She stands for hope, help and compassion for all. Welcome to WatchMojo.com and today we’ll be counting down our picks for the top 10 Supergirl moments. For this list, we’re focusing on Supergirl’s best moments, from her comic and animated adaptations. However, we’ll be excluding those from the live action 2015 TV show as they’ve got their own list! #10: Supergirl's Origin Story “Action Comics #252” (1959) Superman sees a rocket crash into earth and flies to the rescue. Instead of saving someone, a smiling woman flies out of the wreckage and says she’s Kara. Superman learns that they have a few things in common: they both come from the planet Krypton, escaped when it exploded and are cousins! After telling her story, Supergirl is eager become a hero, but Superman says she’ll need practice first. He leaves her at an orphanage to adjust to life on earth and she takes on the identity of Linda Lee. Supergirl’s origin story debuts a heroine that could smile after tragedy but still be ready to save lives. #9: Superman Introduces Supergirl to the World “Action Comics #285” (1962) Supergirl spends a few years training and saving the day in secret until Superman says that it’s time the world knew who she was. After taking a few moments to save her foster parents from a collapsing bridge, she appears on a live broadcast to be introduced by Superman. The news is met with excitement and happiness from humans and aliens. Although there’s no big action scene or major conflict, this moment sticks out for taking the time to highlight the courageous acts Supergirl was willing to perform before anyone even knew her name. #8: Supergirl Balances Life on Earth with Her Heroism “Supergirl Volume 7 #1” (2016)” In this new version of Supergirl’s story, she works for the DEO, a secret organization that battles alien threats...while attending school as Kara Danvers. She soon discovers that being on top of her class on Krypton doesn’t translate to earth and is mocked by classmates. Then when Supergirl stops thieves on a train, her boss at the DEO, instead showering her with praise, yells at her for not asking for permission. Feeling discouraged, she flies to the Fortress of Solitude to be alone. Seeing Kara’s struggles to fit in at work and school are issues we can identify with and ones we truly hope she overcomes. #7: Supergirl Frees Superman “Superman: The Animated Series” (1996-2000) When Superman is captured by the deadly Female Furies from the alien planet Apokolips, it’s up to Supergirl to save him. She wastes no time and travels alone into their base to confront them. At first, the combined strength of the deadly furies with the vicious Darkseid overwhelms Supergirl. But with a little strategy, grit and determination, she takes them all out one by one and frees Superman. Supergirl proves herself to be a capable fighter who can rush into danger without a thought if it means saving the people she loves. #6: Batgirl & Supergirl vs. Poison Ivy, Livewire & Harley Quinn “The New Batman Adventures” (1997-99) Batgirl is alone in Gotham City when the supervillain Livewire escapes. When Batman tries to reach Superman in Metropolis, Supergirl answers the call instead and flies to Batgirl’s side. Although the two heroines had never worked together before, they form a strong connection instantly. In response, Livewire gets some help of her own with the likes of Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy. At first, the villains seem to have the upper hand. But their raw power is still no match for the bond that the two young heroines share. In one evening, Supergirl and Batgirl show that sometimes crime fighting requires a woman’s touch. #5: Supergirl's Origin Story for the New 52 “Supergirl Volume 6 Issue #0” (2012) In this retelling of Supergirl’s origin story, we meet Kara as her home planet of Krypton is on the brink of destruction. As the planet shakes, Kara’s father takes her to a secret lab where she’s given a suit with her family crest, the trademark S. Supergirl’s joy is short lived as her father renders her unconscious and places her in a spaceship headed away from the doomed planet. Although Kara’s mother fights to keep Kara on Krypton, it is too late, and the pod sails away. This insight to Kara’s last moments with her family gives more depth to her character and more weight to the symbol on her chest. #4: Supergirl Reveals Herself to Jimmy Olsen “Superman: The Animated Series” (1996-2000) Supergirl is living a humble farm life and craves a little adventure. She finally gets her chance when the notorious Intergang wreaks havoc in Metropolis. Superman urges Supergirl to stay out of it, but she persists and goes undercover to infiltrate the group with reporter Jimmy Olsen. When she is exposed by Granny, the leader of Intergang, Supergirl rips off her civilian clothes and reveals her costume...and a huge grin. Supergirl also shows she isn’t one to back down from a fight and that she’ll have fun while doing it. #3: Supergirl vs. Galatea “Justice League Unlimited” (2004-06) Supergirl begins having nightmares where she attacks people and even kills them. When the nightmares get too real, Kara teams up with the Green Arrow and Question to figure out what’s wrong. Supergirl later discovers that she was cloned and the nightmares are the memories of her clone Galatea. Once the truth is revealed, Galatea attacks Supergirl, wanting to get rid of the connection to Kara’s good memories and conscience. Even though they have the same powers, Supergirl has to fight harder because her clone is older and stronger. Their clash is cut short, but Supergirl ultimately wins the day with her relentlessness and strong sense of justice. #2: Supergirl Battles Darkseid “Superman/Batman: Apocalypse” (2010) While trying to find her place on earth, Kara is abducted by the evil ruler Darkseid, and brainwashed and forced to fight as one of his soldiers. Darkseid’s influence is so strong that she fights her cousin Superman during her own rescue attempt. They barely manage to return to earth when Darkseid ambushes them at home. With Superman literally knocked out in space, Kara is forced to face one of the strongest beings in the universe - alone. She not only holds her ground in a brutal fight, but also manages to outwit Darkseid by banishing him into the middle of space with a little distraction from her cousin. After the battle, Kara decides to embrace who she is and chooses to become Supergirl. #1: Supergirl's Sacrifice “Crisis on Infinite Earths Volume 1 #7” (1985) In the Crisis on Infinite Earths comic, the villain known as Anti-Monitor seeks to destroy every reality. In the face of this threat, many heroes and one particular heroine answer the call. When Superman’s about to be killed by the Anti-Monitor, Supergirl rushes in and attacks with everything she’s got to save her cousin. Supergirl dominates the villain until she momentarily turns away to tell her friends to get to safety ‒ and that’s when the Anti- Monitor shoots an energy beam through her body, killing her. Supergirl’s final attack cost her everything, but saved every reality. It’s an unforgettable moment, and one that solidifies Supergirl as one of the strongest and most selfless heroines of all time.
