It felt like Sierra simply made an extended version of a typical FMV game filled with cheesy voice acting, an even cheesier story complete with controversial cutscenes, and lackluster gameplay. It's even more disappointing considering the game released the same year after Gabriel Knight 2, which bucked the typical tropes of FMV titles in comparison

Despite releasing two years after The 7th Guest, critics felt the game didn't do anything new to freshen up the series and felt the gameplay was dated compared to other adventure games.
