Be afraid, be very afraid! Welcome to WatchMojo and today we are counting down our picks for the Top 10 Times Anime Girls Snapped.
For this list, we’ll be looking at the scenes where the ladies of anime reached their limits before suffering a complete meltdown, often with deadly consequences for those in the immediate vicinity.
#10: Frankenstein
“Fate/Apocrypha” (2017)
Granted, she’s a million times more appealing than any other rendition of this iconic monster in media, but that doesn’t take away from the fact that this particular Servant is still a being of great tragedy and suffering. Nowhere is this better portrayed than when Shakespeare comes along, busts out his Noble Phantasm, and gives her a painful reminder of her creation. This flashback proves to be too much for the Berserker of Black to bear, sending her into a complete frenzy. You heartless fiends, she just wanted somebody to love!
#9: Yomi Takanashi
“Black Rock Shooter” (2012)
Nothing breeds hate, rage and otherworldly personas quite like high school. In this instance, the well-meaning but self-esteemed stricken Yomi feels like she’s losing the one friend she’s ever had, what with high school life changing up their dynamics. Throw in teen drama and a sudden case of memory loss, and its not long before Yomi believes that her bestie has all but abandoned her. In her despair and loneliness, she ends up unleashing the Dead Master upon the other world. Maybe she should have just set up a blog…
#8: Derieri
“The Seven Deadly Sins: Revival of the Commandments” (2018)
Turns out that even high-ranking demons have trauma. While known for her violent persuasion and killer right hook, this member of the Ten Commandments has another defining characteristic – a major hate boner for all things goddess. Evident from when one was summoned to the battlefield in order to aid the kingdom’s forces. Despite trying to get the hell out of there, Derieri wasn’t about to let her get off scot-free given the atrocities committed to her kin during the ancient war. Que one dead featherhead.
#7: Mugino Shizuri
“A Certain Magical Index III” (2018-19)
We’re guessing that the members of ITEM are going to need a rapid change of staff, because this bitch is crazy! While she had always been driven by desire to claim victory over her foes, Shizuri’s mental state proved to be far more fragile than any had anticipated. Following the betrayal of her team mate Frenda, the top tier esper goes full on psycho, ripping her teammate Frenda in two with her Meltdowner ability. But that’s not the worst of it as she constantly tries to hunt down Hamazura and Rikou afterwards, falling more and more into insanity every time he defeats her.
#6: Zero Two
“Darling in the Franxx” (2018)
Never get between this beastly beauty and her man meat. Becoming more and more unraveled due to her strained relationship with Hiro, along with the Klaxosaur blood in her veins, Zero Two went full on feral when Ichigo and the other members of Squad 13 initially prevented her from seeing her precious darling. By the time they finally relented, Hiro had already jumped ship, which caused his wifey to go off the deep end, accusing the others of being neglectful, and proceeded to lay one hell of a beatdown on all involved. Um…yay for team spirit?
#5: Mio Naganohara
“Nichijou” (2011)
Let this be a lesson to all of you. Never try and look at the contents of Mio’s bag, otherwise you might just find yourself body slammed so hard your soul leaves your body. After a police officer suspects the young student of carrying around counterfeit bills, a sudden search reveals that Mio isn’t packing anything illegal, just some hardcore yaoi of her own making. Honestly though, the contraband may have been kinder, since Mio ends up dispatching anyone who takes even a gander at her gathering of yaoi.
#4: Itsuki Sumeragi
“Kakegurui” (2017)
One of Yumeko’s few allies and something of a spoiled princess with a fetish for fingernails, Sumeragi really came into her own when she assisted her crazy friend take on the richest member of the School Council in a modified game of poker. With Manyuda’s wealth toppling that of Yumeko’s, it falls to Sumeragi to risk her family’s fortune in order to keep her friend in the game. Eventually deciding to take the plunge, she not only raised the wager, but also declared she was far stronger than Manyuda gave her credit for…by ripping her own nails out. Ouch.
#3: Nina Einstein
“Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion” (2006-08)
We all react to grief in our own way, but planning to blow up a school because a princess you had a one sided crush on died seems a bit extreme. With a fierce infatuation towards Princess Euphemia, to the point where she left many unfortunate table-corners defiled, Nina didn’t take her death at the hands of Zero all too well. Along with her now iconic crazy face, Nina ended up wiping out a lot of people all in the name of revenge thanks to her invention. The thirst was strong with this one.
#2: Ryūgū Rena
“When They Cry” (2006)
Whether its due to the town’s curse, contrasting timelines or just because she’s going through puberty, Rena managed to take home the crown for biggest psycho of the series. Given how she shared the stage with other ladies who had de-nailed each other and thrown their own skull onto a knife, that’s damn impressive. With her trusty cleaver in hand, Rena decided to show her crush just how much she adored him…by nearly butchering him on the spot. Daylight murder has never looked so adorable.
#1: Sayaka Miki
“Puella Magi Madoka Magica” (2011)
Buckle up, because you’re about to see a teenage girl go on a journey filled with so much misery and self-hatred that her soul ended up literally shattering. Because what else do you expect from the Urobutcher? After agreeing to become a magical girl in exchange for healing the boy of her dreams, things started to go very wrong for Sayaka. She was turned into a husk, the boy she liked ended up going out with her ditzy classmate, and her whole life eventually became nothing more than a carousel of death. Just to top it all off, her grief soon overpowered her soul, transforming her into a witch destined to be destroyed by her own friends.
