VOICE OVER: Aaron Kline WRITTEN BY: Aaron Kline
A next gen update for "The Witcher 3" is here and there are a lot of big changes! For this list, we'll be looking at the interesting ways in which CD Projekt Red has moderninzed the beloved RPG. Our list includes DualSense Support, Cross-progression, Improved Visuals, and more!
Script written by Aaron Kline Welcome to MojoPlays, and today we’re looking at 10 changes coming to The Witcher 3 with its next-gen update. The Witcher 3 was released all the way back in 2015, so some of the game does show its age. It will be interesting to see how this update modernizes this classic RPG. Let us know in the comments which of these updates you’re most looking forward to.

#10: Where to Play

While it is being called a “next-gen” update, you’ll be able to benefit no matter which platform you play The Witcher 3 on. For starters, the update will be coming to PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. All three of these platforms will be your go-to if you want to get a full “next-gen” experience. However, if you’re playing on older hardware like the PS4, Xbox One, and Switch, you’ll only get a select few of the listed features in this update. No matter where you play, this update will bring new life to your base game.

#9: Quality of Life

The Witcher 3 was released over 7 years ago, so it’s not super old, but old enough to feel dated in some regards. This next-gen update will fix some of the game's well-known shortcomings. Load times will be faster, including fast travel times. Gone is the map full of clutter, you can now filter icons you want to see. Subtitles can be made larger, and more localisation will be added, meaning more territories will be able to enjoy The Witcher 3 with their native language. Finally, and this is a small thing but a highly requested one, you can finally pause while in a cutscene.

#8: Improved Visuals

A lot can change in 7 years when it comes to game visuals, and the base Witcher 3 doesn’t look as good as say God of War Ragnork. For current gen consoles, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S along with PC, The Witcher 3 will be getting an overhaul in the visual department. Two graphical modes are available to pick from - performance and quality mode. Quality mode will run at 30FPS with ray tracing, while performance mode will run at 60FPS without ray tracing. Improved textures and foliage will be added, along with new NPC models, so say goodbye to those clone NPCs we see every so often.

#7: Netflix DLC

DLC involving the Netflix Witcher series will be available for all consoles, current and last gen alike. This DLC will include a new quest inspired by the hit Netflix series. Completing the quest will grant you new equipment for Geralt and Netflix-inspired looks for other characters. That means we’ll be seeing more of this weird, wrinkly armor. So gross.

#6: Fixed Quest

It can be very annoying when quests don’t work. Thankfully, this will be addressed in the next-gen update. There are a lot of quests that are simply broken, not letting players complete them. This fix will be applied retroactively to your save which means if you’re stuck in a quest due to a bug that doesn’t let you pick up an item, you should be able to go back to said item and finally pick it up. During the The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt presentation, two quests were mentioned: “From Ofier’s Distant Shores” and “Scavenger Hunt: Wolf School Gear”. These two quests featured two of the more famous bugs, but there are quite a few more.

#5: DualSense Support

10 PS5 Games That BEST Use The DualSense Controller

One of the coolest features of the PS5 has to be the DualSense controller. The way that players can feel things that are happening in the game is beyond amazing. The Witcher 3 will now have full DualSense support with the new next-gen update. The Witcher 3 will have haptic feedback meaning when you land a hit with your sword, you’ll feel it. You’ll also feel the haptic feedback while casting spells among other things. This feature is only for PS5 and will add another level of immersion to the gameplay.

#4: New Camera

While nothing was wrong with the camera in The Witcher 3, it’s always nice to have options. The next-gen update will give players a new camera angle to mess around with. This will give players the option to set which camera mode they want for specific parts of the game. So if you want to be up close while in combat, you can, and when on horseback you can have the traditional Witcher camera. Players can mix and match to whichever camera they prefer depending on the scenario.

#3: Cross-progression

The Real Reason Sony Wont Let You Cross Play

With this new update coming to so many consoles, wouldn’t it be nice if you could, let's say, play on your PS5 and then with the same save play on a Steam Deck? Well, you’ll be able to do just that. This feature is only for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. So no matter which current-gen hardware you’re playing on, you can continue your story right where you left off.

#2: Photo Mode

Every beautiful game has a photo mode nowadays. Players already loved taking screenshots of the beautiful world of The Witcher, but now we can get better angles and lighting thanks to the all new photo mode. Photo mode will have your typical settings like field of view, depth of field, tilting the camera, effects, and overlays. With all the new visual features, I can’t wait to see what people will be capturing. CD Projekt Red also announced a photo mode contest, however no details have been given on it just yet, so keep an eye on their Twitter for more details.

#1: Quick Cast

Casting Signs is currently done by opening a weapon wheel and having the gameplay slow down as you select your cast. There is now a new quick cast feature which will no longer take you out of the action. Simply hold R2 and now all of your face buttons act as your cast options. This will make using signs easier and faster to pull off. If you’re a big fan of the old way of casting, no worries, that will still be here and you can swap at any time.
