VOICE OVER: Phoebe de Jeu WRITTEN BY: Spencer Sher
Why can't the true be a little more like the fiction? For this list, we'll be taking a look at couples from film and TV that we wish were dating in real life. A spoiler alert is in effect. Our list includes Buffy the Vampire Slayer, La La Land, The Office, Outlander, Once Upon a Time, and more! Join MsMojo as we count down our picks for the Top 10 Onscreen Couples Fans Wish Were Together In Real Life.

#10: Michelle Dockery and Dan Stevens “Downton Abbey” (2010-15)

As Lady Mary Crawley and Matthew Crawley respectively, Michelle Dockery and Dan Stevens provided us with a glimpse of what true love looked like for members of the British upper class in the early 20th century. While their on-screen relationship may have ended in tragedy, Dockery and Stevens are still very much alive in real life. So, if they were to start dating it would at least partially cushion the blow of Matthew Crawley’s untimely demise. Ah, at least we’ll always have that idyllic wedding to look back on, fictional as it may have been.

#9: Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock “Speed” (1994) & “The Lake House” (2006)

Regardless of whether it’s a high-octane action flick or a fantasy romcom, it’s clear that Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock have serious onscreen chemistry. Both have had their fair share of failed relationships and a comment Reeves made back in 2017 proves that the two A-list actors are obviously quite close. When asked about a potential film collaboration in the future he said, “I’ve been looking for [film projects] with Sandra — not with her, but for us.” Neither Reeves nor Bullock are currently married, so the door is still wide open!

#8: Clare Bowen and Sam Palladio “Nashville” (2012-18)

Who’d have thought that watching a TV couple sing country tunes together would be so damn cute! Scarlett O'Connor and Gunnar Scott’s on-again, off-again relationship was one of the most entertaining and at times dramatic parts of “Nashville”. For five seasons they kept us guessing, before ultimately deciding they simply weren’t right for each other. And while these two were a cute couple on screen, they’d be absolutely perfect for each other in real life as well! Unfortunately for fans, the hook up seems unlikely, as Clare Bowen was married in 2017 and Palladio is currently dating Cassadee Pope, winner of “The Voice” season three.

#7: Sarah Michelle Gellar and David Boreanaz “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” (1997-03)

This on-screen relationship was doomed from the start, what with Sarah Michelle Gellar being the titular vampire slayer and Boreanaz’ Angel being, well, a vampire. Despite this they still managed to give viewers a few seasons of steamy scenes and awesome adventures together. If only they could have carried their onscreen love into the real world, fans would have been totally elated! The two could have been one of Hollywood’s hottest couples, but alas, it was not meant to be. And seeing as how Boreanaz doesn’t exactly have the best track record when it comes to remaining faithful, Gellar may have actually dodged a bullet by not marrying him.

#6: Jennifer Morrison and Colin O'Donoghue “Once Upon a Time” (2011-18)

Easily this show’s hottest onscreen couple, the relationship between Emma Swan and Captain Killian “Hook” Jones spanned many seasons and gave fans plenty of juicy storylines. So, to see the two of them living their best lives together outside of the show would have been nothing short of perfect. Morrison is no stranger to dating co-stars, as she had a one-year relationship with Sebastian Stan, who played The Mad Hatter back in season two. Unfortunately for team Colifer (Colin + Jennifer), Colin O’Donoghue has been happily married since 2009.

#5: Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling “Crazy, Stupid, Love” (2011) & “Gangster Squad” (2013) & “La La Land” (2016)

If somebody says the words “hottest celebrity dream couple” and these two don’t automatically come to mind, then you’re probably living under a rock. Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling are currently two of Hollywood’s biggest stars, and to date they’ve appeared as onscreen lovers in not one, not two, but three major motion pictures. We fell hard for them in “Crazy, Stupid, Love”, witnessed some hard-boiled flirting in “Gangster Squad” and watched them dance their way across L.A. in “La La Land”. These two could have any guy or girl they want, but all we want is for them to forget all that and just get together already!

#4: Jenna Fischer and John Krasinski “The Office” (2005-13)

How Jenna Ortega Prepared to Play Wednesday

The first two seasons of “The Office” gave us a glimpse into how it really feels to be a guy relegated to the dreaded friend zone. Thankfully Jim was able to break out of it and he and Pam would go on to have one of the cutest TV relationships of all time. Who could forget their first kiss? Or Jim proposing to Pam in the rain? Or that touching wedding montage? In real life however, these two appear to be nothing more than friends, as both are happily married, with kids to boot. Hey, we can all dream, right?

#3: Caitriona Balfe and Sam Heughan “Outlander” (2014-)

The relationship between Claire and Jamie forms the emotional crux of this time travelling epic, set in post WWII England and 18th Scotland respectively. As the show bounces back and forth through time and space, the one constant is the bond shared by these two star crossed lovers. The show has yet to wrap, so we still don’t know what will become of Claire and Jamie, but we can certainly discuss our desire to see their real-life counterparts Caitriona Balfe and Sam Heughan hook up! They’ve been through so many incredible adventures together during their time on “Outlander” that it only seems right that they’d be a couple off screen as well. Here’s hoping!

#2: Zooey Deschanel and Joseph Gordon-Levitt “500 Days of Summer” (2009)

Listening to The Smiths in the elevator; kissing in the copy room; yelling “penis” at the top of their lungs in a public park. There are literally too many great scenes to choose from when it comes to this iconic cinematic couple. Sure, things didn’t exactly work out the way that they hoped, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt has come right out and said his character is “selfish” and “not a role model”; but guess what? We don’t care! He and Deschanel are perfect for each other. Just look at this adorable duet they did a few years back. With so much chemistry between them it’s kind of crazy that they’ve never dated. Before we unveil our top pick, here are some honorable mentions: Aubrey Plaza and Chris Pratt “Parks and Recreation” (2009-15) Katie Holmes and Joshua Jackson “Dawson’s Creek” (1998-2003) Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days” (2003) Jake Johnson and Zooey Deschanel “New Girl” (2011-18) Rachel Bilson and Adam Brody “The O.C.” (2003-07)

#1: Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio “Titanic” (1997) & “Revolutionary Road” (2008)

When you play ill-fated lovers in one of the biggest movies of all time, it’s pretty much a forgone conclusion that people are going to demand you become an item in real life. Such is the case for Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio post- “Titanic”. And seeing as how the former is on husband number three, and the latter has dated a bevy of actresses and models, we think it’s time they come to their senses and just give the people what we want! We suppose we’ll have to settle for their friendship, which is, admittedly, pretty adorable.
