In these digital times, physical weapons are arguably no longer the biggest threat to security - nationally speaking, or on a personal level. Thankfully, for those of us not on top of technology and its potential to be used towards malicious ends, we have Ben Hammersley. In this mini-series, originally airing on BBC News, Hammersley, a tech-centric journalist and author, presents an accessible but informative look at cybercrimes of all sorts, from online scams and piracy, to the dark web, surveillance and major cyber attacks - explaining the real world implications of each. With only 6 episodes, you’ve still got time to learn! #5: “Game Over, Man!” (2018) Incoming: March 23rd, 2018 Sadly, after 7 seasons of solid laughs, fans were forced to say goodbye to “Workaholics”. Though stars Adam Devine, Anders Holm, and Blake Anderson are all now established comedic actors who have branched out and appeared on a variety of programs, they’re still at their best when working together. And for fans of “Workaholics”, well… this Netflix Original film looks like a dream come true. It’s like a teenage “Die Hard” fantasy come to life, an action flick centering on a couple of wannabe game developers who are thoroughly unsuited for saving the day. Much to the delight of fans, it also feels like the “Workaholics” movie we never got! #4: “NOVA: Treasures of the Earth” (2016) Leaving: March 1st, 2018 With Discovery Channel having officially switched gears to producing buzzworthy, overly dramatic reality shows and pseudo-scientific programs, those looking to learn about this fascinating world of ours are often short on programming. Thankfully, Netflix has reasonably solid catalogue of scientific series, many courtesy of PBS. For those interested in gemstones, metals, fossil fuels, and the many subterranean mysteries our planet holds, NOVA is a must-watch. Not only does it explain how these substances form, but it also puts them in a societal context - exploring how they shaped civilization, and the risks of them running out. For the scientifically-minded, this three part series is definitely worth watching before it disappears March 1st. #4: “3rd Rock from the Sun” (1996-2001) Incoming: March 15th, 2018 Some of you might be too young to have caught this series during its initial run, but trust us, it’s out of this world. This Emmy Award-winning NBC sitcom explored the lives of aliens posing as humans to learn about life on earth, and starred the excellent John Lithgow, the hilarious Kristen Johnston and wonderfully odd French Stewart. Of course, it also starred a young Joseph Gordon-Levitt long before he became the charming heartthrob he is today. As of March 15th 2018, the entire 6-season series will be available on Netflix. So get out the popcorn and clear your calendar… you’re in for one hell of nostalgic ride.. #3: A Whole Bunch of Car Shows Leaving: March 1st, 2018 Have we got any automobile enthusiasts out there? If so, we’ve got some bad news for you. Netflix has a large catalogue of lesser known car shows, from the globetrotting series “Epic Drives” and the adventurous off-roading show “Dirt Every Day”, to versus series “Head 2 Head” and the beater-centric “Roadkill”, Netflix has long offered a program for every type of car lover. Sadly, these four shows, alongside “Ignition” and “Hot Rod Unlimited” will all be leaving the streaming service as of March 1st. Don’t worry though, Top Gear isn’t going anywhere! #3: “Love” Season 3 (2016-) Incoming: March 9th, 2018 This Netflix Original series from television and film juggernaut Judd Apatow has developed a strong and devoted fanbase thanks in no small part to the performances of series stars Gillian Jacobs, Paul Rust and Claudia O’Doherty as Mickey, Gus and Bertie. Though these characters might make you wince and cringe, they’re also refreshingly realistic and honest - a cast of characters that, for better or worse, a generation of viewers can certainly relate to. With that in mind, for fans of the series, the release of season 3 on March 9th is cause for much celebration. If you haven’t checked it out yet, consider this a reminder to try a few episodes of “Love” for yourself! #2: “Skinwalkers: The Navajo Mysteries” (2002-04) Leaving: March 1st, 2018 There are few cultures and demographics more overlooked and underrepresented in mainstream pop culture than that of Native Americans. This three part PBS miniseries from the early 2000s (originally marketed as three separate films) refreshingly boasts an all Native American cast, including the familiar faces of Adam Beach and Wes Studi. The two play a mismatched pair of police officers forced together to try to solve crimes with deep ties to Navajo culture and traditional beliefs. It’s a PBS production that shows its age at times, but for fans of police procedurals or anyone more interested in learning about America’s indigenous people, it makes for a unique viewing experience. #2: “Ghostbusters” (1984) Incoming: March 1st, 2018 When you feel possessed by the desire to watch a classic supernatural comedy, who you gonna call? As of March 1st, Netflix! That’s right, Netflix has acquired the streaming rights to the classic 1984 film “Ghostbusters” starring Dan Aykroyd, Bill Murray, Harold Ramis and Ernie Hudson. Though you’ve surely already seen this movie, there are few films out there more rewatchable than this one, and when it pops in that “newly added” section, countless subscribers looking for something to watch are sure to click play and take a trip down memory lane. And when you’re finished, they’ve now got “Ghostbusters II” waiting for you! #1: “Archer” (2009-) Leaving: March 14th, 2018 Lock your doors, don your most comfortable suit or turtleneck and set yourself up with your favorite drink. Whether that’s a melon ball, some Pierre Beauvoir Rouge, Schützenmeister or Old Buncombe bourbon, you’re gonna need it… because Archer is about to leave Netflix, and you’ve got a lot of binging to do. This often-offensive but consistently hilarious animated series, boasting a stellar voice cast, will be departing from Netflix as of March 14th. For those of you who’ve had on their watchlist but never got around to checking it out, or for fans interested in rewatching the series, consider yourselves officially in the DANGER ZONE. The second Marvel Netflix series after “Daredevil”, Jessica Jones quickly stood out from the crowd with its willingness to tackle difficult subject matter including sexual assault, and by giving us a strong, relatable, badass character with real trauma in her past. Though “The Defenders” was considered to be good but uneven, Jessica Jones’ second season looks to be another powerful outing for Krysten Ritter, as Jessica dives even deeper into her dark past in search of answers.
