(Todd Introduction)

#10: “Butt Attack Punisher Girl Gautaman” (1994)

…Okay so many in this instance the title perfectly matches the quality of the show. After all, the premise does revolve around an innocent Catholic girl who is tasked by Buddha into becoming a half-naked superhero in order to defeat a bunch of perverted villains at her school. Even if it’s exactly what it says on the tin, did you really need to include both attack and punisher in the title? I think it’s pretty clear that her posterior isn’t so much a weapon of mass destruction as it is cheap marketing tool.

#9: “I Want You To Make a Disgusted Face and Show Me Your Underwear”

Hey! If you want to make such gross, outlandish and otherwise demeaning demands, you’re going to have pay up front first. Or at least become a camp councillor at Camp Habertat. This anime hasn’t even been released yet and it already looks like a contender for most WTF addition the year’s line-up. A POV series about busty anime girls randomly showing off their undergarments? I’m pretty sure you can find all that and more at your nearest hentai tab. You’re not helping the “anime is art” argument here, developers!

#8: “Mangirl!” (2013)

Steady yourselves. This is not, I repeat is NOT, a series about some geezer finding his inner Lolita, or any kind of variation. It’s actually a funny and harmless show about a group of young ladies and their passion for drawing manga despite having no experience. Which begs the question, why the hell didn’t you title it Manga Girl instead?! Not only are you scaring away fans of genre with this little stunt, but have likely attracted and subsequently disappointed a whole other demographic who thought they were in for some wholesome futunari action.

#7: “I My Me! Strawberry Eggs” (2001)

I have been looking at the title of this series for the better part of an hour and I still don’t have a clue what the hell it’s supposed to mean! Even it this show revolves around a graduate crossdressing as a woman in order to get a job at a middle school, what the Haberfudge does that have to so with Strawberry Eggs? More importantly, what’s with the pronoun game? Did the creator just really fancy some fruit while suffering an identity crisis? Now I’m confused and hungry!

#6: “My Mental Choices Are Completely Interfering With My School Romantic Comedy” (2013)

What a coincidence! My mental choices to voice these WatchMojo videos have totally interfered with my life as well, though unlike Kanade, I’m not given the option on which miserable direction I want to take! While the show stands tall as a stellar comedy, did it really require a title that long and convoluted? Every romantic comedy features some element of schadenfreude, so you’re not really enticing us as much as you are stating the obvious. A much better mental choice might have been to shorten the damn name!

#5: “Listen to Me, Girls. I Am Your Father!” (2012)

Looking past the obvious Star Wars comparison for the moment, the problem with this title is that is does the anime a disservice. At its core, this show is all about a young man taking responsibility for his sister’s daughters after she is presumed dead, opening the gateway for all manner of deep, mature and highly emotional situations that both parents and non-parents will feel moved by. Unfortunately, given the medium it inhabitants, it wouldn’t be too much of stretch for a person to see the title and misinterpret it as “Hey non-blood related family members, I’m your new daddy, time for kinky hijinks!”

#4: “WorldEnd: What do you do at the end of the world? Are you busy? Will you save us?” (2017)

With a title like that, the plot almost becomes irrelevant. I mean…what in the name of Natsu’s pink drapes is this?! The whole WorldEnd thing is all well and good, but everything after? Not so much. What was the point in asking so many pointless questions? Actually, scratch all that, they didn’t go far enough. Why stop there? This show should be called WorldEnd: What do you do at the end of the world? Are you busy? Will you save us? What’s for dinner? Why can’t I have donuts? What’s wrong with donuts? Why won’t you let me have the last donut Mom? What do you mean Vic ate the last donut?

#3: “My Girlfriend is a Faithful Virgin Bitch” (2017)

First thing’s first, shame on you anime for using such derogatory language! Especially when referencing a young lady! I don’t care if she chooses to act like a five-dollar floozy in spite of the fact she hasn’t had her v-card punched. Have some class will ya! While it’s true that Akiho does tend to oversexualise things given her nervousness around the topic of intimacy, your title is robbing what little charm this series has in favour of making it sound like a r-rated DVD that I most certainly do not own!

#2: “The Legend of the Legendary Heroes” (2010)

Oh for shit’s sake! Would it have killed you to use a thesaurus?! Aside from making your anime sound unbearably childish and uninspired, you have the gall to more-or-less repeat the same word in the title?! How about the Legend of the Mythical Heroes? The Legend of the Fabled Heroes? Hell, I’d even settle for The Legend of the Equally-Impressive-As-Recorded-Per-Traditional-Means Heroes. Anything to spice things up a little. While the battles and bloodshed found with the opening episodes are certainly spectacular, there’s nothing legendary about that stupid title.

#1: “Senki Zesshou Symphogear GX: Believe in Justice and Hold a Determination to Fist” (2015)

Where…do I even begin with this one? I can understand trying to up the ante for an anime’s latest season by including a badass subtitle, but don’t you think you might have gone just slightly overboard on this one? In fact, I’m not even looking at this as a title, more like an autopsy. Let’s dissect it, shall we? Believe in justice and hold a determination to fist? Are you asking me to hold steadfast in the belief that of using my hand for raunchy purposes? Whelp, you heard them folks, apparently this anime thinks that there’s nothing nobler than Todd Haberkorn’s and his magic fingers. This was not how I expected my day to start…
