Welcome to MojoPlays, and today, we're taking a look at the Scariest Moments in “Resident Evil: Village”! For this video, we're counting down the most hair-raising moments from “Resident Evil: Village” and its “Shadows of Rose” expansion as well. So, here's your spoiler warning. Our list includes Sturm, The Mannequins, The Baby and more!

Why Don’t You Take a Closer Look?

Capcom certainly took some cheap shots at trying to get the jump on us. Take that dumb pig for example. Run, lil piggy, ‘fore I turn ya into crispy bacon!! However, one of the locked codes suckers you into making a close observation. Just when you see what the combination to the lock is… [jumpscare] Yeah, that happens. It isn’t scary anymore, but you know, in the moment, we started holding down the trigger just to feel safe again.

Familiar Mold

Compared to other “Resident Evil” experiences, “Shadows of Rose” has a bit of a slow start to its terror. But when the ball gets rolling, there’s no stopping it. One of the earliest moments sees Rose coming across several corpses beneath Castle Dimitrescu. The most disturbing detail? Every corpse she finds has a strong resemblance to her. Where did these flawed copies come from? Why were they made to look like her? Regardless of their origin, it made our stomachs churn a bit.

The Hunt Begins

Speaking of Dimitrescu, the Lady Who Broke the Internet isn’t all that terrifying…or, at least, she wasn’t before she began searching for us. Yes, yes, she is basically another Mr. X, another Nemesis. But in that first encounter with her in the cellar, holy crap! Her claw can reach incredibly far, and you’re running around such a narrow corridor with little room to avoid her attacks. Obviously, the terror lessens the more frequently you’re around it, but when experienced for the first time, you go into full panic mode here.

Double D’s & Dragons

Of course, the most frightening moment involving Lady Dimitrescu doesn’t happen until your final fight against her. For a good chunk of the game, we’ve seen a voluptuous vampire woman with a demeanor as eccentric as her fashion. And what do we see for the boss fight? A mutated dragon of tentacles, fangs, and mold! And it’s huge!! How Ethan manages to beat her with a couple of regular weapons is beyond us, but we were sort of glad the nightmare was over. Well, in the Castle Dimitrescu area, it was.

Eat Your Heart Out, Chainsaw Man!

Granted, he isn’t as frightening as the other monsters lurking around Heisenberg’s factory, but Sturm is very much a foe that will make you yell expletives as you try to run away. Clumsy and a bit stupid, yes, but you don’t wanna enrage a living being whose upper body is a massive engine with a propeller made of chainsaws. It doesn’t help that the final encounter with him involves a bit of chaotic destruction with limited lighting in order to make it out alive. Kinda hard to see when debris is flying everywhere, and it’s worse when he’s spraying fire everywhere.

Welcome to the Factory

Let us back up a bit, though. Heisenberg’s factory is loaded with uncanny and garish creatures that will ambush you. Heisenberg’s monstrosities eat up quite a few bullets even when blasting the cores on their bodies. They do become child’s play when unlocking infinite ammo for powerful weapons like the Wolfsbane, but on a first playthrough, their resistance and persistence had us panicking a bit. Explosives made sure they got put down quickly, thankfully. And yet, this was not the worst of these mechanized menaces.

The Blackout

The worst part of Heisenberg’s factory is when you’re just about ready to confront the main man himself. Just before you’re gearing up to get out of there, the factory has a complete blackout, leaving you in the dark with limited vision. Heisenberg’s strongest creations will make their presence known and by this point in the game, you might be lower on ammunition from taking on the normal foes. And to make your situation more stressful, these more powerful adversaries come plated almost everywhere. Shooting their cores was a bit tougher due to their smaller exposure, and the ones that could fly made it especially aggravating.

Who’s Afraid of the Big, Bad Wolf?

You know, for a second, we almost forgot about the different werewolves - excuse me, lycans - that you encounter throughout the game. The Hammer Bro wannabes aren’t all that vicious, but the ones that had us shaking were the Alfas. Imagine escaping the trauma you suffered through Beneviento Estate or walking out of the dark depths of Moreau’s windmill to find one of these massive beasts nearby. To call us a deer in the headlights is an understatement! These guys are gross to look at, have enormous jaws with hundreds of fangs, and can leap at us or try to attack us through something as small as a doorway! Thank god these dudes started showing up when we already got the sniper rifle and Wolfsbane.

Worse Than FNAF

Back to “Shadows of Rose” one last time, this was a new terror that we could have gone through life without. Remember in the main story when we had to cut open a mannequin of Mia to obtain a variety of items? Well, that mannequin returns, and in greater numbers. “Shadows of Rose” forces you to endure the horrors of Beneviento Estate once more, but this time, there’s a segment where the Mia mannequins will follow you when you aren’t looking in their direction. And the clatter of their feet is enough to make us wanna close the game.

Worse Than Baby Forest Whitaker

You like that “Key & Peele'' reference? Well, we doubt you liked the Beneviento Estate in the main campaign. Whether you experienced it for yourself at launch or if YouTube algorithms and shameless creators spoiled it for you with thumbnails, the mutated fetus was hands down the scariest moment in “Resident Evil: Village”. There’s just nothing more traumatizing than seeing something so grotesque slowly crawl out of the shadows and start stomping in your direction. Forget the scares in RE7 - this was worse!
