Top 10 Craziest YouTube Challenges

Top 10 Craziest YouTube Challenges
VOICE OVER: Lisa Yang
Script written by George Pacheco

There have been some crazy YouTube challenges over the years! Most of them are plain dumb but a lot of them have caused serious damage! We've included YouTube challenges such as the cinnamon challenge, the nuclear fire noodle challenge, the Kylie Jenner Lip Challenge, the salt and ice challenge, the cayenne pepper challenge, the duct tape challenge, the wasabi challenge, the eraser challenge the ghost pepper challenge and the knock out/choke challenge

#10: Nuclear Fire Noodle Challenge

If you can't take the heat, get out of the kitchen. Our first YouTube challenge involves the consumption of ultra spicy ramen noodles, all to see who can best handle their spice. One particular brand of ramen from Samyang Hek claims to measure over eight thousand Scoville units of heat, making their moniker of "Nuclear Hot" both a promise and a warning. Some adventurous eaters may think they can beat the heat, but only those with true intestinal fortitude should attempt the Nuclear Fire Noodle Challenge.

#9: Kylie Jenner Lip Challenge

It might not be wise to try keeping up with this Kardashian. The Kylie Jenner Lip Challenge is achieved by putting one's lips inside of a shot glass and sucking the air out of it, which causes the lips to puff up in a manner resembling reality TV and social media star Kylie Jenner. The challenge gained mainstream attention after a number of young children received injuries [1] while performing the stunt, which can break the glass, causing damage to the face and mouth. Doctors also warned about the dangers of attempting lip enhancement at home, which can include severe swelling or bruising.

#8: Duct Tape Challenge

The Duct Tape Challenge is another crazy YouTube stunt that has been known to cause injuries. The challenge is to escape from a duct taped position while friends film the struggle. What was different about Skylar Fish's situation, however, was that his friends taped him standing up, leading to a fall that left Fish with a brain aneurism, multiple stitches, and a two-week hospital stay for rehabilitation. Perhaps his case, which could've ended up much worse, will serve as a warning against future dangerous viral challenges.

#7: Salt and Ice Challenge

Have you ever wondered what frostbite feels like? The Salt and Ice Challenge attempts to replicate that sensation, with its participants placing an ice cube upon a layer of salt, thus dropping the ice's temperature to the point where it causes a painful burning sensation. The challenge is to see how long one can stand the pain before removing the ice cube, but even a short time spent doing the Salt and Ice Challenge can cause severe after-effects, such as scarring or nerve damage. The moral of the story? Just don't try this one, ok?

#6: Cayenne Pepper Challenge

Ok, so you mastered the Nuclear Fire Noodle challenge, and proved yourself to be a fire-eating master. Ingesting a ladle of cayenne pepper shouldn't be a problem, right? Wrong! Tons of YouTubers around the world have found out firsthand how difficult it is to swallow a spoon full of this potent spice, and suffered the consequences. A quick look around the internet can reveal numerous accounts of Cayenne Pepper Challenges gone wrong, with the results including violent sneezing, coughing and vomiting. We don't know about you, but we're staying clear of this one.

#5: The Cinnamon Challenge In another example of the age-old question: "why are humans doing this to themselves?", we have The Cinnamon Challenge. The aim here is to swallow a spoon full of cinnamon and hold it down for a minute without drinking anything. If that sounds simple, that’s because it is…mostly. Unfortunately, there are a wealth of problems that can occur in the aftermath of this challenge, ranging from throat issues from gagging and vomiting, to increased risks of pneumonia or even lung damage. In other words, keep that cinnamon in the spice rack, where it belongs.

#4: The Wasabi Challenge

Let's be clear: we do NOT recommend snorting restaurant wasabi, a la the "Jackass" [1] We also don't recommend attempting The Wasabi Challenge, which involves consuming the potent horseradish-based condiment in either a fresh, paste or freeze dried form, then documenting the results and posting your pain for the world to see. Those who have tried their luck have reported reactions including violent nausea, watery eyes, mouth spasms and more. We're actually not sure what's worse: how eating wasabi feels on the way in....or how it feels, much later, on the way out.

#3: The Eraser Challenge

Somehow, we don't think the eraser manufacturers of the world ever thought their products would be used in this way. The Eraser Challenge involves rubbing an eraser on your skin as hard as you can, sometimes while performing a task or reciting a phrase. Unsurprisingly, this can lead to some pretty severe consequences, as the affected skin area can become prone to scarring or a serious infection. Concerned parents have been encouraged to wash affected areas with soap, water and antibacterial ointment. Of course, the best way to avoid these side-effects is to not do the challenge in the first place.

#2: Ghost Pepper Challenge

Fans of spicy foods are probably familiar with this potent, lethally hot pepper, but The Ghost Pepper Challenge requires you to get extra-familiar with it. This YouTube stunt involves consuming a whole ghost pepper, one of the hottest food items on the planet at over one MILLION Scoville units. The pepper is so dangerous that a man in San Francisco was treated in 2016 for a hole in his esophagus; a direct result of attempting The Ghost Pepper Challenge. Vomiting, sweating and abdominal pain can also result from ingesting this deadly veggie, making this YouTube challenge one severe gastrointestinal nightmare. Before we reveal our top pick, here are a few honorable mentions. Diet Coke and Mentos Challenge Lego Challenge Milk Gallon Challenge

#1: Knock Out/Choke Challenge

We've joked around with some of the challenges on this list, but there's nothing funny about this tragic and deadly trend. It's known by a number of names, including the Choking Game, Choke Challenge or Knock Out Challenge. They all revolve around the same idea, however: choking or otherwise rendering the participant unconscious, so they can attain a rush or high when they come to. Parents, doctors and other professionals have all expressed deep concern about these challenges, as the aftereffects can include brain damage or death. We cannot stress this enough: DO NOT TRY THIS.
