We hope you aren’t squeamish because things are about to get bloody! When it comes to the horror and action genres, video games aren’t shy about illustrating all the gruesome ways a character can die. For this list, we’ll be looking at game overs, quick time events and scripted deaths that left us feeling more than a little uncomfortable.

#10: Crazy Dr. Salvador
Weird to think that out of all the crazy bosses in Resident Evil 4, the one who scared us the most was just a guy with a chainsaw. Then again, he did take off Leon’s pretty head with a one hit kill.
#9: Welcome to Columbia
They may have been violent racists in the pocket of a crazed zealot…but getting a face full of Sky Hook is still a bad way to go.
#8: Another Carmine Bites the Dust
All the Carmine brothers suffered in someway, but getting your insides melted by acidic insects is pretty rough.
#7: The Killing Joke
Granted, the guy was a killer clown who butchered several innocent people with chainsaws, but seeing him get torn apart by his own weapons while he laughs his head off is more than a little unsettling.
#6: Impaled
Lara really didn’t have an easy time in her reboot, but by far the worst death she suffered was when she got a spike through the throat.
#5: For Those About To Rock
Nobody liked Until Dawn’s Emily, and the game gave players endless opportunities for her to meet her end. However, getting turned into meaty chunks via a rock crusher was kind of pushing it.
#4: Doom Unto You
There is nothing more gratifying then taking a chainsaw and ramming it into a demon’s face. There just isn’t.
#3: No Legs to Stand On
Did Hermes think that taunting Kratos was going to work in his favor? He learns his lesson the hard way when he gets his legs cut off.
#2: A Tasty Treat
Mileena doesn’t have great table manners, choosing instead to tear her victims in half with her bare hands before chowing down.
#1: Getting an Eyeful
Should the player fail this sequence, poor Isaac Clarke ends up getting impaled through the eyeball, caving in most of his skull in the process. Lovely.
