When we first meet Stevie Budd, she’s a sarcastic motel clerk who always has a dry remark ready for the Roses, but never enough towels. Over the years, though, Stevie truly becomes a member of the family. We see just how far Stevie’s come when she gives David monogrammed towels as an engagement present, saying that she already gave Patrick her blessing. David isn’t the only one who views Stevie as family. In a heartfelt pep talk before her “Cabaret” performance, Moira assures Stevie that she’s going places and is much more than the girl behind the desk. This accumulates to a show-stopping performance of “Maybe This Time,” which parallels Stevie’s personal journey to becoming a more confident person who’s finally realizing her full potential.

#9: Alexis’ Graduation “Grad Night”

The Season 3 finale sees both Rose siblings reach major milestones in their lives. For David, his romantic relationship with Patrick is cemented when they share their first kiss. The episode’s emotional apex, however, comes at Alexis’ graduation. Considering that the Roses weren’t very active in each other’s lives before going broke, Alexis isn’t exactly shocked when Moira seemingly misses her big night for a Jazzagals event. This makes it all the more uplifting as the curtain pulls back to reveal Moira and her fellow Jazzagals, surprising Alexis with a performance of “Baby I’m Yours.” It not only demonstrates how Moira and Alexis have grown closer as mother and daughter, but how the Jazzagals are willing to drop everything to support one of their own.

#8: Not Single Anymore “Singles Week”

Ted essentially starts off as “the other guy” in a love triangle, but eventually evolves into the only guy for Alexis. Although Alexis misses her shot (twice), she finally lays all her cards on the table. After confessing her love to Ted, Alexis doesn’t expect anything to come from it. Ted isn’t sure how to process this information until he shares a surprisingly insightful conversation with David. This heart to heart puts things into perspective for both men, as David reciprocates Patrick’s “I love you” from earlier. Ted, meanwhile, finds Alexis at a singles event of all places. In so few words, Ted tells Alexis how he feels with a passionate kiss, delivering on years of will-they-or-won’t-they tension in the most satisfying way.

#7: David + Stevie = BFFs “The Jazzaguy”

Top 10 David & Stevie Moments on Schitt's Creek

Throughout Season 1, it’s strongly suggested that David and Stevie are going to become an opposites attract couple. While they do hook up for a brief period, the two find that they’re not romantically compatible. Nevertheless, they come to love each other in a different way. Awkwardly accepting a honeymoon package, Stevie gives David some encouraging advice about his relationship with Patrick. Seeing that Stevie has stuck with him through thick and thin, David tells her that she’s the best friend he’s ever had. Stevie typically hides her affection behind cynicism, making it hard not to get choked up when she cracks a grin and tells David that he’s her bestie. If only the lovers’ curry hadn’t put a damper on the moment.

#6: Simply the Best “Open Mic”

It may not be a musical, but some of the most heartwarming moments in “Schitt’s Creek” are expressed through song. Nobody, least of all David, is sure what to expect when Patrick decides to sing on open mic night. Although David is prepared for the worst, Patrick’s performance is simply the best. Dedicating the Tina Turner love ballad to David, Patrick catches everyone off guard with his tender display, as well as his amazing singing chops. The loving smile that sneaks up David’s face says everything and Moira is equally moved by her son’s butter-voiced beau. David might not be able to sing like Patrick, but he extends him an olive branch later with a marvelous lip sync performance that screams, “no, you’re the best!”

#5: Dancing as a Family “Happy Anniversary”

Roses are the symbol of love, but the Rose family initially doesn’t come off as very close. It took a great financial strain to finally bring them together and evaluate the true worth of family. By the end of Season 2, the Roses are able to let down their snarky defenses and embrace the love they share for each other. On their anniversary, Johnny and Moira surprise their children by showing up to a barnyard dance. Moira breaks the ice, telling David and Alexis how much they mean to them. A touched Alexis is quick to reciprocate and while David habitually resists saying “I love you” to anyone, save Mariah Carey, he can’t resist getting in on the cheerful moment. This is precious love.

#4: Ted & Alexis Break Up “The Presidential Suite”

Usually, when a fan favorite couple calls it quits, the audience inevitably winds up ugly crying. The way Ted and Alexis’ breakup is handled, however, is unexpectedly touching. The two have finally settled down into a healthy relationship, but both are heading in different directions. Ted’s been offered his dream job overseas and new opportunities are opening up for Alexis as well. Despite still clearly being in love, Alexis and Ted come to the mutual revelation that they need to go their separate ways to grow as individuals. Before bidding farewell, they part on good terms over a bittersweet dinner. It’s a highly relatable moment for anyone who’s ever had to let go of somebody they loved, showing how both Alexis and Ted have matured.

#3: Patrick Comes Out His His Parents “Meet the Parents”

When David brings in Patrick’s parents for a surprise party, Johnny accidentally lets the cat out of the closet. Things seem to be heading into dark territory, as Patrick’s parents appear distraught to learn that their son is gay. As it turns out, Patrick’s mom and dad aren’t at all upset about his sexuality. The fact that Patrick was afraid to tell them, however, makes them feel as if they’ve failed him. They’re given a chance to show their support when Patrick properly comes out to them at the diner. To Patrick’s delight, his parents immediately accept him and his relationship with the man he loves. Of course, Patrick can tell that his parents already knew about him and David, which is the real surprise.

#2: Patrick’s Proposal “The Hike”

Also in:

Top 10 Best David & Patrick Moments on Schitt’s Creek

David and Patrick aren’t just one of the best LGBTQ+ couples in modern television. They’re one of the best TV couples in general. Their relationship goes to show that love can blossom in the most unexpected places, even in a town called Schitt’s Creek. So, it’s only fitting that a horrible hike would end in one of the show’s most romantic moments. An accident leaves Patrick barely able to walk, but he fortunately only needs one knee to ask David a life-altering question. In a beautiful speech, Patrick tells David why this hiking trail holds a significant place in his heart. As if Patrick’s poignant words weren’t already enough to sweep David off his feet, the rings seal the deal. Before we unveil our top pick, here are a few honorable mentions. #1: The Finale “Happy Ending”

Also in:

Top 10 Steven Universe Moments That Made Us Happy Cry

“Schitt’s Creek” couldn’t have built to a happier ending - in more ways than one. Joking aside, this finale brings the feels as the town gathers to pull off David and Patrick’s wedding during a rainstorm. It may not be what David anticipated, but the ceremony is oddly perfect and the same can be said about his relationship with Patrick. As much as we teared up when “The Best” started playing, the emotional gut-punch is saved for Johnny and Moira’s sendoff. We’ve watched this family grow like literal roses and although they’re all starting promising new chapters, we weren’t ready to say goodbye. If the updated town sign is any indication, though, the Rose’s will always be a part of Schitt’s Creek and vice versa.
