Becoming a household name at a young age can be a lot to handle, and Bieber has noticeably struggled to cope with the pressure over the years. He’s successfully angered quite a few countries with his antics, which include: failing to provide the correct documents for his pet monkey, leaving thoughtless remarks at the Anne Frank House, and allegedly painting graffiti in Brazil. Bieber won’t be visiting Argentina until a few things are cleared up. He first angered the country by brushing their flag off the stage with his foot. He then failed to appear in Argentinian court after his bodyguard allegedly assaulted a photographer. He’s been informed that he’ll be arrested should he return.

The Queen of Pop is no stranger to controversy. In 2004, the Egyptian parliament called to have her banned after she visited Israel and encouraged others to do so. More recently, she was nearly banned from the Phillipines after dancing with their flag in 2016. But possibly her biggest controversy came in 1989, when she released the song “Like a Prayer,” the video for which depicted Madonna witnessing a murder by the KKK and hiding in a catholic church. While the song was a hit, the Vatican openly condemned the video for displaying sexually provocative acts in a church. The Pope himself banned her from making appearances in Italy, although this was never upheld by local authorities.

You might be asking yourself, how could anyone want to ban Beyoncé? All she does is stun people with her incredible voice and unforgettable dance moves. Well, the latter is actually the reason why she cannot perform in Malaysia. Malaysia is a predominantly Muslim country, and Beyoncé’s dance moves are considered to be too provocative. Her wardrobe is also a problem, as most of her costumes are too revealing for local tastes. To perform there she would have to wear an outfit that covers the majority of her body and doesn’t display cleavage. She would also have to tone the sexual dancing way down. Queen B is not one to compromise her performance however, and so she is unwelcome.

This flamboyant chameleon and lead singer of Culture Club has earned himself a fair amount of bad karma over the years. In 2008, he was charged with assault after having handcuffed and beat a male escort in East London, earning himself a 15-month prison sentence. Two years earlier, falsely reporting a burglary led to him being forced to do community service in New York City. This incident, coupled with his colorful criminal record back home, resulted in him being denied entrance into the United States. Fortunately for Culture Club fans, he was able to enter the U.S. again in 2014, effectively ending his ban in the country.

Akon’s accomplishments include simultaneously taking the top two spots on the Billboard Hot 100, being the best-selling artist for ringtones and... getting banned from Sri Lanka. Okay, maybe not that last one. He was banned from the island country because of the hit song “Sexy Chick.” In the video he throws a pool party and one of the guests in the background happens to be a statue of Buddha. This resulted in outrage, to which Akon responded by issuing an apology. A seemingly honest mistake, the ban feels particularly harsh when you consider the fact it was a David Guetta song, on which Akon was only “featured”.

Lady Gaga is no stranger to censorship. She was effectively banned from Indonesia when local authorities denied her permit request to perform in 2012. In China, she’s actually been the subject of multiple bans. From 2011 to 2014, many of her songs were blacklisted. In 2016, she got an outright ban after meeting the Dalai Lama. Although the meeting was intended to promote world peace, Chinese fans were outraged because the Dalai Lama, to them, represents the Tibetan separatist movement. As a result, she has been removed from Chinese radio and television and the distribution of her music has been cut off. Although it has yet to be tested, many believe she will be denied entrance to the country.

The conflict between China and Tibet is a really touchy subject. When Brad Pitt starred in “Seven Years in Tibet” he earned himself an “unspoken ban” in China. The film portrays the Chinese takeover of Tibet, their harsh rule over the region and paints the Dalai Lama in a positive light. Other high profile actors or directors including Martin Scorsese have also been banned for their pro-Tibet views. As of 2014 however, it seems as if time has healed the wounds between Brad Pitt and China, as he was able to visit the country with Angelina Jolie to promote her movie “Maleficent.” He revisited the country again in 2016 to promote his own film, “Allied”.

Surprisingly, Miley Cyrus was banned from China back in her relatively innocent Hannah Montana Days. Why? Well, a photo surfaced of her and a group of friends making the offensive Asian squinty eye face. Yeah... not a great moment for the budding starlet. But China isn’t the only country that the “Wrecking Ball” singer can’t visit– she’s also been banned from the Dominican Republic for acts that go against morals and customs. This is less surprising considering the new style she has adopted since attempting to break away from her previous Disney girl persona. Her idea of partying might fly in the U.S.A., but other countries are clearly less interested.

This particular entry is a less than surprising addition to our list, considering the man’s outspoken love of smoking weed. Snoop Dogg has been banned from several places including the United Kingdom, Australia and Norway. He was banned from the U.K. after he caused a scene at an airport because his entourage was unable to move up to first class. Australia briefly banned him after questioning his overall character. In 2012, he was given a two-year ban from Norway after he was found with 8 grams of marijuana, which he reportedly took in stride. Hey, you can’t be an “OG” and keep everyone happy.
