#10: “Friends & Family”

Top 10 Friends Episodes to Watch When You Want Faith Restored in Humanity

This episode showcases just how much growth people are capable of. Even the Roses, who sometimes seem stuck in their past. Moira and Johnny have their old family portrait back. But it’s literally too big, and in a touching moment, they come to realize it also figuratively no longer fits. It’s also time for Rose Apothecary’s soft launch, which is a huge success. The pure pride Moira and Johnny feel as they see what David created is enough to bring tears to anyone’s eyes. Plus, Alexis passes her exams, so it’s nice to see both her and David’s hard work paying off! If you need a reminder that it’s never too late, look no further than this episode.

#9: “Surprise Party”

Johnny really wants to plan a perfect surprise birthday party for Moira, which is a testament to his love for her. It’s heartwarming to see how he refuses to let their financial circumstances stand in the way of celebrating her. Of course, the path there is riddled with shenanigans, like Moira unknowingly trying to plan the event and David having to tell her about the surprise. But at the end of the day, everything works out. Johnny and Moira dance with each other and have a genuinely good time at the party, which they hadn’t done a lot since the move. It just goes to show viewers that no matter how chaotic things get or how hopeless they seem, everything will be okay.

#8: “Singles Week”

It's Singles Week in town and a big episode for our favorite couples! Patrick tells David he loves him, but doesn’t pressure him to say it back. Meanwhile, Alexis makes a speech that shows how much she’s grown and learned about love. Plus, David and Ted, a rare character pairing, have an honest and vulnerable talk. It leads to Ted and Alexis getting back together, and David telling Patrick he loves him too. The joy and affection between the characters is moving. Not to mention watching David root for his sister's love story warmed our hearts. And if that wasn’t enough to restore your faith in humanity, Jocelyn also gives birth in this episode! It’s enough to make even the biggest skeptic feel like there’s hope.

#7: “Merry Christmas, Johnny Rose”

There’s nothing like a good holiday special to infuse a little joy into the day. Johnny really wants to throw a Christmas party, but the family is reluctant. David slacks on getting decorations, Alexis says she can’t come, and the tree falls apart. Needless to say, things start to look pretty bleak, and Johnny loses hope. But everyone bands together and surprises him with a lovely celebration. While it's nowhere near as lavish as the parties they had when the Roses were rich, which we see play out in parallel, it's infinitely more special. This time around, they are all present and enjoying each others' company, a rarity in the old days. It will make you want to hug your loved ones close year-round!

#6: “Grad Night”

It's Alexis' graduation, and she tells the family not to come, even though she wants them there. Plus, everyone forgot David’s birthday. But Patrick offers to take him out for dinner, and after a slight misunderstanding on David’s part, the two share their first kiss. That, coupled with how vulnerable and honest Patrick is with David afterward, made it clear something special was happening between the two. And we see how proud Moira is of Alexis when she surprises her at the graduation ceremony with a Jazzagals performance that brought us to tears. Plus, the episode ends on a touchingly hilarious note when Johnny and Moira surprise the kids with a celebratory cake. It’s a feel-good episode all around.

#5: “The Hike”

Also in:

Top 10 Most Hilarious Schitt's Creek Bloopers

This heartwarming episode puts the spotlight on love. Johnny isn’t feeling well, which leads to Moira declaring her love for him in the middle of the hospital waiting room. It’s over-the-top, as everything she does is, but it’s also a genuinely uplifting moment. Of course, this is also the episode where Patrick takes David on a hike and proposes with rings reminiscent of the ones he always wears. But not before David carries Patrick on his back after he hurts himself. It’s a real display of love since he’s not one for physical exertion. Not to mention Patrick’s speech while proposing is enough to make anyone believe in love again.

#4: “Open Mic”

5 Times Charlotte from Sex and the City Was the Most Open-Minded & 5 Times She Really Wasn't

No matter how many times you’ve seen this episode, it’s hard to hold back happy tears when Patrick serenades David. They are surrounded by people, but only have eyes for each other. It was always clear, but this is the moment where it became impossible to deny that the two are meant to be. There’s a different type of relationship that grows in this episode too. As the motel undergoes a reinvention, Stevie panics at the prospect of being left behind, but Johnny steps in to reassure her. She has become part of their family, which is reflected in the new motel name they surprise her with: Rosebud. This episode shows how much good can come from opening yourself up, both in love and life.

#3: “Happy Ending”

From the wedding that made everybody cry happy tears to the family's emotional goodbyes, this episode is bittersweet as it marked the end of the series. But everyone's stories ended in such a perfect and thoughtful way that it’s hard not to feel joy watching it. There's so much character development that comes to fruition, and you can't help but feel hopeful watching the Roses embark on their next journeys. While this chapter of their story is over, there’s an overwhelming feeling that the best is yet to come. The way the family made the most out of a difficult situation and came out stronger on the other side sends a message to viewers that they too can overcome the obstacles life throws their way.

#2: “Meet the Parents”

This is the episode where Patrick comes out to his parents. He’s afraid to, but with David’s support, he decides that the time is right. Patrick’s parents only want what’s best for him, and never hesitate to love and accept him. They’re thrilled he’s found a partner. There was a profound sense of love and light that encompassed the storyline, which gave a lot of people a sense of hope. What’s more, this episode fought back against the popular trope often found in the media where gay characters have to suffer trauma to be seen as worthy. Patrick never has to explain himself or defend his relationship with David. It’s uplifting to see him open up and be received with nothing but joy. He calls them out for abandoning the family in their time of need, defends the town that is now his home, and the Schitts, who are wonderful friends to them.
