Sabrina's back! This time, it's the chilling adventures of Sabrina Spellman, and it'll be a horror instead of the family friendly Sabrina the Teenage Witch we have all come to love. Here are 5 facts about the new netflix show coming in 2018! First it's based on a series of novels.Kiernan Shipka Plays Sabrina Spellman. You may recognize her as Sally from Mad Men.

#5: Kiernan Shipka Plays Sabrina Spellman

Casting the title character to a show is always a major step, and one that fans tend to agonize over. There were rumors that it would be Disney star Dove Cameron, but that seems to have been a mislead. Now, at last, it has been confirmed that Kiernan Shipka, who is known for both her work on AMC’s “Mad Men” and her voice-acting talents as Jinora on “The Legend of Korra” will be riding her broomstick into the role of our favorite teenage witch, Sabrina Spellman.

Sabrina Spellman, the teenage half-witch, half-mortal, has been a staple in Archie comics for decades, but it is a more recent incarnation of the character that will act as the launching point for the TV series. “The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina” debuted in 2014, spinning off from the publication of the series "Afterlife with Archie.” In the comic, we see the origins and early life of Sabrina. Dark and magical, “Chilling Adventures” has little to none of the campy or cartoonish antics of the original incarnation. The witches involved are the stuff of nightmares, with Sabrina (a morally ambivalent character at best) battling the forces of evil and trying to protect the mortals she loves.

#3: There Might Be A “Riverdale” Crossover

In 2017, “Riverdale” premiered on The CW, and was an instant hit. Taking the happy-go-lucky comics gang and throwing them in the midst of a murder mystery certainly won over audiences, even if it seemed like an out-there concept at first. Now, with the announcement that Sabrina is getting her own show, the question is: will the two worlds ever collide? In the original comics, Archie and the gang occasionally ran into Sabrina, her aunts, Salem the Cat, and Harvey, so it is not inconceivable that they might cross paths on the small screen. Thus far, the Sabrina is being treated more as a companion piece, rather than a straight spin-off, so no word on a cross-over . . . yet.

#2: Netflix Has Already Greenlit Two Seasons

For any new show (even one with established characters and a fan base) this is a big deal. Sources told the “Hollywood Reporter” that Netflix has commissioned two ten-episode seasons. Filming for the first season begins in February of 2018 and will end in June, and season two is to be filmed immediately afterwards, wrapping up in October. Clearly, they are banking on the success of “Riverdale” which flourished mightily on Netflix. Can ratings lightning strike twice? This series will have a good, long opportunity to find out.

#1: It’s A Horror Story

Remember when we said this series would not be based on the light-hearted funny pages? Yeah, it gets dark. Real dark. Where “Riverdale” has brought the teens of Riverdale High into the midst of a murder mystery, Sabrina will be venturing into the horror genre, with comparisons to “The Exorcist” and “Rosemary’s Baby” already being tossed around. There will be blood. This will be the Teenage Witch like many have never seen her, and a far-cry from Melissa Joan Hart's light-hearted family sitcom. With characters like Madam Satan lurking about, not to mention the messed-up story of Sabrina’s parents and literal pacts with the devil, there is a reason “Chilling” is in the title.
