Sometimes you have to sing in the rain and . . . dance in the sprinklers. Gabriella and Troy are trying to have a romantic picnic when Sharpay and Ryan come along to ruin their day. They purposely set off the sprinklers, expecting G ‘n’ T to run for the hills and abandon their date, but instead they have a jolly good time. The pair adorably run, skip, and dance together as they get soaked from head to toe. Unfortunately, the picnic does get them in trouble with Mr. Fulton, but it was nice while it lasted.

Throughout all three movies, Troy struggles with a few big decisions, such as which university to attend, and whether to pursue basketball or singing. All the while, he considers how his decisions will affect his relationship with Gabriella, his friends, and his parents. It’s all a tense time, but at graduation he lets everyone know that he didn’t have to choose. Troy can have it all! He can do basketball and theater at the University of California, which is exactly 32.7 miles from Gabriella. We’ll call that a win-win with a side of awwwwwwww.

Troy gifted Gabriella a necklace, and a promise, when she needed it the most. On the last day of school, she’s a little stressed about getting a job, so Troy whips out the ‘T’ necklace. It stands for “Troy”, but it’s also a symbol of their relationship. Gabriella rarely takes it off and in the hard times, it makes her feel safe and gives Troy confidence. There is nothing more comforting than a constant reminder that you are loved. You better believe that girls everywhere were wearing similar necklaces after the movie came out, some even identical to the one in the movie.

Every couple needs a little quiet getaway, so Troy introduces Gabriella to his secret garden. It is the one place he can be himself and, most importantly, be himself around Gabriella. When Gabriella gets to the rooftop of the school she finds blue skies, chirping birds, and flowers. He opens up about the pressures of being known as the ‘basketball guy,’ something he’s never told anyone. It’s an honest and raw moment between them in the one place where high school drama can’t follow them.

Top 10 Best High School Musical Duets

This moment is a little bittersweet since it’s one of the last production numbers in the final movie. Even though it means saying goodbye to all the characters, and of course Troyella, all good things must come to an end. The energy in the room is electric and you can really feel the love. There are just so many cute moments rolled into one song, like Troy giving Gabriella roses with a little forehead kiss! The crowd is also super-into the performance and we’re kind of jealous we couldn’t be a part of it.

Let’s go back to the secret garden, because it really is a magical place. Troy uses their special place to prompose to Gabriella and then they go into this adorable moment. Gabriella is teaching Troy how to waltz and it’s safe to say that he’s a natural. There are a ton of lifts in the dance, and a particularly adorable twirl once the rain starts. There is just something about rain that makes moment extra whimsical and romantic. Troyella are in a clear state of bliss in this scene and it’s hard to watch it without smiling.

#3: Auditioning “High School Musical” (2006)

Singing in public is scary, very scary. Troy and Gabriella were scared to audition for the school musical, so it’s a very spontaneous and last-minute decision. So last minute, in fact, that Ms. Darbus tells them that they’re too late. They sing anyway and give us this beautiful moment. They are so good that Ms. Darbus gives them a callback where they perform “Breaking Free.” The callback is as dramatic as the audition but they both get there, no thanks to Sharpay. Gabriella is very nervous at first, but Troy gives her the confidence she needs. Just look at the way they blossom on that stage!

We had to wait until the end of the second movie to see Troy and Gabriella’s first kiss, but it’s worth the wait. The lateness of the kiss wasn’t for lack of trying, though. They tried a few times, but were constantly interrupted by sprinklers, classmates, and even Troy’s bad attitude. Luckily, they work things out and finally get that first kiss. In true Disney fashion, the moment is absolutely magical, with a starlit golf course, and floating lanterns are released when their lips meet. There were actually 500 lanterns bought for this scene! Of course, our number one spot had to go to the moment that started it all: the moment Troy and Gabriella first met and the first time they sang together! What a journey it’s taken us on!
