him from the organization. But unbeknownst to them, Homer actually slayed the Grim Reaper. This meant that Frankie and many others couldn’t die. When his mafia allies attempt to take him out, they’re rightfully confused. Frankie’s in-character reaction and the absurdity of the scene made it one of the funniest takes on this cliché. Hopefully, he learned his immortality is temporary before the next time he squealed.

“Mission: Impossible – Fallout” (2018) If IMF agent Ethan Hunt doesn't stop August Walker, multiple nuclear bombs will go off and irradiate a large portion of earth’s drinking water. The high stakes make the hero desperate to do anything to stop the villain. When it looks like Walker might get away in a helicopter, Ethan crashes his own aerial vehicle into the villain’s. The two manage to survive a horrific crash and fall off the side of a cliff. Once the two are face to face, Walker can’t hold back his frustration. Ironically, it turns out that he spoke too soon. Ethan goes on to survive a couple more deadly scrapes before saving the world.

"snatch." (2000) Once you hear Bullet Tooth Tony's tough nickname, you’ll instantly wonder where he got it from. Fortunately, Guy Ritchie doesn’t take too long to reveal where. Shortly after Bullet Tooth Tony’s name is dropped, we cut to a flashback scene where Tony endures six bullets. But he doesn’t fall. His exasperated and terrified would-be-assassin can only scream and question why his enemy is still standing. Thanks to the inclusion of a Madonna song, the scene tows the line between hilarious and incredible. We instantly knew Tony was the real deal after this flashback. And just in case you forgot how hard he is to take down, he later kept two of the bullets in his mouth.

"Die Hard" (1988) While some villains do inhuman things, other villains are just inhuman. After going on a rampage of revenge against John McClane, Karl wouldn't even let serious wounds stop him. McClane hits this goon relentlessly with a series of crushing blows. After an intense brawl, he decides enough is enough and introduces Karl to a chain. McClane’s plan appears to be fatal until Karl makes a surprise return in the movie's finale. We questioned if he was a zombie until Sergeant Powell finally took him out. Although the movie’s big bad Hans Gruber was formidable, we bet John McClane still has nightmares about this henchman.
#8: “Jesus Christ Walks into a Hotel…”
"The Crow" (1994) Stop us if you’ve heard this one. After walking in on Funboy and Darla and with a guitar in tow, Eric Draven aka The Crow dares Funboy to shoot. The villain quickly obliges. Just when Funboy thinks he’s won, Eric turns and shows that he’s already healing. Although the Crow enjoys stumbling through a joke, it's no laughing matter for Funboy. His shots just aren’t effective against his enemy. Funboy asks a very pressing question about Eric’s mortality… right before the Crow finishes his joke and makes the villain hurt himself on his own bed. If Funboy wasn’t such a terrible human being, we might’ve felt bad that he didn’t get the joke.

"What If?” (2021-) When Ultron gained the power of all the Infinity Stones, we weren't sure how the heroes could possibly stand a chance. Fortunately, Strange-Supreme knew how to keep his allies safe from being instantly eliminated by the robot. His protection spell was strong enough to defend against most of Ultron’s heaviest attacks. After the heroes endure a particularly vicious onslaught of power, the robot can’t compute how his enemies are still standing. Ultron’s confusion marked the beginning of the end of his terrifying reign. Although he was certainly powerful, even he was no match for the guardians of the multiverse.

“Monty Python and the Holy Grail” (1975) During King Arthur's journey, he comes across the intimidating and imposing Black Knight. Although the royal tries to pass by without violence, the two eventually cross swords. The duel appears to be over when Arthur removes one of the Black Knight’s arms. However, the king’s opponent hilariously insists on continuing their match. After Arthur obliges the request, the scene gets even more absurd. The Black Knight just can’t seem to stop losing limbs. This scene became legendary for its ridiculously quotable lines and hilarious reactions. It’s a shame Arthur wasn’t able to recruit this determined knight into his court.

"Freddy vs. Jason" (2003) Freddy gets frustrated that Jason is stealing his thunder and racking up tons of victims. So, the nightmarish villain decides to fight Voorhees. But since both these horror icons are each damn near impossible to beat, their fight was bound to take a while. Just when it looks like Jason is off to a good start, Freddy recovers and goes on the attack. Krueger even tries to defeat Vorhees with his own machete. But after Freddy drops a whole boiler on his enemy, he’s left stunned that Jason can keep going. The nightmare of Elm Street got what he deserved for messing with the terror of Crystal Lake.

Since the knife didn’t get through, the henchman takes things up a notch and tries the machine gun on powers. Austin thinks quickly and uses Robin as a shield again. After surviving gunfire, she endures a bazooka blast and goes flying out the window with Austin. Thanks to some quick repositioning, Robin breaks his fall as well. Austin gives this scene a hilarious punchline by asking the question that was on all our minds.
#3: “Losing Your Touch?”
"A Fistful of Dollars" (1964) Sometimes, it's better to just aim for the head. A gang of bandits learned this the hard way in their final showdown against the Man with No Name. While his odds looked bad, he had an ace up his poncho. After taking multiple shots to the chest and taunting his increasingly concerned foe, the hero gets up again. His assailant realizes he's out just when Clint Eastwood reveals his makeshift bulletproof vest. This reveal results in one of the most powerful reactions in cinema history. Although this scene would’ve been memorable if it just appeared in one film, it cemented its pop culture status again by being heavily referenced in the “Back to the Future” franchise.
#2: Hasta La Vista...Maybe
"Terminator 2: Judgment Day" (1991) After the first Terminator movie, it would be safe to assume explosions aren't going to stop these killing machines. But the heroes always have to try to stop these evil robots. During their final fight with the T-1000, it gets covered in liquid nitrogen. When it seems to be completely solid, Arnie pulls out his gun and finishes him off with one of his classic one-liners… or so he thinks. After shattering into thousands of pieces, the machine proves how advanced it truly is. It’s able to regenerate and slowly pull itself back together from tiny droplets. John Connor and his allies can only watch in terror as the T-1000 gets ready for another round.

"V for Vendetta" (2006) Bringing a knife to a gunfight is usually a bad idea...unless you’re V. During his final mission to take down the establishment, the hero runs into Creedy and a legion of men. But that doesn’t bother the revolutionary man. V takes countless bullets before jumping into action. Although he’s been heavily wounded, he takes down every single guard to fulfill his dark prophecy. Creedy can only grow more desperate as he fails to shoot down the seemingly unkillable V. It’s epic to see the hero have the upper hand while the villain questions everything. Even the knowledge that body armor played an important role doesn’t change how iconic this scene is.
