So much television, so little timeâ¦
Let’s help plan your weekend by looking at the most binge-able new content thatâs popping up on streaming services.
“Safe”
Netflix
“Safe,” created by prolific crime novel writer Harlan Coben, is a thriller starring Michael C. Hall, doing a British accent. Oh, you wanted MORE? Alright, well, it’s pretty good! We’ve had a wave of police procedurals this year, but set in England, this taut crime drama follows Dr. Tom Delaney, whose wife recently passed away. She made Hall promise to keep their daughters ‘safe’, so when one of them goes missing, Hall doesn’t leave anything up to the authorities and goes out looking for her, . . .all the while uncovering dark secrets. With 8 well-paced episodes, the series moves quickly, and you’ll want to stay with it until the end because, without wanting to spoil anything, it’s well worth it.
“Ali Wong: Hard Knock Wife”
Netflix
Wong’s 2016 Netflix special “Baby Cobra” was a masterpiece of stand-up, and brought Ali Wong’s signature bawdy comedy and misdirection into the spotlight, making Wong a household name in the comedy scene. Her recent special “Hard Knock Wife” does not disappoint, and its clear that Ali has really settled in to her raunchy persona. Wong is, clearly, very pregnant during the show, and while she does discuss everything from motherhood to lactation, she does so without bringing up her pregnancy at all. Seriously (which Wong never is), we can’t recommend this special enough.
“13 Reasons Why” Season 2
Netflix
The first season of this provocative show took the world by storm when it was first released in 2017. Based on the 2007 novel of the same name, this Netflix original is equal parts horrifying and addictive. Just when you thought Hannah Baker was done getting revenge on her classmates for events that ultimately led to her suicide, sheâs back with a vengeance, this time with more dirty secrets to expose. And if the first season was any indication, thatâs something the students Liberty High definitely donât want. With authentic characters and a gripping story that will have you on the edge of your seat from beginning to end, this show is anything but a slow burn: bingeing is the only way to watch it.
