Top 10 Almost Disney Channel Kisses

Top 10 Almost Disney Channel Kisses
VOICE OVER: Kirsten Ria Squibb WRITTEN BY: Tal Fox
These almost Disney Channel kisses were so close to satisfaction. For this list, we'll be looking at the best and most frustrating moments where our favorite Disney Channel ships nearly locked lips. Our countdown includes "Liv and Maddie," "Descendants," “Girl Meets World," and more!

#10: Zed & Addison “Z-O-M-B-I-E-S” (2018)

Top 10 Best Disney Channel Kisses

It’s the oldest story in the world: girl meets zombie, girl and zombie fall in love, girl and zombie sing a love duet. It was the undeniable chemistry between Zed and Addison that made us believe that a kiss was imminent. Addison’s the first to put on the brakes, worrying that Zed will expose her naturally white hair. But the moment ultimately passes when they’re plunged into darkness due to the zombies’ curfew. This scene was so on fire that its abrupt end felt like we’d been doused in ice-cold water. All we could do was scream at our televisions.

#9: Liv Rooney & Holden Dippledorf “Liv and Maddie” (2013-17)

It wasn’t love at first sight for this pairing, but over time their feelings for each other intensified. In this scene, they sit side-by-side at the piano and sing the ever so romantic duet, “True Love”. Now, at this point, Holden’s still dating Andie - but as they say, the heart wants what it wants. As the song ends, they lean in. The audience held its breath in anticipation only for the moment to get interrupted by Willow and Andie. As much as we wanted Liv and Holden to get together, this outcome was probably for the best. After all, who needs all that drama?

#8: Austin Moon & Ally Dawson “Austin & Ally” (2011-16)

The writers seemed very aware of just how much the fans wanted these two to get together. Nevertheless, they were going to make us wait for it and teased us with multiple almost smooches. But it’s the one by the piano from season two that got our hearts racing the most. As they play together, their hands touch, their eyes meet, and the tension amplifies. We were so sure that this would be the moment we’d all been waiting for. But apparently, Ally disagreed. There’s something about music that fills the air with romance, but for now, that kiss was just going to have to wait.

#7: Mal & Ben “Descendants” (2015)

There are plenty of ways that the Disney Channel has stopped their stars from locking lips. But this one stands out for its creativity and unexpectedness. It’s the coronation party and the grand finale. Mal and Ben stop mid-song for what we’re led to believe will be their first kiss. However, they change their minds and jump straight back into the song. Luckily, “Set It Off” was too catchy for us to feel too disappointed for long. Even if we’d have to wait for that magical moment, we had no doubt that it was coming. The sequels couldn’t get here fast enough.

#6: Sydney Reynolds & Harry “Sydney to the Max” (2019-)

Who says that all near kisses have to be sentimental? Just ask Sydney. When her old friend Harry moves back into town, she realizes that she likes him as more than just a friend. And based on the signals he’s giving off, the feeling might just be mutual. Or not. Sydney thinks that he’s creating a romantic ambiance, but he’s actually just setting up for movie night. So, when she goes in for a kiss…[faceplants]. We’re embarrassed for Sydney…but it’s also kind of funny. It might not have been her first kiss with Harry, but she and the floor certainly got better acquainted.

#5: Maya Hart & Lucas Friar “Girl Meets World” (2014-17)

Top 10 Hilarious Maya Rudolph SNL Performances

During their trip to Texas, the Riley-Lucas-Maya love triangle comes to a head when feelings are revealed. Of course, Maya dodges dealing with her emotions by teasing Lucas instead. To make her stop talking, he grabs her face and holds it real close to his. The moment is intensified by the sounds of the crackling fire as they gaze into each other’s eyes. But we’ll let you in on a little secret, the writers confirmed that in an alternative shot, there was nothing “almost” about that moment. Those writers sure like to tease, but it was hard not to be team Maya after that.

#4: Troy Bolton & Gabriella Montez “High School Musical 2” (2007)

If you grew up on Disney Channel, Troy and Gabriella were the ultimate couple goals. Well, maybe apart from the fact that it took them two movies to finally lock lips. From “We’re All In This Together”, ( this couple fell victim to constant interruptions whenever they were bitten by the romance bug. One of the most notable occasions was during their cute picnic date in the second movie. It seems like the perfect time for a first kiss, but we guess that not everyone agreed [sprinkler]. The sprinklers put a damper on the moment. Not that Troy or Gabriella seem to mind too much.

#3: Miley Stewart/Hannah Montana & Jesse “Hannah Montana” (2006-11)

Jesse showers Miley/Hannah with compliments, leaving her totally entranced. As he slowly walks towards her, we can’t help but yell, “But what about Jake?!” They get so close but luckily, she snaps out of it in the nick of time and remembers that she already has a boyfriend. But that doesn’t stop her from vocalizing her true feelings (perhaps, a bit too enthusiastically). If we had to compile a list of the worst times to tell a guy that you want to kiss him, we’d probably put “as your boyfriend walks in” at the top. You can’t always have “The Best of Both Worlds.”

#2: Maddie Rooney & Digbert “Diggie” Smalls “Liv and Maddie” (2013-17)

Top 10 Behind the Scenes Secrets About Liv and Maddie

Maddie and Diggie (or “Miggie” to the stans) were interrupted by Joey so often that it became a running gag. But there’s one standout moment in particular that simultaneously made us laugh out loud and hit us in the feels. As Maddie sees Diggie off in the airport, it seems like the perfect time for a first and last kiss. Only, once again, Joey misreads the situation and ruins everything. It was kind of heartbreaking to see them part ways without sharing that special moment. But it just meant that when it finally did happen, it was pure fireworks. Before we unveil our top pick, here are a few honorable mentions. Nick Lucas & Macy Misa, “Jonas L.A.” (2009-10) Stella Didn’t Read the Room Alex Russo & Mason Greyback, “Wizards of Waverly Place” (2007-12) One of the Saddest Non-Kisses on the Disney Channel Jessica Olson & Christopher Wilde, “Starstruck” (2010) Disney Channel Siblings Sure Know How to Pick Their Timing Kayla Morgan & Will Cloud, “Cloud 9” (2014) Disney Went to New Depths to Avoid This Kiss Lela & Tanner, “Teen Beach Movie” (2013) Who Has Time to Smooch When Their Friends Are Missing?

#1: Zenon Kar & Greg “Zenon: Girl of the 21st Century” (1999)

What could be more romantic than sharing a kiss under a star-filled sky? Despite her home and everyone she loves being in danger, time is of the essence and Zenon has no time for subtleties. There’s something in the air, but Greg seems hesitant. So, she tells him if he wants to plant one on her, he should just do it. Of course, that’s not exactly how things work out. Out of all the near kisses on our list, this awkward and clumsy one is the most adorkable. Their second attempt isn’t any more successful. At least it’s probably less painful.
