10 Theories About The Witcher 4
10 Theories About The Witcher 4
Welcome to MojoPlays, and HOOOO BOY, am I excited for The Witcher 4. Goddamn, is it gonna be good. And goddamn, am I speculating what on earth is going to happen with the damn thing... Sorry for all the "damns." Anyway, these are 10 Theories About The Witcher 4. I’ve had a lot of coffee today, LET’S GO!
The Coins Mean Something
I hate referencing Reddit, but sometimes there’s no better place for speculation. Reddit’s r/Witcher community recently went full detective over a cryptic teaser showing… a bundle of coins. Yes, coins. Fans are convinced this mysterious change purse holds the key to The Witcher 4’s story. Theories are flying faster than Geralt’s sword: one Redditor claims it ties to the “Curse of the Black Sun,” another insists it’s “a defier’s oren,” and yet another says it looks like the portal Ciri jumped through in The Witcher 3. Bonus points: some think the runes are ancient futhark, hinting at Icelandic or Scandinavian lore, even though the series is rooted in Polish mythology. One ring to rule them all? No! One coin, endless nerd debates.
The Significance of The Bauk
The Bauk is the latest monster teased in The Witcher 4 trailer, and it’s more than just a beefy boss to whack with a sword. Inspired by Slavic folklore and built with lessons from making the Chimera in Cyberpunk 2077, game director Sebastian Kalemba told IGN it could shape the story of a mission. What sets it apart? The Bauk messes with fear and trauma, playing mind games with its victim's psyche mid-fight. So it’s not just brawn and cool graphics; these monsters tell stories, making battles as much about emotional whiplash as sword swings. Basically, it’s therapy… with fangs.
The Trial Can Be Done by Adults
Ciri’s transformation into a full Witcher in The Witcher 4 trailer shakes up what fans thought they knew. Normally, the Trial of the Grasses is a brutal, often deadly ordeal for kids, but the trailer hints Ciri undergoes it as an adult. If so, maybe this opens the door for the Witcher order to recruit more women… and, you know, grown-ups who are tired of babysitting monsters. Gameplay-wise, an adult Trial could mean Ciri unlocks powers other Witchers can’t touch. It’s only one trailer, but it’s packed with hints, and CD Projekt Red promises not to repeat past mistakes. Adult Witcher Ciri: coming soon.
New Witcher School
A School of the Lynx? Yep, that brief glimpse of a lynx medallion in The Witcher 4 trailer hints at a brand-new Witcher School, apparently founded by Ciri herself. Unlike the traditional schools with their strict training, the School of the Lynx would reflect Ciri’s own experiences. That means she’s probably training a new generation of Witchers and maybe teaching them that monster hunting doesn’t have to be all grim potions and brooding stares. A more flexible, inclusive, and morally complicated approach to slaying beasts? Sounds like Ciri’s running Witcher Hogwarts now. Robes optional, swords mandatory.
Ciri Has Different Morals
Ciri isn’t just a Witcher-for-hire; she’s a hero with a conscience. In The Witcher 4, her path will likely differ from Geralt’s “slay monsters, collect coin” approach. The trailer shows her helping others for no reward, which is basically the opposite of Geralt’s business model. Her idealism might seem naive in the brutal Witcher world, but it sets up a story full of tough moral choices. Ciri is the Witcher equivalent of that one friend who insists on returning a lost wallet... while you’re whispering, "But what if there's money in there?"
Alchemy & Potions Will Work Differently
The Witcher 4 trailer hints that potions and alchemy are still front and center, which is no surprise. Players might get deeper into brewing and experimenting to see just how much a vial of suspicious liquid can change Ciri. Unlike Geralt, she didn’t undergo the Trial of the Grasses as a kid, so potions might hit her with unexpected side effects—think “boosted senses” or “temporary paranoia.” Making alchemy a requirement instead of an option would also give the game so much more customization!
Falka’s Lineage
There is a much-beloved fan theory about the connection between Ciri and the rarely mentioned Falka. Falka led a notorious rebellion and is considered the greatest criminal who ever lived in Witcher lore; she also killed a lot of her family and was eventually burned at the stake. During this burning, Falka cursed all the people present, promising that they and their descendants would suffer at the hands of a child bearing her blood. We’d have to do a lot of historical unpacking here. A baby, birthed by a deranged woman, ended up in Falka’s care. That baby is Ciri's ancestor. However, the coincidence of Falka giving birth at the same time suggests this baby could have actually been Falka's own child. If this is the case, is The Witcher 4 the time when the child bearing her blood finally makes those cursed descendants pay? Ciri. It’s definitely Ciri, you guys. Let’s stop being objective.
New Antagonist
There is no confirmed antagonist for The Witcher 4, as the game is still in early development, but fans and rumors suggest possible villains. One is Leo Bonhart, a powerful hunter from the books. Leo is one of the most brutal villains in The Witcher book series; he’s a mercenary, bounty hunter, and professional psychopath who takes a disturbing amount of pleasure in killing Witchers. Other suggestions based on the books include the timeless and malevolent Gaunter O'Dimm. But with the game being its own product, players also theorize about a new threat, possibly linked to Ciri's powers.
Geralt Isn’t Done
We know that Geralt isn’t the protagonist, but The Witcher 4 doesn’t necessarily have to go the way of The Last of Us Part II. You can’t keep a good Witcher down that easily. Interestingly, The Game Awards trailer ends with Geralt’s voice saying, “Time for a new saga,” while the official Witcher channel’s version quietly leaves that out—classic CD Projekt Red misdirection. Maybe Geralt has retired to sip potions like cocktails, or maybe he’s lurking in the shadows as Ciri’s mentor. Still, his total absence would leave a wolf-sized hole in the story. After all, what’s The Witcher without its original, grizzled hero?
Ciri is a Different Kind of Witcher
The Witcher 4 trailer confirms that Ciri’s magical glow-up just got even more complicated. She's gone full Witcher, which is wild considering she’s the first woman (and someone with Elder Blood, no less) to survive the process. That’s like passing Witcher boot camp while having built-in magic Wi-Fi. But here’s the kicker: the trailer shows her using Witcher signs and chugging potions like a pro, yet not a hint of her signature Elder Blood powers. So, what gives? Did the mutations nerf her time-hopping skills? Did the Trial turn her magical GPS off? Or, plot twist, did it supercharge her abilities into something entirely new? Either way, I’m excited to find out.
