#10: Asking Elon Musk to Change Her Name on Twitter

Top 10 Most Unhinged Taylor Swift Moments

Elon Musk has made several interesting decisions since purchasing Twitter, like disallowing verified users from changing their names. One person who was greatly affected by this was Doja Cat– who’s known for constantly changing her moniker to random words or jokes. When Musk announced this change, her display name was set to “Christmas”, and naturally she didn’t like that at all. She tweeted, begging him to let her change it. He somehow saw, and fulfilled her request– only for her to ultimately swap it to “fart”. Fans loved that she flagged down the new owner and CEO just for this, and since then, she seems content with her new name.

#9: Reacting to People Mocking Her Sim

Fans of “The Sims” may be able to relate to this one. Like many people who enjoy the game, Doja excitedly posted her character to her Twitter, sharing it with her fans after her tonsil surgery. However, she didn’t get the reaction she likely expected. Some people were wondering why she chose basic options, and others mocked it for not looking exactly like her. Doja eventually tweeted that she would “never [share] her Sims again.” She almost immediately went back on this when she posted it again– this time, hyping up her own creation and playfully mocking everyone else's. It’s just one example of the artist always staying one step in front of the haters.

#8: Posting Voice Notes on Twitter

If there’s one thing Doja is known for, it’s her commitment to bits– even if people don’t always find them funny. Her repeated posting of voice notes on Twitter, for instance, has become a bit of a running gag. They’ll often be short, containing only a word or short phrase. Basically, you never really know what you’re going to get, but finding out is half the fun. Naturally, fans, especially those who appreciate her quirky jokes, find the shtick hilarious. Doja isn’t afraid to get serious either, though. She has notably used voice notes to call out those who’ve tried telling her how to react to online hate. And when paid verification was announced, she let her feelings be known!

#7: Hosting the 2021 VMAs

In 2021, Doja Cat was revealed to be the host of that year's VMAs. Given that the award show has a reputation for being over the top, expectations were high for the star — especially given her hilarious online persona. She not only met expectations though, she surpassed them. From her multiple campy outfits to her witty quips, she kept the audience entertained all night. And she did it all in true goofy, original Doja Cat fashion. The cherry on top was when she and SZA won the award for Best Collaboration for “Kiss Me More”. Needless to say, the night was a resounding success. We still can’t get over her iconic chair hat.

Most singers dream of one day winning a Grammy, and walking up on stage to give a big speech. Doja Cat earned that honor, but she came close to missing her big moment. In 2022, she and SZA were announced as the winners in the Best Pop Duo/Group Performance category. So imagine our confusion when only the latter initially took the stage. Doja ran on moments later, breaking the tension by explaining how it was the fastest she had ever been in the bathroom. Hey, when nature calls! Naturally, this caused the audience to erupt in laughter. Afterwards, she got back on track and gave a heartwarming speech. The moment showed that even while being unhinged, the star can demonstrate pure sincerity.

#5: Singing Nicki Minaj After Surgery

In 2022, Doja had a medical scare involving her tonsils, and ended up having to reschedule the rest of her summer performances. Her fans were nervous, especially when she revealed that she would have to undergo two surgeries. After her final procedure, she let her supporters know she was okay in unique fashion, with a video of her rapping Nicki Minaj’s verse in “Bottom’s Up”. It was silly in the best way, and completely on brand for her. It also automatically let her fanbase know that she was doing well after everything she had been through. Leave it to Doja Cat to make the best out of a rough situation!

#4: Feuding with Noah Schnapp

When Season 4 of “Stranger Things” premiered in May 2022, it took the world by storm. Like many, Doja Cat was a fan of the series– and of Joseph Quinn, aka Eddie Munson. She liked him so much that she wanted to talk to him– and she ended up going about it in the wildest way. She sent a message to Noah Schnapp– who plays Will Byers– and asked him to set her and Quinn up. Schnapp posted the screenshots, which prompted Doja to call him out. She immediately received backlash from his fans, who accused her of attacking a teenager. Schnapp ended up diffusing the situation on TikTok. Thankfully, the two stars seem to be on better terms now.

#3: Writing a Song About Taco Bell’s Mexican Pizza

Sometimes, brand partnerships can come across as out of touch. So when Taco Bell hired Doja Cat to write a song about their Mexican Pizza returning to the menu, consumers were interested to see how it would turn out. Doja shared a glimpse at the behind the scenes process on Instagram live, and her fans loved how deadpan she seemed about the whole thing. The final result was a surprisingly catchy verse, with a hilarious beat that sampled the Taco Bell bell. It was all wonderfully tongue-in-cheek, and viewers loved that Doja wasn’t afraid to poke fun at the chain. The star has even joked that she’s the reason the item was brought back, and if that’s true, we can’t thank her enough.

#2: Performing a Medieval Version of “The Box”

During the first phase of the pandemic in 2020, many people went stir crazy from being inside for so long. Even Doja Cat wasn’t immune to the boredom that came with lockdowns. In April 2020, she recited a medieval version of Roddy Ricch’s hit song, “The Box”, dressing for the occasion too. The singer spoke with old-timey inflection, and even put on an English accent. Fans were impressed by her level of commitment. Of course, some also had questions for her – notably wondering where she even got a suit of chainmail in the first place. The video perfectly sums up Doja’s unhinged comedic side, and made people feel a little better during an incredibly stressful time.

#1: Releasing “Mooo!”

This perfectly odd comedy song helped put Doja Cat on the map. Upon release in 2018, it went viral for its silly lyrics and music video. Listeners also noticed that underneath the humor was genuine talent. Doja was able to use the success of this track to propel her career to new heights and break into the mainstream. Not to mention it was the perfect introduction to her sense of humor. While she has branched out from novelty songs, her iconic quirkiness is still present in her current work. And sure, she may not dress as a cow anymore, but her fans are endlessly proud of how far she’s come.
