Top 10 Anticipated Comic Book Movies and TV Shows of 2018 We can’t wait for these heroes to save the day. Welcome to WatchMojo.com, and today we’re counting down our picks for the top 10 anticipated comic book movies and tv shows of 2018. For this list, we're highlighting the most interesting and exciting comic book adaptations that are set to premiere next year. All of 2018’s comic book movies, tv series and follow-up seasons of tv shows will be considered equally on our superpowered list. #10: “X-Men: Dark Phoenix” (2018) While 2016’s “X-Men: Apocalypse” left many fans disappointed, perhaps adapting one of the most important and celebrated stories in the mutants’ long history will right the ship. While they didn’t appear in 2006’s “X-Men: The Last Stand,” in the original story, the Dark Phoenix's actions make her a target of the Shi'ar alien race, who will have a role in the upcoming adaptation. Fan favorites like Quicksilver and Magneto will also return in a new 1990’s setting. With a legendary storyline and dynamic characters, the Dark Phoenix has the makings to be the X-Men movie fans have been waiting for. The film drops November 2nd, 2018. #9: “Legion” (2017-) It’s hard for a superhero show to stand out nowadays, but Legion nailed it. The series revolves a man named David Haller who believes he is schizophrenic. In reality, he’s a mutant with incredible psychic powers. As David discovers the truth, his allies at Summerland, the shadowy Division 3 and the sinister Shadow King fight for control over his abilities. Their struggle played out through incredible visuals, an outstanding supporting cast and plenty of suspenseful scenes. Without spoiling too much about season 1, let’s just say David still has some huge threats to deal with. If you missed this unique narrative, there’s still time to tune in before it returns for its second season in February 2018. #8: “Titans” (2018) The Titans are a team made up of young heroes and sidekicks from across the DC Universe. Over time, they prove themselves to be just as capable as their older counterparts. There have been several beloved adaptations and one despised version of the young team. The upcoming live-action lineup will include former Batman sidekick Dick Grayson, the shapeshifting Beast Boy, the alien princess Starfire and the mysterious and magical Raven. Their first major villain will be Acolyte, a man who wants to take control of Raven’s mystical powers. We have a feeling the Titans won’t make that easy. #7: “Ant-Man and the Wasp” (2018) 2015’s Ant-Man gave us two big superheroes. There was Scott Lang, a former thief who acquires the power to shrink with the Ant-Man suit. Then there was Hope van Dyne, an intelligent and badass woman who helps train Scott. The two made a good team, but Scott was the only one to get a super suit. Fortunately, a bonus scene revealed that Hope was set to become The Wasp. The Wasp is an iconic heroine and one of the first Avengers. She was originally planned to appear in Civil War, but the role was cut. This sequel will finally put Wasp in the spotlight while bringing back the hilarious Ant-Man. It’s a team-up that’s long overdue. #6: “Aquaman” (2018) It’s getting harder to call Aquaman lame. For years, the undersea hero was the butt of many jokes about his squeaky-clean image and seemingly limited powers. But after his comic took a darker tone, fans started to respect the king of Atlantis. Jason Momoa, known for playing Khal Drogo, certainly made a splash in Justice League, so we can’t wait to see more. Plot details are vague, but we know that the villainous Ocean Master and deadly Black Manta will be involved. Director James Wan, whose diverse resume includes Saw and Furious 7, will be at the helm for this underwater adventure. #5: “Venom” (2018) The Venom symbiote is an alien that must bond to a host to stay alive. It latched onto Spider-man for a while before he removed it. Desperate to find a new host, the alien latched onto Eddie Brock and became Venom. The character is known for his strength, cunning, and terrifying nature. But the last live-action version of Venom made the character look like a joke. This time around, Tom Hardy will put on the black suit. Hardy has proven he can be both intimidating and complex with roles like Bane in the “Dark Knight Rises”. We’re positive he’ll do the role justice and kill it as Venom. #4: “Jessica Jones” (2015-) Marvel’s partnership with Netflix has given us the invincible “Luke Cage”, the fearless “Daredevil” … and whatever “Iron Fist” was. But the Netflix hero whose return we’re most excited about is Jessica Jones. The series focuses on an alcoholic private investigator with super strength who never shies away from a fight. In the first season, she struggled to use her powers against Kilgrave, who had the ability to control people’s minds with his voice. What could’ve been an average episodic mystery became a deep narrative with complex characters, surprising humor and strong performances, most notably Krysten Ritter as Jessica. Whether season 2 brings us deeper into Jessica’s mysterious origins or brings on a totally new mystery, we’re eagerly awaiting her next case. #3: “Deadpool 2” (2018) The first Deadpool was a hilarious film about the mercenary Wade Wilson. After experimentation, he gains the ability to heal from pretty much anything. The film’s clever jokes and constant fourth wall breaks set it apart from other superhero films. In the last fourth wall break, Deadpool hinted Cable would appear in the sequel. Cable is the son of cyclops from a post-apocalyptic future. He’s known for being a little serious, which is the opposite of everything the Merc with the mouth is about. We can’t wait to see those two interact in a full trailer. We’ll settle for Deadpool’s bizarre Bob Ross parody video until then. #2: “Black Panther” (2018) The king is here. Chadwick Boseman returns as T’challa, the king of the African nation of Wakanda and its greatest warrior: the Black Panther. Black Panther made his landmark comic debut in 1966. Fifty years later, he made another fantastic first impression in Captain America Civil War. In his brief on-screen appearance, he showed himself as both a skilled fighter and a composed leader. Trailers have hinted at a full-length feature that will combine striking visuals with intense action and references to African culture. It’s a unique look that’s unlike any superhero film that we’ve seen before. Before we unmask our top pick, here are a few honorable mentions. “Cloak and Dagger” (2018) “Black Lightning” (2018) “Krypton” (2018) #1: “Avengers: Infinity War” (2018) The Avengers cannot be stopped. The 3rd film in the Avengers series will focus on the infinity gauntlet. The gauntlet grants near infinite power to the person who collects it and fills it with the six Infinity stones. Thanos will finally take center stage after being teased way back in 2012, and the Avengers, Guardians and other powered people will have to come together to take on the Mad Titan. Infinity war has the buzz, legacy, and heroes to easily take the top spot.
