Top 3 Explosive Details About Transformers Reboot

For almost a decade, there seemed to be a mentality in Hollywood that not matter how poorly-received a Transformers movie is, it’ll still gross a billion dollars. Audiences finally started to get tired of Michael Bay’s blockbuster film franchise, though, with last year’s Transformers: The Last Knight. The fifth entry in the series was critically panned and received several Razzie nominations, which isn’t surprising. What is surprising is that the film only made just over $130 million at the domestic box office. While The Last Knight performed better worldwide, bringing its total gross to just over $600 million, it was still a record low for the franchise, excluding the animated Transformers: The Movie from 1986.

Now that Bay is exiting the director’s chair, reports have been circulating that a Transformers reboot is in the works. This news comes from Toy Fair 2018 Hasbro Investor Preview via TFW2005. While nothing is set in stone yet, here are three EXPLOSIVE details you need to know:

3. Bumblebee: The Movie Is Still Happening

While the franchise might be getting rebooted, the Bumblebee spinoff is still set to hit theaters on December 21, 2018. Bay will remain a producer, but Travis Knight of Kubo and the Two Strings takes over directorial duties with a cast that includes Hailee Steinfeld and John Cena. The story takes place twenty years before the original film in 1987, meaning the continuity of this franchise will probably only become more inconsistent.

2. Transformers 6 Is Getting Scrapped

In addition to Bumblebee: The Movie, there were also plans for Transformers 6, which would act as a follow-up to The Last Knight with a 2019 release date. The proposed sixth film has reportedly been dropped from the Hasbro-Paramount movie slate, however, leading insiders to believe that the sequel was cancelled. As of now, no other live-action Transformers movies appear to be lined up through 2021.

1. Hasbro Taking Control

Moving forward, Paramount Pictures will reportedly give Hasbro more control over all future live-action Transformers movies. In addition to a potential Transformers reboot, several other films based on Hasbro properties are currently in the works, including Dungeons & Dragons, Micronauts, and a G.I. Joe reboot. Huh, maybe they’re planning a Hasbro Cinematic Universe… actually, that could be pretty awesome!
