7 Things You Should Know About Resistance 3
Earth is completely over-run by aliens, and survivors like you are all that’s left of the human race! Welcome to WatchMojo.com, and today we’ll be filling you in on everything you should know about Resistance 3.
This popular video game franchise by Insomniac Games takes place in an alternate version of the 1950s. Here, mankind is locked in a desperate struggle to defeat malicious alien invaders, called the Chimera.
In previous installments of the franchise, the story was centered on soldier Nathan Hale. This character had survived an alien virus that was meant to kill him, but instead it unintentionally made him stronger and gave him alien abilities.
Using these powers to take out the enemy, he joined an elite force of similarly enhanced soldiers. Unfortunately, he was eventually corrupted by the alien virus, and was put down by his teammate Joseph Capelli.
Due to the fate of the franchise’s previous hero, the third chapter follows his comrade in arms, Joseph Capelli. This powerful soldier has overcome his previous emotionally instabilities, following his discharge from the military, and has even started a family.
The game takes place four years after the events of the last game, in 1957. The Chimera have become the dominant race on the planet, as ninety percent of the human race has been wiped out. Faced with a staggering lack of resources, the survivors have turned to cannibalism in order to survive.
Capelli takes refuge in an underground outpost in Haven, Oklahoma, and is tasked with destroying a wormhole in New York City. Its destruction is humanity’s last chance to cripple the alien’s invasion efforts.
Resistance 3 is largely similar to the previous game, but this installment differentiates itself by eliminating the use of regenerative health. While it might seem like a step backwards, this is counterbalanced by the fact that your character is much harder to kill, and sports improved agility. This includes the ability to climb over walls and into windows.
This helps players navigate the game’s open level design on their own terms, rather than getting forced in a single direction. And like before, you’ll be able to team up with a friend online or in split-screen to play through the game’s story mode.
During your terrifying and action-packed road trip from Oklahoma to New York City, the game offers an added sense of realism. This is accomplished through improved graphics and impressive weather effects. The game removes the old use of static weather, so now players will encounter random climate conditions while on their journey.
Plus, there are also be new environmental objects to use and avoid. These include alien plants, which explode when shot.
Resistance 3 retains similar combat mechanics as the previous instalment, and brings back the weapon wheel from the first game, “Fall of Man.”
Picking up on the survival theme of the series, you will acquire and upgrade your weapons from whatever scraps you can gather together. These incorporate a mix of old and new armaments.
Old favourites include the Magnum, while new firearms include the Mutator which fires a biological spray that causes enemies to explode, as well as the Shrapnel grenade, which is built from food cans and nails.
The game offers robust and competitive 16-player matches, and players can engage in a variety of combat and objective-based modes. These include Team-Deathmatch, Chain Reaction, Breach and Capture the Flag.
These battles take place across maps from around the world, such as Fort in Chad, a Columbia train yard, and a UK seaside.
Adding to the thrill of battle is Resistance 3’s customizable progression system. This allows players to spend points they earn to unlock customized weapon load-outs as well as new combat attributes.
While online multiplayer guarantees fun, Resistance 3 is the first PlayStation title to require the use of an online pass. This means only customers who buy the game new will have access to the online component, without having to purchase access separately.
Available exclusively for the PlayStation 3, Resistance 3 promises to not only deliver one of the best first-person shooter experiences on the console, but also one that is stereoscopic 3D and Move compatible.
