#10: Ballos
“Cave Story” (2004)
Spelunkers beware of this boulder-faced baddie. As the true final boss of this Metroidvania-style indie title, Ballos is no pushover. Actually getting to him is a challenge on its own, as the game forces you to jump through hoops and fill out some very obtuse conditions. Once you get to him, Ballos asks you to kill him, but doesn’t make it easy. With three separate forms, each one tougher and more dangerous than the last, you’ll have to use every platforming and shooting trick at your disposal to take him down. How the stalagmighty have fallen.
#9: Yellow Devil
“Mega Man” (1987)
He may be yellow, but he’s no coward. This giant combat robot wastes no time, attacking Mega Man right out of the gate with a complicated attack pattern, and never letting up from there. While savvy players can exploit his weakness by using the thunder beam, it won’t help dodge the Yellow Devil’s fast and damaging attack patterns. The fact that he also moves to the other side of the room every time you hit him doesn’t make things any easier, as he’s completely invincible while doing so. By the third or fourth time he disintegrates you, you’ll have no sympathy for this devil.

“Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance” (2013)
What’s this politician’s secret to a buff bod? (“Nanomachine’s Son”). The “Metal Gear” series is known for it’s unique and outlandish boss fights, and Senator Steven Armstrong is no exception. After cutting his way through armies of cyborgs, badass protagonist Raiden faces his ultimate opponent. Is it a rival ninja? A giant mech? No, it’s a patriotic state senator using nanomachines to enhance his strength. Resilient, fast, and with an arsenal of attacks that can shatter your health bar in seconds, Armstrong’s looking to make America great again, one punch at a time.
#7: Al Gore

“South Park: The Stick of Truth” (2014)
He may look like a joke, but he’s super cereal. Ex-vice president, environmental activist, and ManBearPig hunter extraordinaire, Al Gore does not mess around in this turn-based RPG. With the help of a couple devoted secret service agents, and a disheartening presentation on the dangers of climate change, Gore can make quick work of your party. He also has a sizeable amount of health, and can even counter some of your attacks. By the time you finally manage to defeat him, you’ll feel more drained than after a screening of “An Inconvenient Truth”.
#6: Lingering Will
“Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix” (2014)
We don’t remember ever seeing this guy at Disney World. One of the secret bosses in the Final Fantasy/Disney crossover series, that doesn’t make him any less tough. Armed with a keyblade of his own, Lingering Will can dish out some serious punishment to Sora, Donald, and Goofy. Even if you can manage to out-dodge the knight’s relentless onslaught, he’s constantly flying around the battle arena at breakneck speeds, making him a very hard target to hit. A real tough SOB, the Lingering Will is sure to cause lingering rage in even the most skilled gamers.
#5: Goro
“Mortal Kombat” (1992)
Four arms equals four times the difficulty. Making his first appearance in the original entry of the violent fighting series, Goro is the second to last boss in the game. Don’t be fooled by his hulking frame; the burly bruiser is just as fast as he is strong, and he is more than capable of laying the smack down on you, arm after arm after arm after arm. Throw in some cheap projectile magic, and grappling moves that really drain your health, and you have the guy responsible for many quarters lost in the arcades.

“Dark Souls 3” (2016)
Is it any surprise a “Dark Souls” boss is making an appearance? The punishing RPG series loves to pit players against some of the most epic – and frustrating – bosses in gaming, and the Nameless King proudly carries on the “Dark Souls” tradition of scream-inducing foes. A heavily armored man that rides on a feathery dragon, the boss makes quite an impression. But before you can bask in all his sublime glory, he’ll smite you where you instead, either by burning you alive, striking you with lightning, or impaling you, THEN striking you with lightning. We could have picked Midir from the Ringed City DLC, but honestly that fight just kinda…sucks. Screw Midir.
#3: C’Thun

“World of Warcraft” (2004)
The Eye of Sauron could learn a thing or two from this boss. C’Thun, one of the “Warcraft” universe’s Old Gods, resembles a writhing mass of tentacles with a giant eye in the center. And Elune help any player that gets caught in the eyeball’s gaze. In “World of Warcraft”’s earlier years, C’Thun was far and away one of the hardest bosses to conquer, whether alone or with a raid group. In fact, when C’Thun was introduced to WoW in 2006, it took almost 3 months before someone beat him, and that was only after he was nerfed by a couple of patches. Who knew a literal god could be so powerful?
#2: Sans
“Undertale” (2015)
This laid-back skeleton has a bone to pick you. Sans acts as the final boss of the “Genocide” route in this RPG, and needless to say, he is not happy about you murdering everything you come across. Putting the “hell” in “bullet hell”, the battle against Sans is a true test of patience, as it’s almost impossible to beat him without memorizing his extremely erratic attack patterns. He also dodges everything you throw at him, right up until the end, when the game finally allows you to hit him. His music’s pretty sweet, though.
#1: Orphan of Kos
“Bloodborne” (2015)
Ah, the miracle of birth. The final boss of “Bloodborne”’s “The Old Hunters” DLC, the Orphan of Kos puts the base game’s bosses to shame. Its horrifying design resembles a wretched and bony humanoid, and it screams like a petulant child every time it attacks. And you’ll be hearing that scream a lot, as it attacks swiftly and frequently, using what resembles a placenta as a sort of ax. Ew. Even if you manage to chip away at it’s sizeable health bar, the Orphan of Kos goes into a second phase where he’s even stronger, faster, and larger. No question, this guy will make your blood boil.
