Top 10 Zombie Moments

Nothing leaves an impression like a mindless corpse with an insatiable appetite! Welcome to WatchMojo.com, and today we’ll be counting down our top 10 favorite zombie moments.

#10 – Abandoning Everything: “28 Weeks Later” (2007)

Kicking off our list is the nail-biter of a scene in which a man does the unthinkable and abandons his family when the going gets tough. Who didn’t hold their breath as he’s chased by a horde of fast-moving zombies across a seemingly endless field? This moment stays with us because, while the survivor does escape with his life, he doesn’t leave with his soul.

#9 – Zombie vs. Shark: “Zombi 2” (1979)

Anyone who’s read books like “The Zombie Survival Guide” will recognize that zombies roaming underwater are a serious safety hazard! This scuba diver learns that lesson the hard way. It’s definitely a one-of-a-kind experience to see a zombie attack at that depth. What’s even more interesting is seeing Jaws save the day! Never thought you’d see this horror match-up? Well, you were wrong!

#8 – Lawnmower vs. Zombies: “Brain Dead” a.k.a “Dead Alive” (1992)

When confronting zombies that can survive in pieces without even their brains, there’s no better tool than a shoulder-mounted lawnmower – although it’s undoubtedly the messiest gizmo for the job. I hope you didn’t eat a big lunch! This scene is total slapstick, and also a bit badass – you cannot watch it without getting the urge to take a long shower.

#7 – Zombie Interrogation: “Return of the Living Dead” (1985)

It’s common knowledge that zombies have humans on the brain, but this is the first flick to give the ghouls a deeper sense of motivation, as well as a voice to explain it! Here, a zombie is strapped to a table and tells us why brains are so irresistible. We’re just wondering why her vocal chords haven’t decomposed yet…

#6 – The Little Girl: “The Walking Dead” (2010 -)

This terror-ific show has given us countless memorable zombie moments. However, for us the tone was set in that first scene of the debut episode. Our hero Rick is filled with false hope when he comes across a little girl who picks up a teddy bear. Unfortunately, this is just the first infected child he has to put out of its misery.

#5 – She’s Drunk! : “Shaun of the Dead” (2004)

Ever wonder what would happen if the world’s most dimwitted men encountered a zombie in their backyard? Well wonder no more! The result is this hilarious scene in which they flick things at her head, have some laughs and take a memento snapshot. After accidentally impaling her and learning the truth, they reveal just how unprepared they are for the apocalypse. Seriously, who uses a zombie attack as motivation to sort records?

#4 – Choke on ‘Em!: “Day of the Dead” (1985)

Let’s see what’s behind door number two! In this classic Romero zombie flick, the soldier with the attitude, Captain Rhodes, is the dude to hate – even more than the zombies! In fact, were pretty happy to see this son-of-a-gun meet his fate. Nowhere else have you seen someone get shot by a domesticated zombie and ripped in half, while cursing until the very end! Gruesome!

#3 – Bill Murray Goes Incognito: “Zombieland” (2009)

Okay, technically the undead aren’t actually involved in this scene, but this has got to be one of the greatest and most unexpected zombie moments of all time! When survivors take refuge in Bill Murray’s mansion, he appears zombified. In truth, it turns out that he’s learned a few makeup tricks which have allowed him to roam outside and maintain a social life. Unfortunately, he takes the prank a little too far…

#2 – Shooting Celebs: “Dawn of the Dead” (2004)

People need to be entertained, especially when the world has come to an end. Luckily, these survivors create the perfect new game! One scribbles down the name of a celebrity, and the other locates its look-a-like in a massive horde and guns it down. Their targets include such zombie look-a-likes as Jay Leno and Burt Reynolds. We’ll have to keep this in mind when the end of the apocalypse does arrive – looks fun!

#1 – The Ghouls That Dance Right: “Michael Jackson’s Thriller” (1983)

Taking the top spot on our list is the moment when Michael Jackson and his iconic red jacket made zombification hip! If getting infected means having this much rhythm, we might just be tempted enough to let ourselves get bitten! As if King of Pop wasn’t scary enough…
