For this list, we’ll be giving you a quick recap on the most vital moments from season three to get you up to scratch before My Hero Academia returns this October. Hold onto your sticky grapes!

#10: All Might’s Retirement

It’s the end of an era. Following his climactic battle against his old nemesis All for One, All Might finds himself forced to hang up his cape when his Quirk is all but spent. As you can imagine, this has huge ramifications for society as a whole. Not only do villains feel emboldened and start to come out of the woodwork, but it also falls to the new generation, namely Midoriya, to step out of his mentor’s shadow and take up the mantle of the World’s Greatest Hero.

#9: Todoroki and Bakugo Fail

Character growth sometimes includes failure, as was the case for these two when it came to the Provisional Hero License Exams. In spite of their overwhelming power and the fact they were the golden boys of the Sports Festival, Bakugo and Todoroki’s confrontational attitudes ended up doing them a disservice, to the point where they ended up being the only two from class 1-A that failed the exam. It’s a humbling moment for them, especially when you think about how even Mineta managed to pass. That’s got to sting.

#8: Shoot Style

As Deku’s body slowly becomes accustomed to the overwhelming strength of One for All, he also made a realization that perhaps he was mimicking his idol a little too much. With some cryptic encouragement from All Might and some gadgetry from Hatsume, Deku was able to take the first step in making his inherited Quirk all his own – namely by focusing on his legs instead of his fists. Not only did this radically increase his speed and agility, but now he’s able to avoid turning his arms into sawdust. Win-win, mate.

#7: Boss Shigaraki

Deku and Class 1-A weren’t the only ones who went through some growing pains last season. With All for One behind bars, it fell to his unbalanced apprentice to take the reigns of the League of Villains. Given how he’s got a loyal crew of psychos like Dabi, Twice and Toga following his every order, we can expect to see the Decay user start to make real strides as a straight up grizzly supervillain going forward. Hey, maybe he can finally win a bloody fight for a change – my dude’s win-loss ratio is looking ghastly.

#6: Endeavour: The New Number One

Given how All Might stood tall as the number one ranked hero for years, it only makes sense that following his departure, it falls to the current number two hero to step up and protect the world in his stead. Only one problem. The number two just so happened to be Todoroki’s loathsome father Endeavour. You’d think he’d be over the moon about this, after all, his whole goal in life revolved around dethroning All Might… after all, he was not above using his wife and children as tools. However, with his hated rival out of the picture way earlier than expected, Endeavour’s whole world has come crashing down. Careful what you wish for.

#5: Hero Work Studies

With the world becoming a much more dangerous place, U.A High has no choice but to fast track their students on the way to becoming pro-heroes. As such, Class 1-A find themselves facing a second internship. Essentially, Hero Work Studies allows a student to become something of a temporary sidekick to an active hero. Compared to their previous ventures, this is likely going to be much more hardcore. We can only imagine what life lessons are going to come their way as they become further immersed in hero society as a whole.

#4: Bakugo Knows About One for All

Top 10 My Hero Academia Fights (Ft. The Voice of Bakugo, Clifford Chapin!)

It’s fair to say that season three arguably belonged to Bakugo in terms of development and emotional arcs. I mean, he’s still a complete dick but I digress. Following his rescue at the hands of Kirishima and the rest, King Explosion Murder was able to deduce that Midoriya and All Might’s powers might be one and the same. This led to the now iconic second brawl between Deku and Kacchan, where both rivals went all out to show just how far they had come since their days of playing bully and victim. While still just as aggressive as ever, there’s certainly been a shift in Bakugo’s perspective. Basically, he’s ten percent less of a dick now. Progress!

#3: The Big Three

Every Midoriya Fight Ranked (My Hero Academia)

We spend so much time with Class 1-A, its easy to forget that there are more than just the first years attending U.A High. On the cusp of graduation and standing at the pinnacle as U.A’s strongest, are these three. Sure, some are more awkward than others, but it quickly becomes clear that each of their experiences has made them as strong as an entire classroom full of newbie heroes. This is especially true of Mirio (XRef). Despite having a rather meek Quirk, the upcoming star of Season 4 proved that it’s not about the power, it’s about the person – hence why he was able to whoop Class 1-A with zero difficulty! Could this be the next Top hero?

#2: All Might’s Sidekick

Also in:

Top 10 My Hero Academia Quirks

Yeah, you heard us. All Might had a sidekick. Only one, a very long time ago, but he still existed. While we’ve seen very little of the slender, freakishly tall, time efficient hero known as Nighteye, it’s clear that he is far removed from the smiling face of justice that All Might projects himself as, coming across as a rather calculating and one who would rather cut to the chase. Three things we know for sure – he’s the one who trained Mirio, he’s hot on the trail of Overhaul, and he’s about to become a prominent figure in Deku’s hero career!

#1: Overhaul

New season, new villain. Much like Nighteye we’ve seen very little of this homicidal vulture, though it’s pretty clear that he’s far removed from your average thug. With a team of similarly minded masked killers under his command, Overhaul made one hell of a first impression when he slaughtered a group of C-Grade villains, criticizing them for not dreaming bigger and making use of the sordid change in the superhero landscape. Considering Shigaraki regards this guy as a threat to the League of Villains, you know he means business!
