Continuing the focus on cover-based shooting, Uncharted 3 brings several upgrades and improvements over previous installments. Among them is the game’s new advanced melee combat system. This allows Drake to face off against multiple enemies at once, subdue them while jumping from elevated positions and use of items from his surroundings as melee weapons.

From Drake’s signature .45 Defendor, sawed-off twin-barrel “Pistole”, and AK-47, to Sully’s use of his signature Wes-44, Uncharted 3’s weapons and combat builds on what fans love and expect. The most notable of the new weapon additions is the sawed off shotgun. However players will also be able to fire a variety of other guns, including the Dragon Sniper, M32-Hammer grenade launcher, Pak-80 long gun, and devastating gun turrets. Best of all, players can now automatically pick up ammo without having to break up the action.

Expanding upon the offerings of the previous game, Uncharted 3 features larger and more refined cooperative and competitive play modes. These include bigger and more dynamic maps, as well as “Medal Kickbacks.” These offer temporary player and weapon enhancements and are activated once a player earns a set number of medals. These abilities range from speed boosts to short-term invulnerability, and even the ability to change the positions of all players on the map. As expected, Boosters are back, once again allowing you to purchase special skills, such as the option to carry more ammo or drop live grenades upon death. New to the franchise is the exciting addition of Three Team Deathmatch and Eight-Player Free For All. Other online multiplayer options consist of the Hunter, Adventure and Arena Modes. The first pits a team of heroes against a team of villains out to disrupt their treasure collecting while the timer counts down. Adventure on the other hand is similar to Uncharted 2’s Objective Mode. Here, up to three players must complete objectives, while fighting AI opponents. Finally, Arena combines three of the old gameplay options into one, while giving players an objective at the onset of the match. These range from survival against waves of enemies, to Gold Rush which requires you to bring treasure back to base, and Siege, which is all about capturing territories.

Maximizing the processing power of the PS3, Uncharted 3 is a game bursting with detail and cinematic flare. It uses every gig of blu-ray disk space, upping the level and detail, allowing for a whole-new dynamic processing system and exciting new artificial intelligence system.
