VOICE OVER: Dan Paradis
With every hero character, to make an awesome video game you need to have an awesome villain. Be it from their absolutely insane motives, memorable performances, or long lasting notability. These are the guys you couldn't wait to get to the final battle to take down. Join http://www.watchmojo.com as we countdown our picks for the Top 10 Video Game Villains.

#10: Vaas Montenegro “Far Cry 3” (2012)

Also in:

Trevor Philips Vs Vaas Montenegro

Lets start things off with the only villain on this list that has, so far, only starred in just one game, yet left a big enough impression on us to make the list. A charismatic yet psychotic pirate, Vaas’ biggest strength comes from the fantastic performance by Michael Mando, and highlighted by this iconic monologue. (Did I ever tell you the definition of insanity)

#9: Dr. Albert W. Wily “Mega Man” series (1987-2010)

Also in:

Top 10 Long Running Video Game Villains

A scientist driven to madness over jealous towards his former colleague Dr. Light, Wily is best known for trying to take over the world with a team of robot masters, who are quickly bested by Mega Man. He usually then begs for his life saying he won’t do it again, and then he does it all over again. Never the less, the number of times he’s caused chaos throughout the years earns him the 9th spot.

#8: Shao Kahn “Mortal Kombat” series (1992-)

This 10,000 year old Emperor of the realm Outworld has been on an endless conquest to conquer and merge other realms with his, while also devouring the souls of innocent victims in order to live as long as he has. On the Battlefield Kahn is a behemoth, easily towering over any of his foes and is also strong enough to rip a human apart with his bare hands. And he’s a pretty distracting heckler during battle as well.

#7: Albert Wesker “Resident Evil” series (1996-)

Just to be clear THIS (show RE5 Wesker) is the real Albert Wesker, where as this (Show movie Wesker) Is some Agent Smith wannabe. Wesker had been slowly building his plan over the years, from luring his own elite team in a mansion to test the potency of Biological Weapons, and as the series progressed made himself superhuman and planned to turn all living things on the planet into Biological Monsters. Albert Wesker is true epitome of evil douchbags.

#6: Kane “Command and Conquer” series (1995-2010)

The main antagonist of the Tiberium saga, Kane is a man that somehow has lived hundreds of years yet doesn’t seem to age. Using his own twisted religious ideology after the arrival of a lethal alien element known as Tiberium, Kane uses this valuable mineral to build his army known as the Brotherhood of Nod, by taking advantage of less privileged nations and causing 3 world wars. It seems that every time around, his own Generals have questioned his motives, and as such they don’t tend to last long.

#5: Arthas “Warcraft” series (1994-)

Blizzard’s own version of Darth Vader, Arthas, Prince of Lorderan is first introduced in Warcraft 3 as a good guy, before being turned to the dark side, I mena, cursed by the blade Frostmorne, murdering his own father and becoming the Lich King. He makes a return in the World of Warcraft expansion “Wrath of the Lich King” and now has a few friends for you.

#4: Sephiroth

Sephiroth's Villain Origins | Final Fantasy VII

(Kefka’s laugh) Actually

#4: Kefka Palazzo “Final Fantasy VI” (1994)

Expecting Sephiroth? While he may look badass standing in a flaming inferno, if slightly effeminate, in terms of evil accomplishments however Kefka is leaps and bounds ahead of any other Final Fantasy villain. Lets see: he poisons an entire village just to enjoy hearing their screams, he commits genocide against an ancient race known as Espers, and most notably, he destroys an entire world and appoint himself as a god among the survivors.

#3: Bowser “Super Mario” series (1985-)

Also in:

Top 10 Bowser Battles

Mention the term video game villain to anyone, and its most likely this is the first guy they’ll think of. Sometimes referred to as King Koopa, he first appeared in Super Mario Bros where, according to the instruction manual, he can use dark magic to turn the citizens of the Mushroom Kingdom into Piranha plants, and floating bricks. You know those bricks that Mario breaks routinely … oh god what we done??

#2: GLaDOS “Portal” series (2007-)

If there’s one thing we’ve learned here at Watchmojo thanks to all the movie’s we’ve watched is that Self Aware A.I.’s will probably kill us. So, we should at least be thankful that GladOs delivers some hilariously snide lines to you as she leads to you towards the cake that never was. By the way apparently she’s also useful in launching giant robots thanks to a nice little cameo voice appearance in Pacific Rim. Before we get to the greatest villain of them all, lets have a look at some honorable mentions. Dr. Eggman - “Sonic the Hedgehog” series (1991) M. Bison - “Street Fighter” series (1987) Revolver Ocelot - “Metal Gear Solid” series (1998-) Illusive Man – “Mass Effect” series (2007-) Captain LeChuck “Monkey Island” series (1990-2010)

#1: Gannondorf “The Legend of Zelda” series (1987-)

Also sometimes referred to as Gannon, like Kefka Gannondorf takes the top spot thanks to his track record. In Ocarina of Time he murders the King of Hyrule and uses the Triforce of power to rule the Land with an iron fist: and that’s just for starters. In Twilight Princess he is sentenced to be executed by a sword through the chest … and survives. Oh and thanks to the Triforce of Power, he can and inevitably always does turn into a variety of powerful monsters. Do you agree with our list. Which Videogame villain left an impression on you?
