Admit it, we've all worn or tried these “fads” before. We're not saying these celebrities were the one who invented these fads but they sure made them popular in the mainstream. We've included fads like shuttershades, low pants, selfies, #yolo and more!

#10: The Miami Vice Look

Before CSI, there was Miami Vice, the ultra-cool, fashion-forward 80s TV series starring Don Johnson as James Crockett and Philip Michael Thomas as Ricardo Tubbs. The show was a source for many popular trends, like Ray-Ban Wayfarers, the 5 o’clock shadow, shoes with no socks and rolled up shirt sleeves. Accessories aside, the iconic Miami Vice look was all about a t-shirt under an Armani jacket. It wasn’t just any t-shirt either; the drama had “approved” colors like pink, blue, peach and fuchsia. Designers Versace and Hugo Boss were also consulted to ensure the cast was always on-trend.

#9: Spandex Bike Shorts

Skin tight spandex bike shorts are back, thanks to Kim Kardashian, and this won’t be the first time they have been sported by the rich and famous. Back in the 80s, they were the fashion choice for many rockers and pop stars. Who can forget Axl Rose leaving little to the imagination with his star-spangled banner bikers? Or Milli Vanilli’s longer, more distinguished version? Whether worn under short skirts or basketball shorts, spandex was a huge trend in the 80s and keeps evolving over the decades.

#8: Athletic Socks and Slides

Who would have thought something your grandfather wears would become a high fashion fad? When it comes to function over fashion, in this case, function takes the win! Thanks to the recent athleisure movement, stars like Snoop Dogg and Rihanna make wearing slip on sandals with socks look cool. But before big names started rocking this trend, it was reserved for professional athletes. Slipping into a pair of athletic slides post or pre-game was just easy and comfortable, more so than lacing up a pair of sneakers. Quickly, designers caught on, adding fur, feathers and crystals as embellishments.

#7: The Man Bun

Decade after decade we see fashion trends come and go. The same goes for hairstyles. Believe it or not, what was once called the tikitiki back in the 1300s, is now a favorite go-to for Hollywood hunks! The man bun wasn’t always just a fashion statement; back in the day they were worn by samurai to keep their helmets from falling off. This involved gathering all the hair into a bun high up on the head. Centuries later however, celebs like David Beckham and Orlando Bloom have made it so that the man bun is here to stay.

#6: Shutter Shades

They made their debut in the 1950s, then surprisingly came back in style in the 80s ,and again in the 2000s thanks to trendsetter Kanye West. It was famous eyeglass designer Alain Mikli who designed a colorful pair of shutter shades for Yeezy to wear in his “Stronger” video. While this eccentric eyewear doesn’t actually block UV rays from damaging your eyes, they do provide shade, much like blinds would in your home. Love them or hate them, shutter shades make a definite fashion statement.

#5: The Dab

Love it or loathe it, there’s a lot of mystery surrounding 2015’s most popular dance move. Did it actually originate in the world of music, or in the world of sport? One thing we know for sure: the dab was born in Atlanta. Rapper Skippa Da Flippa demonstrated the dab in his music video for “How Fast Can You Count It” and since then, the move has gained tremendous popularity. NFL star Cam Newton brought the dab to a whole new audience when he made it his go-to celebration move. The quarterback’s love for the dab was short lived. however, and rumor has it he’s on the hunt for a new signature move.

#4: Twerking

Ah, the dance everyone loves to hate but can’t stop watching and shamelessly trying for themselves. Twerking, the provocative gyrating of the lower body, was born out of New Orleans bounce music, and quickly rose to fame thanks to hip hop artists like Lil Jon and The Eastside Boys and the Ying Yang Twins. The raunchy, down and dirty, and suggestive dance reached a whole new level when Miley Cyrus appeared on the VMAs with Robin Thicke. Let’s just say her performance was not for the faint of heart. #3: Sagging Pants

Mainstream is boring! When you want to tell the world you’re different and unwilling to conform to society’s norm, let your pants sag down to your knees! Since the early 90s, skater kids and rap culture enthusiasts have been letting their boxers breathe while wearing pants far below their waists. A trend that some people believe started in prison, because there are no belts allowed, made a comeback thanks to pop stars like Justin Bieber and Liam Payne. Unlike the MC Hammer harem pants trend, which also had a sagging effect, the waist was always secured in its natural place.

#2: YOLO

It wasn’t long ago when the response to any bad choice from over indulging to getting a speeding ticket was “#YOLO” – you only live once. It’s the millennial version of “carpe diem” or “Seize the day!” And it’s all thanks to Canada’s darling Drake, who popularized the acronym with his hit song, The Motto. It all began as a PR stunt to create buzz around his mixtape, but the sensitive hip hop star had no idea just how big the hashtag would get. It got so big, in fact, it was parodied by The Lonely Island, in a song featuring Adam Levine and Kendrick Lamar.

It’s no secret that we are all hopelessly obsessed with social media, our smart phones, and of course, selfies! One of the most skilled and popular selfie takers is Kim Kardashian West, who is credited for breaking the internet with hers. Kim is so obsessed with her selfie-taking that she went ahead and published a book of selfies, and is no stranger to posting fresh in the flesh selfies on the regular. Unlike the dangerous Kylie Jenner Lip Challenge inspired by Kim’s younger half-sister Kylie, taking selfies is a relatively risk-free activity.
