From day one, Sean Spicer garnered controversy as the White House Press Secretary and acting White House Communications Director, like when he stated "Alternative Facts" on president Donald Trump’s inauguration crowd size. Controversy continued to mount throughout his career in the White House. In July of 2017, Spicer announced his imminent resignation from both positions, while Anthony Scaramucci was appointed the White House Director of Communications. Shortly thereafter, it was reported that Sean Spicer “vehemently disagreed” with the hiring of Scaramucci, which does not bode well for the transition.

#2: Scaramucci’s Past

Educated at Tufts and Harvard Universities, Scaramucci was a heavyweight in the financial market before his career in politics. Starting his career at Goldman Sachs, he later went on to found and manage two different investment firms, eventually selling both. He first got into politics during the 2016 Presidential Campaign, in which he originally endorsed Scott Walker, and then Jeb Bush. After his new position as White House Communications Director was announced in 2017, many were quick to point out Scaramucci’s past political views as being socially left-wing; in the past, he tweeted support for gun control, gay marriage, climate protection, abortion rights. He even criticized the president’s plan to build a wall on the US-Mexico barder. Since the announcement of his job in the White House however, Scaramucci has made an effort to delete these old tweets.

As the White House Communications Director, Scaramucci will report directly to President Trump, and be responsible for developing the White House’s message to the public, using a media campaign to keep the country informed. As a link between the White House and the American people, this job carries significant importance to any administration. Sean Spicer is set to hold the position and these responsibilities until August 2017 when Scaramucci is designated to take over. Without even being in office, Scaramucci was able to generate controversy within the first week of the announcement. On July 26, 2017, he gave an on-the-record profanity-laced interview to The New Yorker in which he railed against fellow senior White House staffers Reince Priebus and Steve Bannon. With never a dull moment in the Trump administration, only time will tell what’s next for The Mooch in the White House.
