Toilet Racism
Sometimes, when a celebrity says something racist on a TV show, others on screen dont pick them up on it. Unfortunately for Kelly Osbourne, that didnt happen for her in 2015 on The View. As the group was discussing Donald Trumps immigration policy as he rose in polls, Osbourne chimed in with a tone-deaf comment she likely thought would inspire an applause break. Immediately, her co-hosts called her out, causing Osbourne to frantically backtrack. The outrage from viewers was just as intense as she was forced to apologise publicly. In 2024, when looking back at the incident, Osbourne regretted her comments, calling it the worst thing shes ever done.

Cardboard Minion
Kim Kardashian is well known for being over-the-top when it comes to her excessive lifestyle. Even so, no one was expecting her to admit to one bizarre habit during her appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! in 2024. The host asked Kardashian about a variety of rumors, including that she has someone else remove the cardboard sleeve from her Starbucks order, which she confirmed. Apparently, Kardashian despises the feel and sound of taking it off, comparing it to nails on a chalkboard. So, she hands it to whoever shes with to dispose of it for her. Apparently, it doesnt extend to all cardboard, just the coffee sleeves.

Space Sing-a-Long
In 2025, the Blue Origin NS-31 mission, a trip involving several celebrity women, took off into spacefor 11 minutes. While this may have seemed like a milestone for them, it wasnt celebrated by more down-to-earth types. The trip was already criticized for cringey content in the run-up, the expense of it when most people are struggling financially, and damaging the environment, resulting in it not being well-received by the public and even other celebrities. It got worse when footage came out of Katy Perry singing Its a Wonderful World in space, showing her setlist for her tour, and treating the experience as a pivotal moment in human history. With all the backlash, Perry responded that she regretted the public spectacle of the mission.

Quarantine Jail
2020 was a rough year. After all, the COVID-19 pandemic forced many to remain stuck in their homes during lockdowns and unable to see family and friends in person. But fear not, celebrities were there to remind everyone that they have it worse than we do. While filming an episode of The Ellen DeGeneres Show at her abode, the host made a thoughtless joke that enraged viewers already frustrated by everything. DeGeneres compared being in lockdown in her home to being in jail. Yikes. People were livid that she was making such a comparison as she sat inside her large estate. Others pointed out that the virus was running rampant through prisons, making the comment even more distasteful.

Tribute to Herself
In 2018, we sadly lost the great Aretha Franklin. In memory of the Queen of Soul, from one music monarch to another, the MTV Video Music Awards had the Queen of Pop, Madonna, do a tribute to Franklin as she presented the Video of the Year award. However, instead of providing a moving speech about the legend, Madonna decided she would focus on her own music career and accomplishments, barely touching upon Franklins life. With all the backlash involving accusations that Madonna had given a self-indulgent speech, she responded that her words weren't even meant to be a tribute. Instead, she claimed she was asked to provide an anecdote about Franklin.

The Most Hardship Award
When you think of people whove lived hard lives and kept pushing back, Paris Hilton isnt a person who springs to mind. However, for her, no one has had it tougher. Appearing as a guest alongside her mom, Kathy, on Piers Morgan Live in 2011, the host asked her questions about her controversies, including the release of her intimate video and media scrutiny, which is a terrible situation to be in. However, after mentioning her thick skin, this sparked Hilton to state the phrase, Everything bad that can happen to a person has happened to me. Understandably, people who werent multi-millionaires and hadnt grown up in wealth like Hilton werent exactly feeling sympathetic.

Gay Pop
In 2024, JoJo Siwa went from a child-friendly, colorful hair bow-wearing performer to a sparkly glam-goth rebrand, which was largely mocked. While chatting with Billboard, she commented that when she was talking with her record label, she told them she wanted to create a new genre of music, gay pop. People were livid at the implication that Siwa was seemingly alluding to being the first LGBTQIA+ person in pop music. They also pointed out the history of LGBTQIA+ musicians such as Elton John, Freddie Mercury, and Tegan and Sara. Due to the backlash, Siwa claimed she meant she wanted gay pop to be an official genre of music, and she desired to be its Chief Marketing Officer.

Having a Hard Time
In 2007, actor Whoopi Goldberg joined the talk show The View. In 2016, she extended her contract that was reportedly worth up to $6 million, on top of having had a high-paying Hollywood career. So, when she compared her financial stability to those with a lower income, it didnt land well. In 2024, The View panel was discussing the theory that working-class voters chose Donald Trump for US President due to struggling financially. Goldberg proclaimed she understood that people were having a hard time, as she was too. After all, she doesnt have all the money in the world, so she has to work on The View. Understandably, viewers were baffled by the grossly out-of-touch statement.

Writer Blame
You know what makes employees feel super good? When their wealthy boss chucks them under the bus in a public setting(!) Well, for writers who helped devise Jo Koys opening monologue at the 2024 81st Golden Globe Awards, thats what happened. After bombing with one awkward and outdated joke after another, gathering groans from the audience, Koy needed to save himself. As well as mentioning only getting the hosting job 10 days before, he uttered that he only wrote some of the jokes. After a brief rant, he went further and claimed the ones people were laughing at were devised by him. Yikes. With all the backlash to that comment, Koy apologized to his writers publicly.

Pseudo-Psychiatry
Tom Cruise has had plenty of interviews that havent made him look great. But his one in 2005 with Matt Lauer on "Today" wouldve likely destroyed anyone elses career. The host questioned Cruise on his previous criticism of Brooke Shields for taking antidepressants to combat postpartum depression. So, Cruise stated his belief that psychiatry is a pseudoscience, despite the evidence to the contrary and the lives saved by it and other similar treatments. Cruise went further by essentially comparing psychiatric medicine to illegal substances and claiming a chemical imbalance in the brain doesnt exist. This, mixed with other erratic behaviors, saw Steven Spielberg fall out with Cruise for many years, and caused Paramount to split with the star for a while.
