VOICE OVER: Rebecca Brayton
We love these cartoon aliens! For this list, we'll be looking at the coolest, craziest, and most collectively badass extra-terrestrial species from the Adult Swim comedy sci-fi. Our countdown includes Gromflomites, Fart, Bird People, and more!

#10: Gazorpian

“Raising Gazorpazorp” saw Morty unintentionally become a father to a half-human, half-Gazorpian baby he named Morty Jr. Rick and Summer travel to the child’s homeworld and learn it’s a world divided by gender. The planet and setting itself is quite clearly a parody of the movie “Zardoz,” but Morty raising his son is also quite similar to the 2010 sitcom “Raising Hope.” What makes this race of aliens so awesome is that they can be an incredibly advanced and diplomatic species, but also a nightmare on the battlefield. Plus, if Morty Jr. is anything to go by, they could also be space’s answer to “Footloose.”

#9: Gromflomites

The alien race behind the Galactic Federation, these bug-like capitalistic creatures are ambitious, intelligent, and head-strong! But they’re also incredibly self-important, which is what leads to their downfall. Rick and his family encounter these guys a lot throughout the series as they attempt to either steal tech or retaliate against their rebellious actions. They’ve proved resilient, as even after their government gets toppled by Rick, they come back again hunting Clone Beth. It’s also important to note that not all of them are nationalistic, with self-interested outliers like assassin Krombopulos Michael. Any alien that poses a serious threat to the smartest man in the universe deserves a spot on this list.

#8: Cromulons

These planet-sized floating heads are both hilarious and terrifying. We encounter these guys during the season 2 episode “Get Schwifty,” where a Cromulon arrives to Earth scouting it for the televised talent show “Planet Music.” These beings are almost god-like! Due to their size, they can have a dramatic effect on wherever they visit. On top of being impervious to nuclear weapons, they can teleport and destroy planets in an instant. These guys may disregard less evolved lifeforms who provide them with entertainment, but they also set the stage for some incredibly bop-able tunes.

#7: Time Cops

Top 10 Characters from The Crown We Wish Got More Screen Time

I don’t think anyone expected the guardians of time would look like this! These guys live in the 4th dimension, attempting to prevent 3rd-dimensional life forms from messing up the space-time continuum. Their demeanor is as off-putting as their appearance, as they treat lower life forms as nuisances. While they have the technology to travel through time, that doesn’t mean they’re super intelligent, as they are easily outwitted by Rick. Not much is known about them, but they are incredibly funny with their “I’m just done with this” attitude. If you ever find yourself a time crystal, better be careful with it unless you want a royal beatdown.

#6: Krootabulans

Think Predators, but overpowered and sexy. These blue aliens send off their fierce warriors to hunt the Varix across the galaxy, with each one having a specific domain. They boast some pretty insane abilities including telekinesis, flight, and phasing through solid objects. They’re also pretty notorious, as Morty is already aware of their existence and greetings before he discovers his dad is dating one. Krootabulans are so powerful that having relations with them grants you temporary powers. All of this makes these aliens pretty badass, and especially interesting once you learn their intimate details from Jerry’s experiences with Kiara.

#5: Squanchy

Do you know what “squanch” means? A couple of these cat-like species have appeared in the background, but the primary one we’re exposed to is Squanchy, a former member of Rick’s band. The species appears to be a parody of Snarf from “ThunderCats.” They have an interesting culture, where the term “squanch” in different contexts can mean different things. But as Beth proves, that doesn’t mean it’s an easy language to learn. We also see that Squanchy isn’t afraid of a fight, showing that with a swig of some green juice, he can turn into a hulking monster. Depending on your tolerance, the Squanchy might be a good bunch to have on your next pub crawl.

#4: Fart

With such a ridiculous name, you wouldn’t think to treat them seriously! Then again, that’s Rick’s name for it, we don’t actually know the name of his species. With the ability to change molecular structures at will, he’s a tool for unlimited power! However, it’s this highly evolved form that makes him so dangerous. Fart’s species believe themselves to be higher life forms, and as such, they view all carbon-based life as a threat that needs to be eradicated. While their appearance is brief, it’s incredibly memorable! But we also hope that it’s the last we see of them, as it could prove to be the end of life in the universe as we know.

#3: Zigerions

You can’t help but wonder if these guys would make more money using their giant VR Machines in a Blips and Chitz! While these large-headed pink humanoids do have access to incredible technology, they might have stolen most of it, as Rick describes them as the “worst con-artists in the galaxy.” Their main method of stealing is through elaborate simulations that lull their targets into a sense of security so they reveal their deepest secrets. They are also easily irritable, a little dim-witted, and not very physically capable. But the situations and jokes that come at their expense make them some of the best aliens in our books.

#2: Mr. Poopybutthole Species

OOOWWEEE, we got a surefire fan favorite over here, OOWEEE. It’s interesting because, despite being so popular and appearing more than other aliens on this list, we don’t know that much about the Poppybutthole species! We know that there are more than just Mr. Poopybutthole out there since he has a wife and kids, and similar creatures appear in both the series and comics. If the Smith family’s friend is anything to go by though, they are very intelligent, kind-hearted, athletic, and fun characters to have around. We all hope we get to see more of him and his brethren in the future! Before we unveil our top pick, here are a few honorable mentions. #1: Bird People

Also in:

The Shocking True Story of Black Bird

Wise, calm and determined, these aliens would probably be the first from “Rick and Morty” you think of. We’ve only seen a handful of Bird People throughout the series, but the most notable is Rick’s best friend Birdperson. They are parodies of the Tangata Manu from the “Buck Rogers” series and are by far the most stable species that have been featured. While they resemble humans with obvious avian features added, their society appears a lot more peaceful and ethical than ours. They have advanced technology and variations of human celebrations, like a wedding is called a “melding.” If the rest of the species is anything like Birdperson, then we hope to visit their homeworld again.
