Not only was Sir John A. Macdonald the first Prime Minister of Canada, he was also one of the forces behind Canadian Confederation. Without this central historical figure, Canada would likely have never become a country. Not only was he instrumental in building the nation, he also supported women's right to vote before other world leaders and was nearly half a century in advance of the rest of the world.
