#10: When Jessica Simpson Was Confused About Tuna

A blunder over two decades old continues to haunt the pop star to this day. It happened during an episode of her reality show “Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica” with her then-beau Nick Lachey. Simpson was enjoying a delicious helping of tuna from the brand Chicken of the Sea when she suddenly asked whether the tuna she was eating was chicken or fish. It seemed to be a confusion that arose from the name of the brand, but the “Irresistible” singer seemed genuinely puzzled by the ‘chicken of the sea’ analogy. Nick explained it to her eventually, but she probably knew she wasn’t going to live this down. Years later, the “Blonde Ambition” actress partnered with Chicken of the Sea for a commercial. What an icon!

#9: When Kim Kardashian’s 2025 Forecast Missed the Mark

Back in 2015, the Skims co-founder shared her predictions for the future in a Glamour interview. However, her vision for her family didn’t end up matching their reality. Speaking of Khloé, Kim hoped she’d find her fairytale happy ending in the romance department. However, following her tumultuous relationship with Tristan Thompson, with whom she shares two children, KoKo has reportedly been single. Kim’s prediction about Kourtney putting her childbearing days behind her might be wrong, too. Per sources, Kourt, who has three kids with Scott Disick and one with husband Travis Barker, wants more bundles of joy in her life. Clearly, foresight isn’t Kim’s strongest suit. This became clear again when she told Variety women in business weren’t working enough – without anticipating the inevitable backlash (xref).

#8: Oprah’s Microsoft Mishap

This media mogul is an OG influencer. Her yearly “Favorite Things” segment on “The Oprah Winfrey Show” was not only popular among fans but also helped promote businesses, both big and small. The list was even parodied on “SNL” and continues to be published on Oprah Daily, proving its enduring relevance. However, we can’t help but recall that one time a social media gaffe made people low-key question the authenticity of her recommendations. In 2012, “The Color Purple” actress shared her love for the Microsoft Surface tablet on X, then known as Twitter. However, her post revealed that she had used her iPad to tweet it! Of course, this didn’t necessarily change how she seemingly felt about the Microsoft device, but the discrepancy was hilarious.

#7: When Rita Ora Got Hacked ... Or Did She?

Remember in 2014, when “The Masked Singer UK” judge seemingly sent out a post on then-Twitter, claiming she would release new music if her tweet hit a hundred thousand retweets? Soon after the announcement was made, the tweet was deleted. At the time, netizens believed that Rita backtracked because her post wasn’t getting the engagement she anticipated. The “Let You Love Me” singer later explained that her X account had been hacked, and that the promise of new music was not made by her, but by the hacker. While we have no way of actually proving that Rita lied about this, most people didn’t buy the supposed excuse.

#6: Hilaria Baldwin’s Background

She’s a yoga expert and a podcaster with a brief Emmy-winning stint on “Extra”, but she’s best known as Alec Baldwin’s wife. Throughout her time in the public eye, Hilaria Baldwin has seemingly been mistaken for having Spanish heritage. There have been reported instances of her speaking with a Spanish accent and being vague about her birthplace. Turns out, Hilaria was born Hillary Lynn Hayward-Thomas in Boston, Massachusetts, and has no Spanish roots. This led to accusations of cultural appropriation on social media, when an X user said she, quote, ‘impersonates a Spanish person’. In response, Hilaria claimed she spent part of her childhood in Spain and grew up around Spanish culture. Needless to say, netizens weren’t too impressed by the justification.

#5: When Chris Cuomo Got Fooled by a Deepfake

In August 2025, the NewsNation anchor was misled by an AI-generated video of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. The clip showed her calling out an American Eagle ad starring Sydney Sweeney as racist on the Congress floor. Without taking a second to check the facts, Cuomo rushed to X to criticize the Congresswoman for ignoring real issues and focusing on, quote, ‘culture wars’ in Congress. AOC was quick to point out that the journalist was raging over a fake video. Piers Morgan chimed in, too, dragging Cuomo for his mistake. The “Good Morning America” alum had no choice but to acknowledge his error.

#4: Kendall Jenner’s Cucumber Struggle

In 2022, Kenny went viral for an episode of “The Kardashians”. In it, she was seen cutting a cucumber, but her technique was … questionable, to say the least. Although she claimed it was, quote, ‘pretty easy’ to chop up the vegetable, she was visibly struggling with it while her mother, Kris Jenner, cheered her on. Kendall did manage to cut it, but her convoluted process revealed her shocking lack of basic culinary skills. Viewers teased the supermodel endlessly for it, but she later told WSJ that she got the job done ‘tastefully’.

#3: Fergie’s National Anthem Controversy

Singing “The Star-Spangled Banner” at an NBA All-Star Game is a huge honor. Unfortunately, when Fergie had the opportunity to do so in 2018, she made a major creative faux pas. Her rendition of the national anthem featured breathy jazz vocals, but it failed to resonate with the audience. The NBA’s very own Draymond Green and Stephen Curry could barely hide their grins during the performance. The criticism continued on social media, forcing the former Black Eyed Peas songstress to respond. She claimed she wanted to try something special, but the risk did not pay off because her delivery, quote, ‘didn't strike the intended tone’.

#2: Paris Hilton’s Incriminating Purse

The millionaire businesswoman has lived quite the wild life. In 2010, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department arrested her after she was suspected of carrying an illegal substance in her purse. She reportedly claimed the purse was borrowed, and that she thought the substance was actually gum. Her argument crumbled when it was discovered that the socialite had previously posted a photo of a similar Chanel purse on social media, gushing over how much she loved her new possession. While Hilton did not serve time, she got a year of probation, had to pay a hefty fine, get treatment for substance use disorder, and complete two hundred hours of community service.

#1: John Travolta’s Award Show Flub

The 2014 Oscars was easily one of the most iconic installments of the prestigious award ceremony, and not just because of host Ellen DeGeneres’s star-studded selfie. During John Travolta’s introduction of Idina Menzel before her performance of "Let It Go" from “Frozen”, he mispronounced her name, calling her ‘Adele Dazeem’. The “Grease” star later explained that the mistake happened because Idina’s name was spelled phonetically, which confused him. The Queen of Broadway went on to call the incident, quote, ‘one of the best things that’s happened’ in her career. Come 2015, Travolta reunited with Menzel to present the Oscar for Best Original Song, and she introduced him as ‘Glom Gazingo’. The “Pulp Fiction” actor endearingly said he deserved it.
