VOICE OVER: Phoebe de Jeu WRITTEN BY: Owen Maxwell
It's Greendale's pure-hearted hunk against the Southside's brooding cinephile and bad boy king…! For this showdown, we're pitting two of the male leads from these Archie comic TV adaptations against each other to see who'll come out on top! Our verses includes personality, looks & style, and more! Join MsMojo as we count down our picks for the Jughead Jones Vs Harvey Kinkle.

Round 1: Personality

From his opening narrations, it's clear that Jughead is a moody and dark character that sees the true evil in his town. Jones brings an over-the-top sense of drama to the series that can be fun or a tad cringey at times. As a massive film nerd, Jughead is always quoting characters and comparing his strange life to different movies. His bad-boy inheritance leads him to join the Southside Serpents and then rule the gang as a force for good. Jones is always searching for the truth and ultimately does whatever it takes to serve justice in Riverdale. While even Archie Andrews can seemingly change attitudes episode-to-episode, Jughead's personality is well defined and his convictions remain relatively consistent even as life throws him curveballs. Harvey Kinkle on the other hand is a total sweetheart, and is constantly sticking his neck out for people he cares about. Kinkle is so loving in fact that he insists on risking life and limb trying to rescue his brother after the mine accident. Harvey is also a passionate artist who escapes his world through drawing, when many other characters on 'Sabrina' seemingly do nothing outside of school. His family-first perspective is also unique given how many of his friends just talk about themselves. As it stands however, Harvey is still more of a side character on 'Sabrina,' and lacks enough depth to hold our interest for very long. Harvey does what's right even if it hurts, but simply being a good guy isn't always that compelling. Jughead balances his responsibilities and values in a way that really pulls us in. With his complexity and layered character, Mr. Jones takes the lead. WINNER: Jughead Jones 1 / Harvey Kinkle 0

Round 2: Looks & Style

With a crown beanie on his head, Jughead has a uniquely modern but quirky look going for him. All of Juggie's denim jackets keep him stylish throughout the winter, while the sherpa lining is actually good for the cold weather. Jones's Serpent outfit exudes classic greaser chic, and it turns out he actually has the attitude to back it up. Between his classic S t-shirt and lots of plaid, Jughead can keep things casual too. Jones' hair is slick without his hat as well, which helps his already smoky looks. More than anything, Jughead's style manages to be distinct without feeling like a cartoon character. Rather than going for a boutique fashion look, Harvey Kinkle maintains a rather modest aesthetic. Kinkle isn't trying to stand out, and sticks to simple shirts with neutral colors. Harvey does have a pretty strong jaw however and his sleepy eyes are very welcoming. Though he does actually dress quite well, it's clear that Kinkle likes to keep his fashion simple. When he goes into the mines however, Harvey has a rugged and strong blue-collar look that could give witches the vapors. While Kinkle certainly has a look, he could easily be mistaken for a background character if he just walked by the camera. Harvey Kinkle knows what he likes to wear and is deceptively handsome, but he wouldn't catch the eye in a group. Jughead has defined his look though, and ties together so many different outfits that you could likely recognize him in a silhouette. With his fashion know-how, Jughead easily out-dresses Harvey Kinkle. WINNER: Jughead Jones 2 / Harvey Kinkle 0

Round 3: Heart

Despite his tough exterior and knack for snarky comments, Jughead is usually trying to help Riverdale become a better town. Jones helps his father FP get back on the right track and supports his case to get out of jail. His quest to free his father goes so far that Jughead chooses to lead the Serpents - a heavy burden for anyone. To this end, Jones is often breaking the law and getting violent just to right a wrong. Jughead stands by Archie again and again, and puts his own life at risk to keep Andrews safe. Though Jones can be quick to anger and occasionally even selfish, he usually aims to do what's best for everyone. When it comes to kind actions, Harvey is always looking out for others and rarely considers the consequences for himself. Kinkle takes his fair share of abuse from his father, in an effort to pay back everything his brother Tommy does for him. He even nurses a zombie Tommy until he realizes that he has to put his brother down. Harvey goes so far in his attempts to help Tommy in a mine collapse that he stops thinking about how dangerous the rescue attempt is. Kinkle also stands by keeping his family magic-free, even when it risks his relationship with Sabrina. Though Jughead goes beyond the law to help others, he's not without his demons, and he can let his emotions get the better of him. By contrast, Harvey Kinkle never wavers, and often puts himself last just to keep his family and friends looked after. For his noble sensibilities, and overwhelming sense of compassion, Harvey takes the round. WINNER: Jughead Jones 2 / Harvey Kinkle 1

Given plenty of opportunity due to the abundance of crime in and around Riverdale, Jughead defends Betty more times than we can count. Though Juggie has actually lied to Betty quite a bit, there's almost always a pretense of protecting her from a greater danger. In fact, Jones only breaks up with Betty because there's too much death and violence surrounding his life. That said, Jughead is constantly getting into trouble, giving Betty reason to fear for his life. They’ve both got darkness in them however, and the acceptance Jughead shows Betty in this regard makes him rather unique in her life. While the pair do have a strong relationship, it's weathered some rough seas, usually brought on by Jughead’s actions. Harvey shows an undying sense of love towards Sabrina Spellman, and is notably wholesome in his intentions. Spellman takes off her clothes in front of Kinkle to find a birthmark, and he only strips down to make her comfortable. Throughout the series, Harvey supports Sabrina and serves as an ever-reliable ear for her troubles. Interesting or not, Kinkle is about as honest and straightforward as partners come. The only time Harvey fights with Sabrina is when he finds out she has been lying to him. Committed to doing what’s best for his partner, he even asks Spellman to leave because he knows his resentment will be toxic to their friendship. Jughead shows unconditional passion and understanding towards Betty, but he puts himself in harm's way far too often. Though Harvey's love may seem surreal, he provides support and a reality check when Sabrina needs it. Harvey steals the round with a relationship approach that almost feels like it was pulled from a fairytale. WINNER: Jughead Jones 2 / Harvey Kinkle 2

Which Riverdale Character Are You Based on Your Sign?

Though Jughead Jones starts out as an edgy outcast, he becomes one of the leading voices of justice in Riverdale. Jones' time in the Serpents also teaches him responsibility and sees him bringing morals back to the gang. His anti-authority streak only continues later in the series when the cops themselves become corrupt. Through annoying most villains in the show, Jughead goes from a nuisance to an essential lead on 'Riverdale.' His unusual dialogue and flair for the dramatic make him consistently entertaining, sometimes more so than Archie's stories. From his humble roots, Jughead continues to develop as one of 'Riverdale's most fleshed-out characters. When we first see Harvey, he's clinging to Sabrina and generally providing a strong moral center for everyone. He's a good guy from the very beginning, and Kinkle doesn't change all that much as the series goes on. Unfortunately, Harvey's stories are usually more about Sabrina, and he ends up in the background. Though Kinkle is a lovable character, his scenes aren't all that fun and usually end up servicing other stories. After finding magic in his world however, Harvey is forced to form an opinion and take a stand, ultimately putting his family ahead of his own happiness. It’s something, but by starting 'Sabrina' as a mostly-formed person, Harvey doesn't get much of an arc to himself. Jughead is always taking on new challenges and developing as a person. Harvey starts out strong, but doesn't change much compared to his friends. With his undeniable draw and the ability to lead a series, Jughead is the bigger star. WINNER: Jughead Jones 3 / Harvey Kinkle 2 Harvey is a great guy, but Jughead Jones is a character with enough range to win 3 to 2. WINNER: JUGHEAD JONES TAKES THE CROWN.
