The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings -Enhanced Edition: Everything You Should Know

The critically acclaimed role-playing game arrives on the home console. Welcome to WatchMojo.com and today we’ll be exploring everything you should know about “The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings- Enhanced Edition.”

The sequel to 2007’s “The Witcher”, console owners have waited almost a year to get their hands on this beloved RPG. Like its earlier installment, it is based on the fantasy book series of the same name, and has been developed by the studio “CD Projekt RED.”

In this series, you inhabit the role of Geralt of Rivia, one of the last Witchers. Witchers are mutants that have been raised and genetically modified to hunt and kill monsters. Witchers are not only skilled fighters, but can also to consume ability enhancing potions that would kill normal men.

During the game’s prologue, Geralt is being interrogated in a prison within the kingdom of Temeria. He is suspected of the highest treason, the murder of the king. However, as the players soon find out, Geralt is innocent and is the only person who has seen the real assassin’s face.

During the interrogation, the Kingdon’s Special Forces officer decides that Geralt is innocent and agrees to help him escape. Together, with Geralts sorceress companion Triss Merigold, who players may have met in the first game, the trio begins their quest to hunt down the kingslayer and clear Geralt’s name. A non-linear adventure, “The Witcher 2” features three independent storylines, multiple paths, different character interactions and endings to discover.

Although this game is still an RPG that allows you to customize your character to suit your preference and play style, players will always inhabit the role of the Witcher. As a Witcher, Geralt always carriers a steel sword or other steel weapon for fighting humans, and a silver sword for fighting monsters. Players will quickly learn that using the wrong weapon for a given situation will prove quite ineffective. As mentioned earlier, Geralt can also consume special ability enhancing potions. However, the player cannot choose to do this spontaneously: they must consume their potions before entering combat, adding a layer of strategic depth and planning. This is meant to enhance the idea that the player is a monster hunter, one that prepares in advance for each unique encounter.

Much of The Witcher 2’s popularity comes from the fact that it is a game marketed solely for adults. Not only does the game feature a fair amount of mature, not safe for work style content, but the game has been hailed as one of the first games in a long time to exclude excessive hand holding. The Witcher 2 features complex menus, subtle nuances and punishingly difficult gameplay that many players found quite refreshing.

Thankfully, this deep and well-crafted PC game has been recreated faithfully in terms of graphics and controls for the home console. Very little has been lost in translation, and console gamers will find that the game runs and plays smoothly enough to appear as if it had been originally designed for the Xbox 360.

Graphics and gameplay mechanics aside, “The Witcher 2” further makes up for its late arrival with many console exclusives, including new missions, a extreme difficulty setting called “Dark Mode”, an “Arena Mode”, where players fight against an unending wave of enemies, and the added content from all of the PC’s previously released DLC packs.

A top tier Action-RPG, players looking for a game that will treat them like an adult should definitely check the Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings; they will not be disappointed.
