#3: Logan World Premiere at Berlin International Film Festival

Hugh Jackman is saying bye to his iconic X-Men role in style. Wolverine is clawing his way to Germany to premiere his third and final standalone film, Logan at the 67th Berlin International Film Festival. Drawing inspiration from the comic book series Old Man Logan, the movie takes place years after the epilogue of X-Men: Days of Future Past. An aging Logan - whose regenerative powers are failing - and Professor Xavier come across a young girl very much like Logan, and must protect her from a villainous organization tracking her down. The trailer excited audiences with it’s neo-western style, looking much different than previous X-Men releases. With the Berlin Fest premiering the movie in February, general audiences will have to wait for the wide release March 3rd.

#2: La La Land Sweeps The Golden Globes

Seven. Lucky number seven. La La Land continued it’s dominance this awards season and broke a Golden Globe record by winning every category it was nominated for. The film took home seven awards, including best picture, best actor and actress, and best director. Not to be overlooked, the musical dominated the music categories winning both best original score and original song for “City of Stars.” Ryan Gosling beat out fellow Canadian Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool in the best actor category, and Emma Stone beat out the legendary Meryl Streep, who made waves in other ways. La La Land’s seemingly unstoppable surge takes it to the British Academy Film Awards next, where it leads the way with 11 nominations.

Before we get to our final pick, be sure to check out these new releases.

#1: Woody Harrelson Cast in New Star Wars Movie

He’s volunteered as tribute! Or is it as Jedi? Rumours that were first brought forth by Variety have now been confirmed – Woody Harrelson has been cast to play alongside Alden Ehrenreich’s Han Solo in the standalone Young Han Solo Star Wars film. Although not much is known about the project, various sources report that Harrelson is likely to play Solo’s mentor. Directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller took to StarWars.com and gushed over their excitement of having someone with the ability to quote, “find both humor and pathos, often in the same role...” With Harrelson joining Ehrenreich as well as Atlanta’s Donald Glover and Game of Thrones’ Emilia Clarke, it’s safe to say that the cast grows strong with this one.
