Top 10 Awesome Superhero Pets

Welcome to MsMojo, and today were counting down our picks for the most loyal, powerful creature companions from comics, animation, and live action superhero media.
#10: Jumpa
Wonder Woman is a well-known and loved superhero, but not everyone knows that she has a pet, let alone a large alien. Jumpa is a Kanga, an alien species on Themyscira that resembles a kangaroo. She arrived in 1942s Sensation Comics #6, equipped with enhanced senses, durability, and the ability to leap from one planet to another. While Jumpa has mostly been in the comics, she made the jump from page to screen in the DC Super Hero Girls web series. With a new live-action Wonder Woman and the Paradise Lost series on the horizon, maybe well finally get to see Diana with her hopping companion!
#9: Bud & Lou
Harley Quinn started out as a villainess, but over the years, shes evolved into an anti-hero, meaning her loyal babies earn a spot on this list. Named after legendary comedians Bud Abbott and Lou Costello, this pair of spotted hyenas first showed up onscreen in an episode of Batman: The Animated Series. Both Harley and the Joker have owned them, but Bud and Lou clearly favor the loving, nurturing Harley. Much like their owner, these two are often laughing maniacally, and while they dont have any superpowers, they still strike plenty of fear as vicious, teeth-baring hyenas ready to attack. We didnt see this duo in 2020s Birds of Prey, but Harley adopted another cuddly, cackling hyena and named him Bruce.
#8: Eagly
If theres one thing we know about superhero pets its that they dont always have the most creative names. Enter Eagly the you guessed it eagle, the winged pal of Peacemaker, aka Christopher Smith, and one of the newest pets to join the DCU. The trained bald eagle is a skilled hunter, regularly presenting various dead animals to his human, and is always there to lend a talon. He attacks anyone posing a threat to Peacemaker, though he does have his unhelpful moments. Perhaps Eaglys most memorable and admired ability is giving hugs, something wed love all pets to do, right? That feathered embrace is just too sweet for words.
#7: Goose
Goose may look like an orange tabby, but the pet of Carol Danvers, aka Captain Marvel, is no ordinary feline. Shes a Flerken, an alien species that has access to the pocket dimensions inside of them where their massive tentacles are located. In the comics, Danvers had a Flerken named Chewbacca or Chewie. But in the MCUs Captain Marvel, Goose got her name from Top Gun. The cat is also responsible for scratching Nick Furys left eye, though he forgave her and was even her owner at one time. She had a massive litter of Flerkittens in The Marvels, who proved not only adorable but useful when transporting agents via their terrifying tentacles.
#6: Redwing
MCU audiences know Redwing as a Stark Industries-designed drone used by Sam Wilson, aka Falcon, aka the current Captain America, who sometimes treats it as a pet. However, in the comics, Sam owned an actual American Kestrel falcon with red feathers. Redwing has a telepathic connection to Sam, making it possible for them to communicate without speaking, which is ideal when the pair have to be extra stealthy. Like its aerial drone counterpart, Sam uses Redwing for surveillance, reconnaissance, and combat. Stark tech is pretty awesome, but being psychically linked to a real avian sidekick? Thats a bond even the most formidable foes cant break.
#5: Lockjaw
While theres more than one dog on this list, Lockjaw is by far the biggest. The giant bulldog is a faithful protector and beloved member of the Inhuman Royal Family with immense strength and an antenna on his forehead like Black Bolt, allowing the two to join and maximize their powers. His most used power is teleportation, taking the Inhumans and other mutant pals wherever they need to go, even to other dimensions. Lockjaw tends to stay by Crystals side, though he has a comics history with other heroes like the Fantastic Four and Kamala Khan, aka Ms. Marvel. Hes a reliable friend and incredibly convenient means of transportation but above all, hes just a good boy who loves his family.
#4: Old Lace
The idea of having a dinosaur for a pet is as scary as it is thrilling. Just ask Gertrude Yorkes aka Arsenic, a member of Marvels Runaways. The genetically-engineered Deinonychus was created by the Yorkes, which Gertrude and her fellow runaways discovered in their lab. Gertrude is highly intelligent but doesnt have any superpowers. Thats where Old Lace comes in. Who needs powers when youre telepathically linked to a dinosaur? The close pair can literally feel each others emotions, communicate, share thoughts, and even experience physical pain. Old Laces unconditional love and loyalty make her a fantastic companion whos always there when needed, especially taking down the Runways evil parents. The nose ring is pretty rad, too.
#3: Lockheed
If you think a dinosaur is the wildest pet a superhero could have, think again. X-Mens Kitty Pryde, aka Shadowcat, is the proud owner of a purple dragon-like alien. First appearing in 1983s Uncanny X-Men #166, Lockheed has primarily existed in comics as a part of several super teams, including Excalibur and the Pet Avengers. Dont let his small size fool you; hes highly intelligent, multilingual, empathic, and breathes fire. And while its not every fans favorite depiction of the dragon, weve seen Lockheed on the big screen in The New Mutants as the purple pal of Illyana Rasputin, aka Magik. Hes a sock puppet most of the time, but it was still awesome to see him in action.
#2: Ace
As weve seen in almost every version of Batman, the hero works closely with the Bat Family Alfred, Batgirl, and the many Robins. In some iterations, the Dark Knight also has a canine partner in crime-fighting at his side. Ace the Bat-Hound debuted in 1955s Batman #92 as a German Shepherd. However, he sometimes appears as a different breed like a Great Dane mix in Batman Beyond. In DC League of Super-Pets, the loyal pooch is a Boxer mix who gets super strength and invulnerability from orange kryptonite, though most of the time hes without superpowers like his owner. But what they lack in laser eyes they make up for in investigative skills and high-tech gadgets.

#1: Krypto
Its no surprise that our number one superhero pet is the top dog of the DC Universe. Before he was Superman or donned his Clark Kent identity, Kal-El was a baby Kryptonian sent to Earth. His loyal pup Krypto, often depicted as a Labrador-like canine with white fur, also made it to Earth. He has all of the same powers as his best friend, including super strength, invulnerability, x-ray vision, and flight. He also shares Supermans one weakness kryptonite. Krypto is a natural leader and has been a member of different groups, including the Legion of Super-Pets working with Streaky the Super-Cat, Beppo the Super-Monkey, and Comet the Superhorse. But his best friend forever will always be Superman.
