Is there such a thing as a character that's "too attractive" in the video game world? Welcome to MojoPlays, and in this video, we're looking at 10 characters that were accused of being too sexy. Our list includes Sorceress and Amazon from “Dragon's Crown” (2013), Mai Shiranui from “Fatal Fury 2” (1992), Ivy from “Soulcalibur” (1998), Eve from “Stellar Blade” (2024), Miranda from “Mass Effect 2” (2010) and more!
10 Video Game Characters That Were TOO Sexy
Welcome to MojoPlays, and I’ve been nervous about this video for about 3 weeks. This is 10 Video Game Characters That Were TOO Sexy. A couple ground rules. 1. This is going to get playfully objectifying, please don’t cancel me. 2. This list, like all lists, was a group effort, I wanted Big Boss from MGS3 on this list but nooooooo, “Shut up Mat”, they said “Stop showing us shirtless pictures of Big Boss Mat”, they said “We don’t want your fan-fiction pitches Mat” they said.
#10: Sorceress and Amazon
“Dragon’s Crown” (2013)
Let’s make it clear from the get go, once we all turned this game on with our partners sitting next to us, we said “pffft, look at them, no human being looks like that, it’s actually insulting babe, honestly”… Why are you still looking then? You dirty perv. The Sorceress and Amazon exemplify the “TOO sexy” part of this entry because they are simply TOO sexy to be doing what they’re doing. Dragon's Crown drew significant controversy in pre-release coverage during April 2013 for its exaggerated character design, particularly the Sorceress' breasts and Amazon's buttocks. Put on some armor, for God’s sake! Stop it. Have a glass of water, take a nap.
#9: Lara Croft
“Tomb Raider Series” (1996-)
Although she no longer holds onto her meme-fied ridiculously tiny waist and triangular bosom, Lara Croft has been a leading sex symbol in video games since the 90s. Whether she wants to be is defined by the creators, not the character, the audience, not the character, and triangular boobs... Not the character. Square Enix re-imagined her look in 2013, bringing her a more proportional and normal appearance. Every Lara Croft redesign has received a certain amount of criticism with some thinking she’s being de-sexified as some sort of virtue signaling act, while others say the redesign isn’t going far enough, but we’ve been crushing on Lara since 1996, so when we see her cracking an enemy’s head open with a decent kick, our heart still flutters.
#8: Mai Shiranui
“Fatal Fury 2” (1992)
Human beings are very simple creatures. Show us a beautiful person with ridiculous dimensions who can also kick our arse, and we’ll show you where we want to get married. Mai Shiranui from the Fatal Fury and King of Fighters series has such a ridiculously unreasonable character model that her bust, hips and waist measurements are officially registered on Wiki. She was in fact deemed SO sexy that Sakurai had to explain to Smash Bros fans why she wasn’t included in Super Smash Ultimate, stating the Smash Bros is for good boys and girls. We should really be trying to move away from this type of fantastically enhanced human being, and to a more realistic beauty standard, but until then, WAH WAH WEE WAH!!
#7: Ivy
“Soulcalibur” (1998)
Ivy is another on our list who exemplifies the ‘TOO’ part, of being TOO sexy, because HOW IN THE HELL IS THIS COSTUME PRACTICAL FOR FIGHTING!? I CAN SEE EVERYTHING. AND I MEAN, EVERYTHING. Every entry on this list can’t be me saying “good lord Jesus Christ in heaven”, but seriously, good lord Jesus Christ in Heaven. Although Ivy has seen slight changes in costume across the various games she appears in, the fundamentals always remain the same, a barely clad lady fights giant knight armor-wearing behemoths, and rarely gets a scratch. Soulcalibur fans have doubted and questioned her outfit from the beginning of her appearances, but at no point is it ever explained why she dresses like a high end dominatrix.
#6: Tracer
“Overwatch” (2016)
Tracer was a major turning point in meme culture, attracting and almost birthing TikTok thirst, and bringing the word “simp” into the public lexicon. The gameplay of her character in Overwatch attracted a LOT of people. She was fast and effective, while her personality attracted a lot of… other people. Bubbly personality, effective gameplay, with a modest and attractive look, this combination appealed to a certain demographic (a neck beardy demographic) to blow her up to Cosplay/TikTok stardom, and her thirst status was cemented for all time. The big controversy surrounding Tracer’s look was around her victory pose. The simple argument was that the pose was too sexualised. The far more gripping argument was that Overwatch was reducing Tracer to just another bland female sex symbol, and undermining her character with a pose that lacked her personality.
#5: Johnny Silverhand
“Cyberpunk 2077” (2020)
What happens if you combine the personality of every punk band from 1995-2010 with the looks of Keanu Reeves? You get Johnny Silverhand. And let me tell you this, I can’t even tell you what I’d let him do with that Silverhand… Okay I will, I let him shove it up my ****. Johnny Silverhand exudes the cool swag of a burnt out rockstar, with the tall dark and mysterious look of a rebellion terrorist in a sci-fi universe, because he is a burnt out rockstar rebellion terrorist in a sci-fi universe. Johnny Silverhand was controversially given an alternate look option that opted to make him more 2020 sexy, which undermined his character and everything he believed in.
#4: Eve
“Stellar Blade” (2024)
Eve from Stellar Blade is our latest example of (and I hate to repeat myself) putting the ‘TOO’ in ‘TOO sexy’. The developers, across the span of the game, put her in some ridiculously sexualised outfits that actually harm the game’s plot. They are unnecessary, and fail to show a context that justifies their existence. Critics claim that Eve's physique and outfit are impractical for a soldier, raising doubts about her combat effectiveness in such a revealing suit. On the other hand, some players have appreciated her striking design. I wonder why?
#3: Lady Dimitrescu
“Resident Evil Village” (2021)
Referred to affectionately as “Lady D” (and don’t worry, I’m not gonna make that joke), Alcina Dimitrescu ruled Castle Dimitrescu and was one of the Four Lords of her region. Before the game had even officially released, Lady D instantly became a sensation, and I can easily come up with reasons why… At least two. Capcom seemingly designed her with specific appealing traits, elevating the concept of an attractive villain to new heights. Literally. The 9-foot-tall, dark-haired mistress with a god complex and insatiable bloodlust captured the internet’s attention, and once the internet is in love with you... Watch out. The term “Mommy Milkers” has never so casually been thrown around.
#2: Miranda
“Mass Effect 2” (2010)
Half way through this game, way back in 2010, I genuinely had to google whether it was directed by Hideo Kojima, because any chance we got, the camera had Miranda’s bum in the foreground, and the focus of the shot in the background. Once you’re saying “get that lady’s butt out of my face”, you’re probably showing her butt too much. Somewhat controversially, the legendary edition opted to remove some of these unnecessary shots, as they seemed to sexualise the character even in moments where sexual energy was devoid. Naturally, some freaks got upset by this, great work freaks. All that aside, the internet went into a frenzy for Miranda, with the majority of players choosing to romance her. Why the hell do they make space suits so sexy? How does anyone get anything done in space?
#1: Tifa Lockheart
“Final Fantasy VII Remake” & “Rebirth” (2020 & 2024)
The GOAT. There is absolutely no denying that the most commonly thirsted over character in gaming is Tifa from Final Fantasy VII. She’s a solid character in a party, brandishing her trademark fists to give enemies the beatdown of a lifetime. She’s a childhood friend of our protagonist, exemplifying the ‘girl-next-door’ fantasy. And in the least crude way I can possibly say this, her character model is CLEARLY designed by a man… A single man. Her redesign from original to Advent Children was controversially hated on, with fans claiming the addition of more clothes was censorship gone mad. Her redesign from Advent Children to Remake was controversially hated on, with fans claiming the addition of a sports bra and stockings was censorship gone mad. Her redesign in the flashbacks of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth were controversially hated on, with fans claiming the addition of a sports bra was censorship gone mad. When you’re arguing that giving a 15-year-old fictional character a sports bra is censorship gone mad, you should take a couple days off to get your head sorted. Overall, she is designed for the human gaze, rather than realistic practicality, and whether or not that bothers you is your business. Me? I’m gonna go back to writing about topics that scare me less. Ciao.
