Top 10 Zombie Kills

These animated corpses never stood a chance. Welcome to WatchMojo.com, and today we’re counting down our picks for another top 10 zombie kills. For this list, we’re looking at more of the most memorable and awesome times a zombie was killed in movies or on TV. If you didn’t see a kill that you thought should make the cut, make sure to check out our first top 10 zombie kills list. Please be advised, the following video contains mature and graphic content. And obviously, SPOILER ALERT.

#10: Acid Head “Diary of the Dead” (2007)

When the godfather of the zombie genre decided to place this film in the same time period as his original masterpiece, expectations were high. And when it came to showing new and unique methods of dispatching the undead, it more than met those lofty goals. With a zombie on his trail but incapable of firing any weapons due to the barrels of fuel nearby, it was fortunate for this young student in “Diary of the Dead” that a jar containing acid was at hand.

#9: Airplane Exit “World War Z” (2013)

When a plane is infested by ravenous, flesh-eating husks of humanity and the curtain between coach and first class is not as impenetrable as it once seemed, the outlook for survival quickly becomes bleak in this disaster zombie flick. There aren’t many circumstances where setting off a live grenade in an occupied airplane is the best option for survival. Seeing a scene play out where that is exactly the case and the bodies of the recently dead and reanimated alike being sucked out is just plain cool.

#8: Head Shot “The Beyond” (1981)

Inside a morgue overrun with zombies, a man and a woman come across a girl as they try to survive the dangers that surround them. Unbeknownst to them, they’re actually bringing danger with them, as that girl is a zombie who before long will try to take their lives. Firing a powerful handgun at her without hesitation, he manages to shoot the top of her head clean off. With amazing effects for its time and paltry budget, there is something completely visceral and compelling about this fantastic scene from the ‘80s Italian horror film.

#7: Skewered Janitor “Dawn of the Dead” (2004)

When your city is being overwhelmed by the accursed, there is only one place to go to find safety; the mall, of course. While searching one of the many stores for weaponry and survivors, an unassuming survivor comes across both a croquet mallet and a zombified janitor in this remake of George A. Romero’s 1978 classic. Inspired to combine his new discoveries in epic fashion, Michael plunges the broken, sharpened end of the mallet into the skull of the mall’s janitor, saving his own life and ensuring the film’s inclusion in this list.

#6: Outboard Motors Kill “Zombie Holocaust” (1979)

When a morgue assistant and a doctor set out to investigate a chain of islands where a hospital worker was found devouring bodies in the morgue, little do they know how much danger they’ve put themselves in. While attempting to start a boat they find on the edge of the beach, they are nearly taken by surprise by a particularly old, dusty looking zombie before the doctor forces the now running outboard motor directly into its face. Gory and grotesque in the best way possible, this kill from “Zombie Holocaust” is truly unforgettable.

#5: Don’t Get Too Close to the Camera “Quarantine” (2008)

Top 10 Best Zombie Kills in Army of the Dead

In the last few decades, the found footage format has become a staple of the horror genre, so it was only a matter of time before zombie films incorporated it as well. This scene from the remake of the Spanish film “REC” takes the audience and puts them completely in the action by using the camera - which serves as the audience’s eyes and ears - to smash in the head of an unsuspecting zombie. Simultaneously absorbing and disgusting, we love every second of it.

#4: Trunk Beats Head “The Walking Dead” (2010-)

In this TV drama, Daryl Dixon has proven himself to be a zombie-destroying machine. We could have easily populated this entire list with nothing but a rundown of greatest hits of the many undead who were stopped by this badass redneck. But there’s no question that this particular instance where Daryl used something as innocuous as a car trunk to squash the head of a walker in such epic fashion is the best of them all. Ingenious and highlighted by what seems like a gallon of blood covering everything, this is the perfect example why, if Daryl dies, we riot.

#3: Banjo Makes You Deado “Zombieland” (2009)

When one man’s obsession to find a Twinkie brings two men who couldn’t be more different into an abandoned grocery store inhabited by monstrous beings who want to eat them alive, the comedy that ensues is quite unexpected. Wanting to kill his predators while having fun doing it, Woody Harrelson’s Tallahassee taunts and then exterminates them with style and class in “Zombieland.” Though unsuccessful in finding his sweet treat, he definitely pulled off entertaining audiences everywhere in this scene.

#2: Chainsaw Bride “REC 3: Genesis” (2012)

The few people who have made the mistake of crossing a bride on her wedding day would likely be eager to tell you that there are few ideas that are more regrettable. It just so happens that in this Spanish film, it is the reanimated bodies of the recently deceased seeking to eat the living that screw up what was supposed to be the best day of this young woman’s life. Clara has no problem expressing her anger about it while wielding a chainsaw though. Sawing into the face of one of the offending bodies before splitting another in half does the trick quite nicely. Before we unveil our top pick, here are a few honorable mentions. - Baby Kicker “Cockneys vs Zombies” (2012) - Chord Cutting “The Walking Dead” (2010-) - Helicopter from the Inside “Planet Terror” (2007) - Killer Queen “Shaun of the Dead” (2004) - Shaun Kills Pete “Shaun of the Dead” (2004)

#1: Chainsaw His Guts Out “Dead Snow” (2009)

When a group of friends’ trip to a cabin in the winter is interrupted by Nazi zombies who slay several of them, it’s safe to say that the few survivors hate their guts. That is why it makes perfect sense that one of them wouldn’t think twice about driving a chainsaw into the guts of the dead. This fight scene from the Norwegian splatter flick then sees him sawing into a zombie with such ferocious anger that its intestines spill out into the snow. His blood-splashed face doesn't crack a smile, but ours certainly did. Do you agree with our list? What’s your favorite zombie kill?
