What…the hell just happened? Sure, not every game requires everything be wrapped up neatly by the end, but in the case of these ten titles, fans were left disappointed, shocked or just plain confused. Heck, to this day we’re still trying to get over some of these!
Fair warning, there are MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD!
#10: Sheâs a Lady
Wait, you mean to tell us that the badass, intergalactic bounty hunter is actually…A WOMAN?! As gamers of the 80s, we are shocked!
#9: Welcome to Dubai
Witness a soldier come undone as the darkness of humanity consumes his mind, leaving him a broken man whose only choice is to give into his inner killer.
#8: Happy Endingâ¦for Red XIII
Sephiroth is defeated, the world is saved, and all we get to see is the furry member of the gang with his future family in an epilogue.
#7: Minerva
So Desmond is watching the memories of his ancestor who happens to be interacting with the ancient recordings of a long civilisation, who then directly address Desmond? Seems legit.
#6: The Most Japanese Ending Ever
After you’ve taken down a whole slew of monstrous beings, you get to bare witness to the NPCs pull off a cute dance routine, alongside the most kawaii song you will ever hear.
#5: Red, Blue or Green
Excluding the extended cut, the ending to the third Mass Effect game was a colossal disappointment, since the only difference with the final three choices is the color palette.
#4: Booker Takes a Dip
So Booker kills Comstock…who is another version of Booker…only to then be willingly drowned by multiple versions of Elizabeth…because that will change time and space and…oh god, our heads hurt!
#3: Finishing the Fightâ¦Later
Halo 2 had such a build up towards the final fight…only to leave fans gutted by rewarding that hype with the mother of all cliffhangers.
#2: What. The. Hell. Is. That?!
Inside was a beautifully dark game that had us guessing at every turn, only for the whole thing to end with the lead character becoming a giant blob. Um…symbolism?
#1: The Dog
The lord of all joke endings. We can only imagine the look on the faces of fans when they found out that the mastermind behind all the horror in Silent Hill was a dog.
