#3: Han Solo Standalone Movie Fires Directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller
The force may have been too strong when it came to Phil Lord and Christopher Miller’s vision for the upcoming standalone Han Solo film. According to The Hollywood reporter, “creative differences” between the two directors and the film’s writer, Lawrence Kasdan led to their firing. The directing duo were allegedly looking to inject their trademark humor as seen in their 21 Jump Street, While Kasdan - whose written The Empire Strikes Back and Raiders of the Lost Ark - looked to keep things simple and straight forward. Sources close to the project have said friction was obvious from the start of production in February which built up throughout filming, ultimately leading to the duos dismissal. Rumors on a replacement have already started, with Deadline reporting that Ron Howard is now the frontrunner to take over as director. Rogue One also had its own director controversy, when Tony Gilroy directed extensive reshoots for the Gareth Edwards film.

Tom Cruise’s latest action-horror outing, The Mummy, has been buried by critics and fans alike in North America, and unfortunately for Universal, it doesn’t look like the bad news ends there. In a report published by Deadline, a number of film finance sources have tabulated that the movie stands to lose 95 million dollars at the end of its theatrical run. While performing admirably overseas, drawing in $236 million so far, domestically, it has bombed big time, earning only $58 million to date. With the film costing an estimated $345 million - distribution and promotional campaign included - the projected returns won’t be enough to break even; especially with Transformers: The Last Knight expected to do well overseas. One of the greatest actors of his generation is calling it quits. In a move that shocked the movie world, Daniel Day-Lewis announced via his spokesperson that he would be “no longer working as an actor.” Variety was the first to break the news. The statement read “This is a private decision and neither he nor his representatives will make any further comment on this subject.” It does not clarify why the decision was made. The legend of cinema leaves behind the business that has awarded him three Best Actor Oscars, the only performer to ever do so. Known for his rigorous method acting, Day-Lewis’ illustrious career saw him play gangsters, historical figures and politicians, which showcased his tremendous range. Day-Lewis’ next and last project sees him reunite with director Paul Thomas Anderson who helped him earn an Oscar in There Will Be Blood. This time, for an untitled drama set in the fashion industry.
