#3: Wonder Woman Director Patty Jenkins Not Signed On for Sequel

If DC and Warner Bros. decide to produce a Wonder Woman sequel - and let’s face it, with a domestic opening of $103.3 million setting records in female filmmaking, they will be - they have to sign on their director. Gal Gadot has a contract option to reprise her role, but Director Patty Jenkins only signed on for one film, and with the tremendous success of Wonder Woman, sources say Jenkins’ should be looking for a big payout for the sequel. Jenkins has a ton of leverage when it comes to negotiations, with the film being the DCEU’s first critical hit, also setting records for highest opening gross total by a female director, and the first female director to hit $100 million in their film’s opening weekend. Should Jenkins land a new contract, she already knows where she wants the sequel to go, according to EW. She hopes to bring Diana Prince across the pond to America.

#2: Seth Rogen Mad Over Sony Releasing Clean Versions of Their Movies

Viewer discretion isn’t advised… At least when it comes to Sony movies. The film company has launched a new initiative where they will be offering clean versions of their films, which they believe will help them reach a broader audience. But, longtime collaborator Seth Rogen is not impressed. The actor has worked with the studio on films like The Interview and most recently, Sausage Party, but it didn’t stop Rogen from taking to Twitter to voice his opinion. “Holy shit, please don’t do this to our movies. Thanks” read the tweet, which has garnered over 40,000 likes. According to Sony, these films will be used when played on television, airplanes and will also come in digital formats when purchased on iTunes, Vudu and FandangoNOW. None of Rogen’s Sony works have been “cleaned” yet, but Sony has started with Bid Daddy, Talladega Nights and Captain Phillips to name a few. Before we get to our final pick, here are a few new releases: “It Comes At Night” (2017) “Megan Leavey” (2017)

#1: Tom Cruise’s “The Mummy” A Terrible Start to Dark Universe

Looks like this Mummy should’ve been kept under wraps. It appears not even the star power of Tom Cruise was enough to bring this monster back from the dead, with critics panning Universal’s first foray into the shared Dark Universe; some have even called it Cruise’s worst movie yet. It’s a tough start to Universal’s new cinematic universe; Rotten Tomatoes has the film at a sour 22% so far, which would be a disaster for the franchise to build on. With plans to make a Frankenstein, Wolf Man and Dracula film, Universal looked to avoid the same critical fate as the DCEU, with only the recent Wonder Woman bringing the franchise into film culture’s good graces. Prior to reviews flooding in, The Mummy director and producer Alex Kurtzman told Fandom he wanted to bring on Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence and Charlize Theron for future installments of the shared universe. But, with reception being so lukewarm, the whole thing just may be a monstrous disaster.
