After a directorial hiatus of four years, Soderbergh is back with his latest film Logan Lucky, starring Channing Tatum, Adam Driver, Riley Keough and Daniel Craig like you’ve never seen him before. The film follows the Logan siblings played by Tatum, Driver and Keough, who after thinking they’re cursed, look to reverse their fortunes by pulling off a heist at Nascar’s Coca-Cola 600 race. The trailer is a laugh riot, showcasing Craig as an oddball criminal, Channing Tatum as a simple-minded buffoon, and Adam Driver as an amputee, with his prosthetic arm serving as a comedic prop. The film brings Soderbergh back to the high-risk heist genre he mastered in the Ocean’s franchise. Rounded out by an ensemble cast including Seth MacFarlane, Sebastian Stan, Katherine Waterston and Hillary Swank, Logan Lucky looks to wow audiences when it’s released this August.

Will Smith DEFENDS Netflix at Heated Cannes Festival Conference – The CineFiles Ep. 21
The 70th edition of the prestigious film festival came to a close earlier this week and with it came some surprising news and award winners. Ruben Östlund’s The Square - a story about the fall of the Swedish Monarchy leading to anarchy - won the Palme d’Or to the surprise of some after earning mixed reviews. Joaquin Phoenix won the best actor award for his turn in You Were Never Really Here, playing a war veteran trying to save a woman from a sex trafficking ring. However, the real story of the festival was the women. Diane Kruger won best actress for her performance in In The Fade, and Nicole Kidman was honored with the 70th Anniversary Prize for appearing in four films part of the official selection. One of them, The Beguiled, won Sofia Coppola the best director award, marking only the second time a female has won it. Is The Dark Knight the Greatest Superhero Movie? – The CineFiles: Extended Cut
The results are in and the critics have spoken! With the review embargo lifted Monday, DC’s Wonder Woman looks to have lassoed some rave reviews, finally giving the studio a winning result critically. With a certified fresh rating of 93% on Rotten Tomatoes so far, leading lady Gal Gadot and director Patty Jenkins have landed what many are calling the best DC film since Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy. Wonder Woman is the first live-action theatrical film to be based on the character and the first superhero film with a female protagonist to be directed by a woman. While the movie has its fans, it also has its detractors. The Lebanese group, the Campaign to Boycott Supporters of Israel-Lebanon pressured the Lebanese government into banning the film from playing in the country because Gal Gadot is Israeli. The two countries are officially at war. Audiences the world over however are all set for it’s release on Friday, June 2nd.
