Do you know about the Great Gum War?
After ten seasons and almost 300 episodes, Adventure Time is coming to a close with a four-part series finale. Expected to clock in at 44 minutes, the final episodes will be titled Come Along With Me, which is also the title of the show’s ending theme. Cartoon Network has released a teaser for the finale, which is being appropriately promoted as The Ultimate Adventure.
In the teaser, we can see Princess Bubblegum leading an army of Banana Guards along with Lemongrab and Slime Princess, who all appear to be marching towards an epic battle with the villainous Gumbald. In the previous episode, Gumbaldia, Gumbald announced that he was assembling a legion of Candy Kingdom haters, including Ricardio, Bandit Princess, Peace Master, Me-Mow, Samantha, Pete Sassafras, Ash, Sir Slicer, Scorcher, Fern, and a confused Ice King. The trailer also of course features Finn the Human and Jake the Dog, who refuse to leave Princess Bubblegum’s side. Also in attendance are Marceline the Vampire Queen, Lumpy Space Princess, Lady Rainicorn, Flame Princess, and Huntress Wizard.
Since premiering in 2010, Pendleton Ward’s creation has exploded into a cultural phenomenon and arguably ushered in a new golden age of cartoons. Had it not been for the show’s success and impact, it’s possible that we wouldn’t have gotten Steven Universe, Gravity Falls, or Star vs. the Forces of Evil. With the ending on the horizon, this truly feels like the end of an era for Cartoon Network, especially considering that Regular Show also wrapped up back in 2017.
Cartoon Network has yet to announce an official release date for the final episodes, although the Adventure Time Wiki suggests that they’ll air in June 2018. A bonus special modeled after Minecraft entitled Diamonds and Lemons is also expected to air this summer. Until then, grab your friends and get ready to have your hair blown back.
